19 KENW-TV Celebrates 40 Years, 1974 —2014 On September 1st, 1974, KENW-TV, Public Television for Eastern New Mexico and West Texas went on the air as Channel 3. The Portales News Tribune announced, “Public television, as almost everybody knows by now, is coming to Portales, and to use the contemporary parlance, PBS – the Public Broadcasting System – is a mind blower.”

Now, 40 years later, KENW-TV is still on the air and we’re celebrating our 40th Anniversary. Our celebration will begin with an Open House and Reception to be held Saturday, September 27th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Broadcast Center on the campus of Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. This event coincides with the University’s 80th Anniversary Homecoming, and it will be a time to remember the students and staff who have passed through the Broadcast Center over the years. We look forward to showcasing our new state–of–the– art broadcast facility by offering tours of the facility to everyone.

You, your family, and friends are cordially invited to join us for our 40th Anniversary celebration. The Reception will be held in Studio “A” of the Broadcast Center, located at 1450 S. Ave. N in Portales. There will be delicious birthday cake, cold and hot beverages, a nostalgic display of memorabilia, and lots of “I remember whens…”. We hope you will join us and share some of your

own special recollections, as well.
