SEHU has preserved the insect specimens named by Professor Matsumura for a long time that includes insect specimens collected from Taiwan. Some of them are xylem-feeders, such as froghoppers and sharpshooters which can transmit xylem-limited bacteria (XLB). This article provides the checklist of Taiwan froghoppers and sharpshooters named by Professor Matsumura preserved in SEHU. The checklist contains 44 froghopper species and 4 sharpshooter species. This checklist could be a reference for studying the taxonomy of xylem-feeders in Taiwan. A total of 45 men and 41 women were consulted through open-ended interviews and their actions were observed in order to document the wisdom, beliefs, feelings, and behaviors related to the lantern-fly. People/s perceptions of the ex.temal shape of the insect influence its ethnotaxonomy, and they may categorize it into five different ethnosemantic domains, VilJagers a.re familiar with the habitat and food habits of the lantern- fly; they it lives on the trunk of Simarouba sp. Altogether there are now 16 known localities in France, Switzerland, Germany and Austria indicating that the species is well es‐ tablished for a rather long period and more widespread in Europe and perhaps worldwide. As in North America it lives on honeylocust (Gleditsia triacanthos L.), overwinters in the egg stage and probably has one or two generations a year, with adults at least from late June until early October. It is yet unclear if it causes relevant damage to the host plant in Europe. Keywords: alien species, neozoa, plant pests, Iassinae, Gleditsia 1. Introduction In 2012 a leafhopper was found in several localities in central Europe that was hitherto unknown to European hemipterists. Extensive search in taxonomic litera‐ ture from all around the world revealed that it was Penestragania apicalis (Osborn & Ball, 1898). This species was originally described from Iowa and Nebraska as a member of the genus Macropsis Lewis, 1834 (see Osborn & Ball 1898a), later placed into Bythoscopus Germar, 1833, Stragania Stål, 1862 (see Metcalf 1966a), and finally Penestragania Beamer & Lawson, 1945. The latter was originally erected as a subge‐ nus only and later raised to genus level by Blocker (1979) who limited the genus Stragania to the type species St. -

Medler INTRODUCTION HIS bulletin attempts to present as accurate and complete a T guide to the leafhoppers of Minnesota as possible within the limits of the material available for study. It is realized that cer- tain groups could not be treated completely because of the lack of available material. Nevertheless, it is hoped that in its present form this treatise will serve as a convenient and useful manual for the systematic and economic worker concerned with the forms of the upper Mississippi Valley. In all cases a reference to the original description of the species and genus is given. Keys are included for the separation of species, genera, and supergeneric groups. In addition to the keys a brief diagnostic description of the important characters of each species is given. Extended descriptions or long lists of references have been omitted since citations to this literature are available from other sources if ac- tually needed (Van Duzee, 1917). -

forest observer vol.4 2008 249 - 292 Biomonitoring der Zikadenfauna (Auchenorrhyncha) in alpinen Wald-Ökosystemen Südtirols auf den Dauerbeobachtungsflächen IT01 Ritten und IT02 Montiggl im Jahre 2006 Michael Carl Abstract Ecological assessment in alpine forest ecosystems: Biomonitoring of and bioindication by the leafhopper-fauna (Auchenorrhyncha) at monitoring sites in northern Italy Concerning leafhopper communities the Ritten (IT01) and Montiggl (IT02) have become one of the most intensively explored mountain massifs of South Tyrol. From 1996 to 2006 more than 4900 individuals out of 81 species were collected. The use of leafhoppers as a management tool for monitoring status and change in forest ecosystems is critically evaluated. The fauna of both sites is dominated by a characteristic set of partially strongly specialized species. Species turnover as well as evaluation of precipitation and temperature of the monitoring sites show a strong reaction of the leafhopper communities on effects probably caused by climate change. Phylogenetic studies on this subfamily were mainly based on morphological characters or several gene fragments and just involved single or two taxa. No mitochondrial genome was reported in Hylicinae before. Therefore, we sequenced and analyzed four complete mtgenomes of Hylicinae (Nacolus tuberculatus, Hylica paradoxa, Balala fujiana, and Kalasha nativa) for the first time to reveal mtgenome characterizations and reconstruct phylogenetic relationships of this group. The comparative analyses showed the mtgenome characterizations of Hylicinae are similar to members of Membracoidea. In phylogenetic results, Hylicinae was recovered as a monophyletic group in Cicadellidae and formed to the sister group of Coelidiinae + Iassinae. These results provide the comprehensive framework and worthy information toward the future researches of this subfamily. Among the cereals, rice and maize are two College of Post Graduate Studies (CAU), Umroi Road, Umiam, major food crops of India in general and North East region in particular. Several insect pests are Meghalaya, India associated with the cereal crop ecosystem which is a major threat to agriculture causing substantial economic losses. However limited information is available on insect pests of cereals ecosystem in mid- R Larinfeli hills of Meghalaya. Therefore, this study was conducted to study the biodiversity of insect pest of major Division of Crop Protection, cereal crops viz., rice and maize in mid hills of Meghalaya. During 2015-16, a total of 23 insect pests ICAR Research Complex for were collected, identified and documented which were belonging to four insect orders viz., Hemiptera NEH, Region, Umroi Road, (12), Lepidoptera (6) Coleoptera (4), and Orthoptera (1). 6 species of insect viz., Chilopartellus, Umiam, Meghalaya, India Helicoverpa armigera, Leptocorisa vericornis, Nilaparvata lugens, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis and Parapoynx stagnalis were found to be major pest of rice and maize and 17 species of insects viz., Rhopalosiphum maidis, R. padi, Parnara ganga, Leucopholis lepidophora, Nezara viridula, Xylotrupes siamensis, Melanitis leda, Oxya hyla hyla, Monolepta quadriguttata, Nephotettix nigropictus, N.
