(Teaching schools were known as “normal schools” because their purpose was to instruct the stu- dents, future teachers, in properly understanding and instilling the societal norms at the time. Many state schools began as normal schools, like UCLA, which was originally named the Los Angeles California State Normal School.) Normal is the home of the Normal Cornbelters, a member of the from 2010-2018 and now a member of the , playing their home games at The Corn Crib.
