As a guitarist, A & R man, engineer, producer, songwriting partner of Otis Redding, Eddie Floyd and a dozen others and founding member of both Booker T. and the MG’s and The Mar-Keys, Cropper was literally involved in virtually every record issued by Stax from the fall of 1961 through year end 1970.Such credits assure Cropper of an honored place in the soul music hall of fame. As co-writer of (Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay, Knock On Wood and In The Midnight Hour, Cropper is in line for immortality. Born on October 21, 1941 on a farm near Dora, Missouri, Steve Cropper moved with his family to Memphis at the age of nine. In Missouri he had been exposed to a wealth of country music and little else. In his adopted home, his thirsty ears amply drank of the fountain of Gospel, R & B and nascent Rock and Roll that thundered over the airwaves of both black and white Memphis radio. Bit by the music bug, Cropper acquired his first mail order guitar at the age of 14. Personal guitar heroes included Tal Farlow, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Reed, Chet Atkins, Lowman Pauling of the Five Royales and Billy Butler of the Bill Doggett band.

Second City became the parent of improvisation more than 25 years ago and, in doing so, changed the face of American comedy. Since then, each decade has brought a wave of such notables as Mike Nichols, Elaine May and Ed Asner, followed by Jerry Stiller, Joan Rivers, Shelly Berman, Anne Meara and Alan Arkin, and later by Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner and the brothers Belushi. From Second City in Chicago and (later) Toronto came the first headliners for the television show "Saturday Night Live": John Belushi, Bill Murray, Aykroyd and Radner. Second City also fueled the television series "SCTV Comedy Network," produced by the Toronto chapter. The show was aired by NBC in the late-Friday-night slot. Movies also felt the influence of Second City theatre, with such films as "Animal House," "Meatballs," "Stripes," and "Caddyshack." Second City member Harold Ramis, who was a regular from 1969 through the mid-1970s, co- wrote "Animal House" which featured John Belushi. Second City stars also made the cast of other projects. Joyce Sloan, Second City's producer for its entire history, said the touring company's performers will eventually become the people who perform in the resident company.

  • Who Ya Gonna Call?
Who Ya Gonna Call? If a person wanted to know what the most popular movie during the summer of 1984 was, all he or she had to do was walk into a room full of people and announce, “Who ya gonna call?” The resulting answer, Ghostbusters, was a blend of science fiction and comedy that took the world by storm and left audiences begging for more. Ghostbusters starred Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson as enterprising “ghost hunters” in New York City. Unknown to the Ghostbusters, the evil entity known as Gozer has moved into the city, causing a rise in paranormal activity. Gozer’s arrival eventually unleashes ancient spirits known as The Gatekeeper and The Keymaster, which possess Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) and her nerdy neighbor, Louis Tully (Rick Moranis). The film ends with a climactic battle between the Ghostbusters, Gozer, and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man above the streets of New York. According to the DVD’s commentary track, several major changes were made before Dan Aykroyd’s vision could be put to film. For example, did you know Dan Aykroyd originally wrote the script with Eddie Murphy, John Candy and John Belushi in mind? Unfortunately due to prior commitments, neither Murphy nor Candy could join the cast, and Belushi passed away in 1983 before filming began. Ernie Hudson ended up with the role intended for Murphy; Rick Moranis accepted John Candy’s role, and Bill Murray took over the character intended for John Belushi. Ghostbusters was a blockbuster hit, earning approximately $240 million dollars during its theatrical run.

As the New York Times noted on the occasion of the show’s Emmy-winning 25th anniversary special in 1999, “in defiance of both time and show business convention, ‘SNL’ is still the most pervasive influence on the art of comedy in contemporary culture” This paper is an attempt to discover the players behind this “pervasive influence”. This is an opinion piece compiled with information readily available from an array of internet sources. In the beginning, there was… (wikipedia) In 1974, NBC Tonight Show host Johnny Carson requested that the weekend broadcasts of “Best of Carson” come to an end. To fill in the gap, the network brought in Dick Ebersol – a protege of legendary ABC Sports president Roone Arledge – to develop a 90-minute late-night variety show. Ebersol’s first order of business was hiring a young Canadian producer named Lorne Michaels. There’s the starting gun. Let the search for red flags begin. • The Blues Brothers È Ormai Entrato Di Diritto Nella Storia Del Cinema Come Una Delle Commedie Più Brillanti E Originali Di Sempre
Basti pensare a nomi come Eddie Murphie, Jim Carrey, ecc.
