IDAHO COACH (1-11 at Idaho, career 1-11): Akey came to Idaho in December 2007 after spending the past eight seasons as an assistant coach at Washington State University. Akey is a 1988 graduate of Weber State University, which his where his coaching career was launched with an assistantship that ultimately included time as a defensive line coach, special teams coach and recruiting coor- dinator. In 1995, he was hired as linebackers coach and special teams coordinator at Northern Arizona, He worked his way up to defensive coordinator and served in that capacity from 1996-98 before joining the Washington State University staff. ARIZONA COACH MIKE STOOPS (17-29 at Arizona, 17-29 career): Stoops is a 1986 graduate of the University of Iowa. He went from student-athlete to graduate to volunteer assistant in spending the next four seasons at Iowa before taking the defensive ends post at Kansas State in 1992. He was at Kansas State through the 1998 season where he also spent time as co-defensive coordinator, defensive backs coach and assistant head coach. From Kansas State, he went to Oklahoma for five seasons as the associate head coach, defensive coordinator, defensive backs coach. He assumed control the the Arizona program in 2004. CAPTAINS Senior center Adam Korby (Poudre, Colo.), junior safety (Everett, Wash.) and senior Eddie Williams (San Mateo, Calif.) were voted by their teammates as captains for the 2008 season. Korby, on the Rimington Watch list for the third successive season and a repeat as offensive captain, started 35 consecu- tive games prior to the Vandals’ opening-game kickoff at Arizona. He’s a three-time winner if Idaho’s Wayne Walker Ironman Award. He was a 2007 second-team all-WAC choice as well as honorable mention on Phil Steele’s 2007 all-WAC team. Keo, the Vandal’s defensive captain, is in his third season as a starter and is coming off a season during which he was an all-WAC choice at safety and as a punt returner and earned Idaho’s Award as the Vandals’ most valuable player. In 2007, he also was a Rivals.com all-WAC punter returner and was recognized on Phil Steele’s all-WAC second team as a safety and punt returner. He set an all-time Idaho punt returner record with a 100-yarder against Northern Illinois. Williams, who plays an integral role on the Vandal offense as a tight end/H-back, also was chosen the captain for Idaho’s special teams. Williams is a three-year letterman who played as a true freshman in 2005. He has 46 career receptions for 518 yards. He has scored five touchdowns as a receiver and three as a runner.
