The consultancy is based in Bridgend South Wales and is becoming a recognised service provider to an ever growing client list within South Wales.

The ultimate aim of the consultancy is to become the leading civil engineering contractors’ consultancy within the UK through its consistent high quality work, repeat business and client recommendation.

The consultancy was established to provide whole project life cycle service capability with key multi profession oversight.

3.7 Special Assignments 1 & 2

Special Assignment - 1

Main Client: Cwm Taf Health Board

Project Title: Prince Charles Hospital Refurbishment Project Scope Full refurbishment of existing Prince Charles Hospital including substantial civil engineering works to remodel the internal structure and external envelope as Phase 1a, 1b and 2

Assignment Details:

The Internal fabric of the Hospital is heavily contaminated with asbestos. The civil engineering works were included within the asbestos removal packages, therefore all civil engineering works would be led by an asbestos removal contractor. We were engaged by an asbestos removal contractor to provide full technical and commercial support. We developed the methodology for undertaking the works and also prepared a full bill of quantities for phases 1a, 1b and 2. We also costed the bill of quantities and provided a programme for the phases which would cover a 6 year span. We also acted as the bid manager for this project, co-ordinating and liaising with the Principal Contractor and potential sub-contractors. We also assisted our Client at bid review meetings with the Principal Contractor.

Special Assignment - 2

Main Client: DT Civils

Project Title: Land off Road Project Scope Potential Development of 70+ dwellings

Assignment Details:

We were assigned to provide the abnormal costings for a potential housing development which was being considered for wholesale or self-development. Our client required a certified cost for the abnormal elements to the development. At this stage of the project our Client only had outline development details and no further construction or development details. We were provided with the abnormal elements for costing and prepared typical details of the typical elements such as pump stations, the required S278 works, service protection slabs, retaining walls and under-build requirements. We agreed the details with our Client and we developed a bill of quantities from these details and costed all bill items and ultimately provided the certified costs.

3.8 Special Assignments 3 & 4

Special Assignment - 3

Main Client: Network Rail

Project Title: Minor Works Framework (Wales Route) Civils Works Framework (South Wales) Building & Civils Framework (South Wales)

Project Scope To provide all technical support required for the tender submissions on 3 framework contracts for a non-rail contractor seeking a rail PC licence

Assignment Details:

We were commissioned to provide all the technical assistance in the preparation for 3 rail framework tenders. The framework tenders varied greatly in scope and buildability and involved the following; - Extensive platform modifications including side wall reconstructions, copers and tactile paving - The removal and replacement of an existing bridge spanning main and relief lines with poor site access - An existing brickwork underbridge requiring substantial repairs over an a road including embankment stabilisation works and scour protection. For all the above framework tenders we compiled the rail standard (NR/L2/OHS/0044) construction phase plan, works package plans, task briefing sheets and delivery programme. We also compiled the quality and environmental submissions for the tenders.

Special Assignment - 4

Main Client: Rhondda Cynon Taf

Project Title: Blaengarw Comprehensive School Demolition Project Scope Demolition of a 3 storey school complex

Assignment Details:

We were assigned to develop a standard unit rate for demolition on both m2 rates and m3 rates so that our client could easily tender for such works in the future and also serve as a comparison to their own qualative developed costings.

We developed the standard unit rates based on soft strip and full demolition with room types classified into varying categories and corresponding densities m3 of waste per m3 of room space.

This method allowed for quick quantification and 5 separate rates for type of use categorisation in either m2 format or m3 unit rates
