Kaitlyn Weaver/Andrew Poje (CAN) grab lead in Short Dance Kaitlyn Weaver/Andrew Poje of Canada grabbed a narrow lead in the Short Dance. Maia Shibutani/ Alex Shibutani (USA) are standing in second place and Alexandra Stepanova/Ivan Bukin of Russia came third. Dancing to the Blues “The Way You Make Me Feel” by Judith Hill and the Hip Hop “Dangerous” and “Jam” by Michael Jackson, Weaver/Poje collected a level four for the Blues pattern and their curve lift and a level three for the partial step sequence, the twizzles and side by side footwork. The two-time World medalists set a new personal best of 73.78 points. “Cup of Russia was a great start for us as the first competition of the season, but we went home, not far away, to Novogorsk and we worked on strength of our elements and the strength of our program along with the general dance ability, because it’s such a fun program to perform.

Stefania Berton/Ondrej Hotarek (ITA) clinch Pairs gold Italy’s Stefania Berton/Ondrej Hotarek clinched the Pairs gold medal, the first Grand Prix gold medal for an Italian Pair team. Wenjing Sui/Cong Han of China claimed the silver medal while overnight leaders Meagan Duhamel/Eric Radford of Canada settled for the bronze. Performing to “Dracula” by Philipp Glass, Berton/Hotarek completed a triple toe-double toe-double toe combination, a triple twist, throw triple loop and Salchow. The European bronze medalists achieved a level four for two lifts and the pair combination spin and earned a personal best of 124.54 points which added up to 193.92 overall and they moved up from second place to take the title. “It is a big surprise for us. Brazil and the Philippines will be represented for the first time in the figure skating event at Olympic Winter Games. The traditional fall event Nebelhorn Trophy was the ISU designated senior international figure skating qualifying competition as it was in 2009. Australia, Israel, Romania, Philippines, Ukraine, Italy earn Olympic spots for Men Athletes from Australia, Israel, Romania, Philippines, Ukraine and Italy earned the six Olympic spots for Men. Japan’s Nobunari Oda took the gold medal followed by Jason Brown (USA) and Jeremy Ten of Canada. Oda led after the Short Program with an excellent performance to “Cotton Club” that included the only quadruple toeloop of the day (87.34 points). The 26-year-old followed up with a quad-triple toeloop combination as well as seven more triple jumps in his Free Skating to “Wilhelm Tell” (175.64 points) and posted a new personal best total score of 262.98 points. “I was very focused on my first quad and when I landed it I felt relieved.
