o The Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project entered the Guinness Book record in terms of using the highest volume of concrete in a given day. o The 18th edition of the 'Swami Haridas Tansen Sangeet Nritya Mahotsav' was held in New Delhi on 10 January 2019.  National Affairs - II (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o India’s longest single lane steel cable suspension bridge was inaugurated over River Siang in Arunachal Pradesh. o The government of India will launch an airboat service from Varanasi to Prayagraj for the Kumbh Mela from 26 January 2019. o NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) released the 'Atal Tinkering Lab Handbook – Nayee Dishayen, Naye Nirman, Naya Bharat' on 11 January 2019.  National Affairs - I (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o The fourth edition of the Raisina Dialogue began in New Delhi on 8 January 2019. o Airports Authority of India (AAI) imposed a ban on single-use plastic items at its 129 airports across the country. o The North Central Railway (NCR) launched 'Rail Kumbh Seva Mobile App' to help people navigate through Prayagraj city during Kumbh Mela starting from 15 January 2019.  Committees & Recommendations (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o On 8 January 2019, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) constituted a high- level committee, headed by Nandan Nilekani, that will work towards deepening digital payments in India. o The Security and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) constituted a 'Research Advisory' committee which will assist in formulating policy for capital markets and it will be headed by Dr. Sankar De.  Sports News - II (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o The second edition of Khelo India Youth Games was inaugurated in Pune on 9 January 2019. o On 9 January 2019, International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that USA Cricket became its 105th member. o The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that Egypt will host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.  Sports News - I (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o Switzerland's Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic won the 2019 Hopman Cup. o Rohan Bopanna's and Divij Sharan won the ATP tour Tennis title at the Tata Open Maharashtra in Pune on 5 January 2019. o Sydney will host the finals of inaugural 24-team ATP Cup men’s tennis tournament. 2 | P a g e

o The 86th National Billiards and Snooker Championship will be held in Indore from 18 January 2019.  Days and Events (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o World Hindi Day is observed every year on 10 January. o Odisha will host the two-day International Dam Safety conference starting from 13 February 2019. o Indian Paint Conference was inaugurated in Agra on 11 January 2019. o The Partnership Summit 2019 will be inaugurated in Mumbai on 12 January 2019. o National Youth Day is observed every year on 12 January.  MoUs and Agreements (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o On 08 January 2019, MoU was signed between the Indian Army and Punjab National Bank (PNB) on the Defence Salary Package. o An agreement for Renukaji Dam Multipurpose Project was signed among Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand. o On 10 January 2019, the Union Cabinet approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Maritime issues between India & Denmark.  International News (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o Sheikh Hasina took oath as Prime Minister of Bangladesh on 7 January 2019. o Malaysia's King Muhammad V has abdicated after two years on the throne on 6 January 2019. o Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen appointed Su Tseng-chang as Prime Minister of Taiwan on 10 January 2019. o US President Donald Trump appointed Charles Kupperman as Deputy National Security Advisor (NSA) on 11 January 2019.  Business and Economy - II (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o As per the Central Statistic Office, the Indian economy is expected to grow at 7.2% in 2018-19 due to improvement in the performance of agriculture and manufacturing sectors. o On 8 January 2019, India allowed Iran's Pasargad Bank to open a branch in Mumbai. o The RBI allowed the card payment providers to offer 'tokenisation' services to ensure the safety of the digital transaction.  Business and Economy - I (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o As per the Ministry of Finance, revenue from direct tax grew by 13.6% to Rs 7.43 lakh crore in the first nine months of the current financial year 2018-19 (April-March). o Gruh Finance, housing finance arm of HDFC, will be merged with Bandhan Bank. 3 | P a g e

o The RBI deferred the implementation of the last tranche of Capital Conservation Buffer (CCB) from 31 March 2019 to 31 March 2020.  Indexes and Reports (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o The World Bank’s Global Economic Prospects (GEP) report was released on 9 January 2019. o The report titled 'Future of Consumption in Fast-Growth Consumer Market - India' was released by World Economic Forum on 9 January 2019. o The 2018 'Global Report on Trafficking in Persons' was released by the UN Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC).  Govt Policies & Schemes - II (7 -12 Jan 2019) o The government of India launched the 'National Clean Air Programme' (NCAP) on 10 January 2019. o The Union Cabinet gave approval for the establishment of three new AIIMS at Samba in Jammu, Pulwama in Kashmir and Rajkot in Gujarat. o The government of Odisha launched the 'Ama Ghare LED' scheme on 11 January 2019.  Govt Policies & Schemes - I (7 -12 Jan 2019) o Odisha's Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced interest-free loans of up to Rs. 3 lakh for Women Self-Help Groups (WSHGs) in the state. o The Union Cabinet approved a 10% reservation for 'economically backward' upper castes in government jobs. o The Ministry of Women and Child Development launched an online campaign, ' #www: Web- WonderWomen' on 9 January 2019.  Awards and Honours - II (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o Union Minister for Women & Child Development, Maneka Gandhi conferred National Awards to 97 Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) for their Exceptional Achievements on 7 January 2019. o Liverpool's Mohamed Salah was named 2018 Confederation of African Football's (Caf) 'Player of the Year'.  Awards and Honours - I (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o Industrialist and Godrej Group Chairman Adi Godrej was conferred with the ICSIs Lifetime Achievement Award for 'Translating Excellence in Corporate Governance into Reality' on 10 January 2019. o The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) pavilion received 'Exhibitor of the Year Award' at 106th Indian Science Congress (ISC) held at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab.  Appointments - II (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o Pranav R Mehta was appointed as the President of Global Solar Council (GSC) from 1 January 2019. o UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed Jan Kubis as the new UN special coordinator in Lebanon. 4 | P a g e

o Birendra Prasad Baishya was named as Chef de Mission for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. o Jaideep Govind was appointed as Secretary-General of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).  Appointments - I (7 - 12 Jan 2019) o Kumar Rajesh Chandra was appointed as the Director General of the (SSB). o Kristalina Georgieva, World Bank CEO, was appointed as interim President of World Bank from 1 February 2019. o Gita Gopinath has joined International Monetary Fund (IMF) as its Chief Economist on 7 January 2019. o N. Ram was appointed as the President of the 'Alliance for Media Freedom' (AFMF).
