Curriculum Vitae Et Studiorum Eleonora Palma Curriculum di Maria Maddalena Altamura , Sapienza Università di Roma Professore Ordinario di Botanica Generale dal 2000 presso Sapienza Università di Roma. In precedenza Professore Associato di Botanica e di Anatomia Vegetale presso il medesimo Ateneo. Dal 1987 a tutt’oggi responsabile del Laboratorio di Morfogenesi e Differenziamento del Dipartimento di Biologia Vegetale della Sapienza. Esperienza specifica nell’applicazione di metodologie di citologia, istologia, sistemi di coltura in vitro, microscopia elettronica e confocale, citometria di flusso, epifluorescenza. Esperienza di ricerca in particolare relativamente a genesi ed organizzazione dei meristemi in pianta e nei sistemi in vitro, con particolare riguardo alla formazione e mantenimento delle nicchie di cellule staminali, nonchè alla valutazione dell'espressione genica e dell'attività di proteine, a livello cellulare e tissutale, mediante istochimica GUS, ibridazione in situ, immunolocalizzazione e quantificazione di segnali di fluorescenza ed analisi d'immagine. I principali argomenti di ricerca riguardano: i) studio citoistologico dello sviluppo delle radici laterali ed avventizie in specie modello, ad esempio tabacco ed Arabidopsis thaliana, ed in specie legnose recalcitranti; ii) fattori di controllo della caulogenesi, rizogenesi e xilogenesi in sistemi in vitro (argomenti specifici: auxina,citochinina,ioni calcio,interazione poliammine ed oligogalatturonidi, ed interazione giasmonati/auxina in strati cellulari sottili di tabacco e Arabidopsis); iii) risposta cellulare e tissutale a stress abiotici e biotici con particolare attenzione ai meccanismi cellulari, fisiologici e molecolari coinvolti (argomenti specifici: acclimatamento al freddo, morte cellulare programmata, signaling del calcio, interazione osmotina/citoscheletro, attività delle desaturasi, dormienza embrionale,traffico cellulare, assemblaggio/disassemblaggio dei filamenti di actina, in particolare in olivo e frumento); iv) sviluppo del fiore in relazione al controllo ormonale ed allo stress (argomenti specifici: prolina,tempo di fioritura e sviluppo dell'embrione in Arabidopsis; auxina ed acido giasmonico, allungamento dello stame e deiscenza dell'antera in Arabidopsis; poliammine,microgametogenesi androsterilità, polline ed autoincompatibilità sporofitica e gametofitica in specie da frutto); v)ruolo di fattori di trascrizione MYB, MADS, GRASS e di geni coinvolti nella pluripotenza e totipotenza staminale (geni SERK) e nel rimodellamento della cromatina (fattori BET) sullo sviluppo della pianta in Arabidopsis e riso; vi)fitorimedio (accumulo di cadmio e arsenico in tabacco, Arabidopsis e Pteris vittata in relazione alla attività dei geni per la fitochelatina sintasi e detossificazione da cadmio in Daucus carota. Componente a tutt’oggi del gruppo di esperti del GEV 05 (Scienze Biologiche) per ANVUR, CINECA (VQR 2004-2010). Coordinatore del Dottorato di Ricerca in Scienze Botaniche della Sapienza Università di Roma dal 2002 al 2011. Attualmente responsabile del curriculum Botanica del Dottorato in Biologia ambientale. In passato per molti anni editore associato delle riviste scientifiche internazionali Plant Cell Tissue and Organ Culture e Annali di Botanica (Roma), attualmente editore associato della rivista Plant Biosystems. Membro della E.C. COST Action su Developmental Biology of Regeneration (WG 1 of "Quality enhancement of plant production through tissue culture").Membro della E.C. The main research topics are: i) cytohistological study of lateral and adventitious root development in model species, e.g., tobacco and Arabidopsis, and in recalcitrant woody species; ii) control factors of shoot formation, rooting and xylogenesis in in vitro systems (specific topics: auxin, cytokinin, calcium, polyamines and oligogalatturonides interactions, and jasmonates/auxin interaction in tobacco and Arabidopsis thin cell layers); iii) cell/tissue response to abiotic/biotic stress with particular attention to cellular, physiological and molecular mechanisms involved (specific topics: cold acclimation, programmed cell death, calcium signaling, osmotin/cytoskeleton interaction, desaturases activity, embryo dormancy, cell trafficking, assembly/disassembly of actin filaments, in olive tree and wheat, in particular); iv) flower development in relation to the hormonal and stress control (specific topics: proline,flowering time and embryo development in Arabidopsis; auxin,stamen elongation and anther dehiscence in Arabidopsis; polyamines,microgametogenesis, androsterility, pollen and gametophytic and sporophytic self incompatibility in fruit crop species); v) role of transcription factors (MYB, MADS, GRASS), and genes involved in pluripotency and totipotency of stem cells (e.g., SERK genes), and in chromatin remodelling (BET bromodomain factors) on plant development in Arabidopsis and rice; vi) phytoremediation (cadmium and arsenic accumulation in tobacco, Arabidopsis and Pteris vittata in relation to phytochelatin synthase gene activity, and cadmium detoxification in Daucus carota. Twenty-seven species (35% of the Wisconsin fauna) represent new state records, having never been previously recorded from the state. Wisconsin distribution, along with relevant collecting techniques and natural history information, are summarized. The Wisconsin nitidulid and kateretid faunae are compared to reconstructed and updated faunal lists for Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and south-central Canada.

    RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN DEAD WOOD AND ARTHROPODS IN THE SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES by MICHAEL DARRAGH ULYSHEN (Under the Direction of James L. Hanula) ABSTRACT The importance of dead wood to maintaining forest diversity is now widely recognized. However, the habitat associations and sensitivities of many species associated with dead wood remain unknown, making it difficult to develop conservation plans for managed forests. The purpose of this research, conducted on the upper coastal plain of South Carolina, was to better understand the relationships between dead wood and arthropods in the southeastern United States. In a comparison of forest types, more beetle species emerged from logs collected in upland pine-dominated stands than in bottomland hardwood forests. This difference was most pronounced for Quercus nigra L., a species of tree uncommon in upland forests. In a comparison of wood postures, more beetle species emerged from logs than from snags, but a number of species appear to be dependent on snags including several canopy specialists. In a study of saproxylic beetle succession, species richness peaked within the first year of death and declined steadily thereafter. However, a number of species appear to be dependent on highly decayed logs, underscoring the importance of protecting wood at all stages of decay. In a study comparing litter-dwelling arthropod abundance at different distances from dead wood, arthropods were more abundant near dead wood than away from it. In another study, ground- dwelling arthropods and saproxylic beetles were little affected by large-scale manipulations of dead wood in upland pine-dominated forests, possibly due to the suitability of the forests surrounding the plots.

INTRODUCTION Relationships between species of Physoronia REITTER, 1884, Lordyrodes REITTER, 1884 and Pocadioides GANGLBAUER, 1899 were established by KlREJT­ SHUK (1997), and his interpretation was later supported and partly revised (JELÍ­ NEK 1999). Nevertheless, even the species described before 1997 do not allow a clear separation of the subgenera. One of the new species described below shares the characters of different "subgenera" and, therefore makes the previous interpre­ tation useless. JELÍNEK (1999) made many valuable remarks on the position of this group; however, its proposed relationship to the genus Ussuriphia KlREJTSHUK, 1992 can scarcely be recognized, because the similarities of these groups are the result of parallel development of some characters rather than of common ancestry (KlREJTSHUK & KVAMME 2002).

The group is related to the P o c a d iu s complex (based on larval and adult morphology) and is charac­ terized by the following adult characters in combination: body form elongate and convex, pronotal and elytral margins narrowly explanate, vestiture of setae relatively sparse, length of antennomere 11 smaller than 9 and 10 combined, and metacoxae approximate with a moderately narrow inter- coxal process. Three genera are described as new: Pocadiolycra Kirejtshuk and Leschen, gen. nov.
