BIOGRAPHY OF STEPHEN CLARKE, HEAD OF COMMUNICATIONS, TERRACYCLE & LOOP EUROPE Stephen Clarke is the Head of Communications for TerraCycle and Loop Europe. His role is to oversee the communications strategy and PR teams for both TerraCycle Europe and Loop Europe. This involves the development and implementation of both reactive and pro-active media relations campaigns, promoting TerraCycle and Loop’s work and recycling / reuse initiatives. He also acts as the media spokesperson for both TerraCycle and Loop in the UK. He has worked for TerraCycle since 2011. About TerraCycle Europe TerraCycle is a global leader in the collection and repurposing of otherwise non- recyclable post-consumer and post-industrial waste. In 21 countries globally (including 12 in Europe), TerraCycle creates national platforms to recycle products and packaging that would otherwise end up in landfill or incineration, in collaboration with the world’s largest brands (e.g. BIC, JDE, L’Oréal, P&G etc) and retailers (e.g. Tesco, Carrefour). TerraCycle Europe, is pioneering a new waste management process across 12 European markets (UK, Republic of Ireland (ROI), France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Sweden and Denmark). This process involves manufacturers, retailers, governments and consumers, to create circular solutions for materials such as food packaging, personal care / beauty products and packagaing, laboratory waste, coffee capsules, cigarette waste and even beach plastics that otherwise have no other path to be recycled. About Loop In January 2019, TerraCycle, along with 25 top consumer products companies and retailers announced a new e-commerce shopping platform called Loop that will enable consumers to shop for some of their favorite brands in durable, reusable packaging. Loop launched in May 2019 in both Paris (see https://maboutiqueloop.fr/) where Carrefour is the official retail partner and also New York (see https://loopstore.com/). Loop is a key step in helping to end the epidemic of waste that is caused by 'single use' consumption. Loop is scheduled to launch in the UK in Q1 2020 where the retail partner will be Tesco. Career Background Stephen graduated with a BA (HONS) in Business Studies (specialising in Communications) from the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside in 1997. For the next 14 years he worked at and then ran the divisions of a number of London based PR agencies, across a wide range of industry sectors including consumer lifestyle, sports sponsorship and food, drink and nutrition. Stephen joined TerraCycle in April 2011 initially as the PR Manager for TerraCycle UK. Whilst always retaining a communications focus, his remit diversified somewhat over the years to include account management, business development and the overall management for firstly the UK and later the Northern Europe region (UK, ROI, Norway, Sweden and Denmark). In August 2017 he moved to his current TerraCycle role as Head of Communications for TerraCycle Europe, which is a wholly communications focused role in order to best utilise his 20+ years communications expertise. In 2019 he also started in a similar role for Loop Europe. .
