REGULARS April 2019

10 Book Reviews from Borzoi Books This morning poured into the office for an hour or so - long enough to lift spirits and generate a positive burst of pre-print energy’. British Summer Time is waiting is in the wings, just an hour ahead, on 1st April.

14 Crossword Mothering Sunday poems - we received a number of poems to forward to our judges, who were delighted to read this unique collection of ‘HUG - style’ poems. They came back to us with thoughtful and experienced feedback and 17 & 19 Local Authority Information, Blood Donor two outstanding winners – see p16. Thank you to all our poets for sharing their Sessions, Community Notices ‘hugs’, and to our judges for their wise words.

For over a week the office has been busy with local election issues, mostly 18 Local Elections traffic and parking but I’m sure that other ‘highlights’ will spark a few lively conversations this month! Local elections take place every four years and often pass without much fuss, leaving the town or parish short of elected councillors 20 to fulfil the important role of councillors. Local councils have a variety of powers 22 & 23 Community and duties which impact directly on the community, including allotments, parks, burial grounds, memorials, bye-laws and boundaries, as well as working with Highways on roads, street lighting and parking, and with District on tourism and 23 Events diary planning. A number of these will be key to our communities over the next four years. Whether you stand as a candidate or not, you can be involved - by going along to council and/ or committee meetings. The work of council is mostly done 24-25 by the committees, passing issues to the full council for decisions, etc.. (NB. Our LOCAL BUSINESS DIRECTORY local councils are not political.)

It’s a delight to have Easter coming soon – family days out, catching up with 26-29 Events including Festivals, Exhibitions, friends after a long and tough winter, and some beautiful, meaningful church Concerts, Local Fundraising and Walks services. We may even have some ‘appropriate’ weather! Hmm, it might be time for a visit to the coast to find a fresh piece of seaweed to bring back and hang in the garden! 30 Local church services Whatever your plans are, the Cotswold Times team wish you a happy Easter.

What do the Lions do in Chipping Norton and the surrounding area?

With the support and help of our sponsors and supporters we give Electric ENABLING RECOVERY Mobility Scooters to medically deserving individuals and as the better weather and summer approaches we do need to hear of any of our AFTER DISASTER Scooters that are not being used. If this is the case please let us know and we will arrange for it to be collected. We then have it fully serviced ready to help someone else. The main concern with any Mobility Scooters is that they need to be used, with the batteries discharged down to the Red warning light or low segment on the gauge and then fully charged, not just topped up after every use. Develop a Backbone not a Wishbone

A Moreton resident recently wrote suggesting Cotswold Times includes more articles and information for the young people of the town. What a great idea! If there is a club or group, which involves activities for the teenagers of the town, we would love to hear from you.
