Depauw Baseball DEPAUW BASEBALL ALUMNI NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2013 Summer Ball Success Tiger baseball players perform well in prestigious Prospect League during Summer 2013 During the Summer of 2013, Tiger baseball players continued their recent success in the Prospect League, one of the more prestigious collegiate summer baseball leagues in the country. Following in the footsteps of © DePauw alumni Rob McPike, Elliott Ross, and Hobs Donovan (all Prospect League All-Stars), the Tigers had Tigers in the four current players in the league this season, each seeing Prospect League a great deal of success. Senior outfielder, Robbie Stein hit Michael Chiaro – Slippery Rock Sliders, his way to the top ten in three of the league’s offensive Richmond River Rats (2012-2013) Jack Peck – Chillicothe Paints (2012-2013) categories, and was named to the Prospect League All- Dylan Sheldon – Richmond River Rats (2012) Star Team, representing the East Division. Elliott Ross – Richmond River Rats (2011) Andy Manson – Richmond River Rats (2011) Lewis & Clark Baseball League p.4 Robbie Stein – Richmond River Rats (2013) Player Profiles Player Profile: Robbie Stein This year, the DePauw Tigers will be led onto the field by senior captain, Robbie Stein. Stein will look for a successful finish to his collegiate career this season by remaining one of the Tigers’ biggest offensive threats. Hitting in the top third of the batting order, Stein has been a consistant force for the Tigers since arriving on campus his freshman year. Stein posted a .317 batting average while also contributing to the Tigers’ power numbers, providing three triples and ten doubles. His defensive skills have also improved throughout his career, adding better range, quick reactions, and a stronger arm to his overall skill set. This year, Stein will likely be moving from leftfield to centerfield in order to shore up the Tiger defense. A leader by example, the 2014 Tigers Robbie Stein will look to their centerfielder to help them improve on last year’s disappointing season, and lead them to a return trip to the NCAA Senior tournament. Why did you choose DePauw? Outfielder “After going on many college visits across the Midwest it was clear that DePauw was the perfect fit for me. I loved the small Hometown: classroom sizes giving me the capability of knowing my Fishers, IN professors and classmates on a personal level, creating a better learning environment. I also chose DePauw for the liberal arts education which truly has turned me into a complete person 2014 Team Captain allowing me to take classes in all different subjects and enhancing my writing and speaking abilities. At 3:30 in the morning our captain’s phone in the top ten in batting finally rang and we had made it to the Regional Tournament. We average (.303) in 2013. all went nuts and immediately starting preparing ourselves for the opportunity of a lifetime, to compete for a national championship. 2012 NCAA Central Favorite Winter Term Experience: Regional All-Tournament Team “My favorite winter term experience came my junior year at DePauw. I was fortunate enough to be able to go to Cozumel, Mexico for two weeks and scuba dive everyday while staying in a 2012 NCAC All- beach side resort. It was one of the greatest experiences in my Conference Team life and I am so happy that DePauw gave me the opportunity to do such a thing.” .324 batting average, 27 Post-Graduate plans: doubles, 10 triples, 3 homeruns, 70 RBI, and 70 “My post-graduate plans are still up in the air. I would like to go runs scored in last three into some sort of marketing, hopefully sports marketing, in the Indianapolis or Chicago area and eventually become a high seasons school baseball coach.” 2 Tigers Send Four to Lewis & Clark Baseball League All-Star Game Five Tiger baseball players saw a great deal of success this summer in the Lewis & Clark Baseball League, a collegiate summer league based in St. Louis, Missouri.
