(TORONTO — August 30, 2017) The Dominican Republic has had quite the summer for tourism and now, as the fall season approaches, there are no signs of slowing down. In July 2017, the Dominican Republic saw an annual increase of 3.6 per cent North American visitors, with 71,505 more visitors than the previous year. Leading this group was Canada with 43,587 additional tourist arrivals as well as 27,646 from the US And 272 more, from Mexico. In the past 10 years alone, the DR has added 10,000 hotel rooms to accommodate the steadily increasing tourism demand. With over 75,000 hotel rooms spanning this diverse Caribbean paradise, and more developments to look forward to, the influx of travellers are sure to be well accommodated. AGROTOURISM AGREEMENT WILL PROMOTE DOMINICAN FARMS AND HOTELS The new agrotourism pact between the Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD) and Dominican Hotel and Tourism Association (ASONAHORES) will promote agrotourism opportunities throughout the country and aims to benefit both local farms and hotels. www.godominicanrepublic.com TOURISM SEES A 5.9 PER CENT INCREASE IN FIRST HALF OF 2017 The DR recorded an annual increase of 5.9 per cent total tourists and 6.2 per cent air passengers from January to July 2017 compared to the same period in 2016. European travel to the DR grew by 21.3 per cent in the first two‑quarters, predominantly from Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Ukraine, and France. www.dr1.com Subscribe Past Issues THE DR ADDS MORE THAN 10,000 HOTEL ROOMS OVER THE DECADE Over the last 10 years, Dominican Republic has added more than 10,000 hotel rooms throughout the country to accommodate for increasing tourism demand. The adventure resort offers outdoor activities such as mountaineering, hiking, horseback riding and more. www.godominicanrepublic.com TWO PUNTA CANA HOTELS UNDERGO LUXURY RENOVATIONS The Dominican Republic continues to further its offerings as a luxury destination with plans for expansion and substantial renovations at two Punta Cana hotels. Tortuga Bay, part of Punta Cana Resort & Club, will close between July and November 2017 for a complete renovation to refresh each suite with an updated design and new technology. Starting January 18, 2018, Latam Airlines Brazil will also be offering flights from Sao Paulo, Brazil (GRU) to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ). www.dr1.com BOLIVIA TO PROVIDE FLIGHTS TO THE DR STARTING NOVEMBER 2017 Boliviana de Aviación (BoA) plans to provide flights to La Romana International Airport (LRM) in November 2017. Boliviana is interested in operating one or two trips a week, or more, depending on demand.
