This study included only one flowering season in only a small part of the plant's range. In order to more accurately elucidate the insect-plant interrelationship much more work is needed throughout Proboscidea louisianica's range. I wish to thank Dr. Ronald J. HEARN Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona 85721, USA ([email protected]) ABSTRACT To understand evolutionary patterns and processes that account for anatomical diversity in relation to ecology and life form diversity, anatomy of storage roots and stems of the genus Adenia (Passifloraceae) were analyzed using an explicit phylogenetic context. Over 65,000 measurements are reported for 47 quantitative and qualitative traits from 58 species in the genus. Vestiges of lianous ancestry were apparent throughout the group, as treelets and lianous taxa alike share relatively short, often wide, vessel elements with simple, transverse perforation plates, and alternate lateral wall pitting; fibriform vessel elements, tracheids associated with vessels, and libriform fibers as additional tracheary elements; and well-developed axial parenchyma. Multiple cambial variants were observed, including anomalous parenchyma proliferation, anomalous vascular strands, successive cambia, and a novel type of intraxylary phloem. -

(stinking passion flower) is an exotic medicinal vine. The antibacterial properties of leaf and fruit (ethanol and acetone) extracts were screened against four human pathogenic bacteria i.e. Pseudomonas putida, Vibrio cholerae, Shigella flexneri and Streptococcus pyogenes by well-in agar method. The results showed the leaf extract having remarkable activity against all bacterial pathogens compared to fruits. This study supports, the traditional medicines (herbal extracts) to cure many diseases like diarrhea, intestinal tract, throat, ear infections, fever and skin diseases. The biological spectrum and diaspores dispersal syndromes of the species recorded in a stretch of vegetation in a semi-arid region within the Cariri Environment Protection Area, Boa Vista, Paraíba State (northeast) Brazil, are described. Collections were made from fertile specimens, preferentially bearing fruit, over a 15-month period. Life forms and syndromes were determined by field observations using specialized literature. One hundred and sixty-six species, distributed into 123 genera and 41 families, were reported. -

INTERIM RECOVERY PLAN NO. 383 Monsoon vine thickets on the coastal sand dunes of the Dampier Peninsula 2018 – 2023 February 2018 1 Foreword Interim Recovery Plans (IRPs) are developed within the framework laid down in Department of Parks and Wildlife (now Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions) Corporate Policy Statement No. 35 (DPaW 2015a) and Corporate Guideline No. 35 (DPaW 2015b). Corporate Policy Statement No. 35 states that the department will prepare recovery plans or conservation advices that document the conservation requirements, recovery or management actions and information requirements of threatened species and ecological communities (TECs), identify threatening processes impacting threatened species or TECs, and implement programs to mitigate the threats. Interim recovery plans outline the recovery actions that are required to urgently address those threatening processes most affecting the ongoing survival of threatened species or ecological communities, and begin the recovery process. While the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) is committed to ensuring that threatened ecological communities are conserved through the preparation and implementation of Recovery Plans (RPs) or IRPs, there is no statutory requirement to implement recovery actions identified in this plan. This plan identifies responsibilities for specific actions and largely refers to the department initiating and guiding actions. However, the implementation of recovery actions by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions or any other organisation will be done within the context of regional and statewide priorities and technical and resource capacity. The provision of funds identified in this plan is dependent on budgetary and other constraints affecting the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, as well as the need to address other priorities. -

(Martyniaceae) is reported as a new alien species for the flora of Turkey. A plant species with different and interesting fruits was photographed in 2016. During a field investigation, a population of P. louisianica consisting of ca. 25 individuals was found at roadside between Biga and Karabiga town, district of Çanakkale, and plant specimens with flowers were collected in 2017. After detailed literature studies, this species was identified as Proboscidea louisianica. The family Martyniaceae is represented by just 1 genus with 1 taxa (Ibicella lutea (Lindl.) Van Eselt.) in Turkey and no member of the genus Proboscidea has been recorded before. In this paper, the species was introduced with taxonomical and morphological features. Çanakkale, Biga-Karabiga arası yol kenarında yaklaşık 25 adet bitkiden oluşan populasyondan 2016 yılında genç meyveli, çiçek taşımayan bireylerden fotoğraflar çekilerek kayıt alınmıştır. 2017 yılında çiçeklenme dönemi olan Ağustos ve Eylül aylarında tekrar arazi çalışması yapılarak hem bitki örnekleri alınmış hem de detaylı populasyon bilgileri kaydedilmiştir. -
