Due to the negative attitudes and low expectations many people with Downs Syndrome are left behind. All people with Downs Syndrome should and must have the opportunity to live fulfilling lives and be included on an equal basis with others, in all aspects of society. There is a lack of understanding of the challenges individuals face across their lifetimes and a failure to support them with the opportunities and tools needed to live fulfilling lives. www.downs-syndrome.org.uk Prostate Cancer Awareness Month - March 2019 Ovarian Awareness Most men with early prostate cancer don’t have any Month - March 2019 signs or symptoms. But there are some things that may mean you're more likely to get prostate cancer. You might hear these described as risk factors. Even if you don't have any of the symptoms that we talk about below, speak to your GP about prostate cancer if: Over 50 years old - Prostate cancer mainly affects men over 50 and your risk increases with age Family history and genes - You are two and a half times more likely to get prostate cancer if your father or brother has been diagnosed with it, compared to a man with no family history of prostate cancer. Ethnicity - Black men are more likely to get prostate cancer than other men. Ovarian.org.uk Facebook.com/ovariancanceraction [email protected] 3 What’s going on in your Community? Cancer Champions - Early detection saves lives! Would you be able to spot the possible early signs of cancer in a friend or relative? If so, would you know how to approach the subject or what to suggest? Why not attend a half day session and become a Cancer Champion. Who can be a Cancer Champion? Anyone can! You don’t need any qualifications or prior knowledge on cancer. We need anybody from age 18 years upwards, from all walks of life who want to make a difference. You never know who you might be able to help. How can I become a Cancer Champion? All you need to do is attend one of our free half day sessions, which are laid back and informal, run by people like you (i.e. not doctors or people who speak jargon). You will learn about the early signs and symptoms of cancer, how to approach the subject, and what advice to give someone who might need it. • Enclosure & Agricultural Improvement in North-West Lincolnshire from Circa 1600 to 1850
ENCLOSURE & AGRICULTURAL IMPROVEMENT IN NORTH-WEST LINCOLNSHIRE FROM CIRCA 1600 TO 1850. Thomas M. Smith, MA Thesis submitted to the University of Nottingham for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy July 2012 i Abstract This study sets out to establish the link between enclosure and agricultural improvement in a group of parishes in north-west Lindsey, Lincolnshire between the sixteenth century and the mid-nineteenth century. In particular it emphasises the continuity of enclosure history through time, rather than concentrating only on the period of parliamentary enclosure as has often been the case in the past, and on links to agricultural improvement which include land reclamation, draining and warping. It shows that a simple explanation of enclosure in terms of driving up rents and allowing individual farmers to take their own farming decisions, fails to take into account the particular local circumstances of this area. Using a combination of enclosure documents and related material such as glebe terriers, land tax assessments, census materials, the 1801 agricultural returns and estate papers it sets out to show how agricultural improvement transformed both the landscape and the farming techniques in this area. In this process it covers a range of related topics including landownership, population, and the socio-economic structure of the villages of north-west Lindsey. It shows clearly that in this area enclosure is as much as anything associated with land drainage, and with improvements brought about by warping. These processes were interwoven, and separating enclosure out as a single movement underestimates the complexity of the farming arrangements required to ensure the most productive farming in this area.

  • Finds on Your Doorstep – 4000 Years of Life
1 Finds on your Doorstep – 4000 years of life in Kirton-in-Lindsey - finds recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme Database (search for finds.org.uk) – by Martin Foreman, Finds Liaison Officer for North Lincolnshire Prehistory, from the Bronze Age to end of the Iron Age (2350 BC – AD 43) 10 records Early finds from Kirton have been reported scattered across its fields. The earliest objects were two axes from the Middle Bronze Age (1800-1000 BC), both worn, and a fragment from the Late Bronze Age (1000 – 800 BC). All were found west of Kirton. The earlier axes were perhaps most significant for what could be made with them; their find-spots need not point to their ritual deposition. Iron Age finds include pottery and oven fragments from the airfield south of Kirton. These unlovely objects are important indicators of nearby settlement. A contemporary coin of the Corieltauvi comes from the western side of the parish. A flanged axehead and the blade of another bronze axe are from the time when the Humber region led Europe in the making of boats. A later socketed axe may be less likely to have seen use as a craft tool. Flanged axe and axe blade fragment Socketed axe fragment WILT-4A155B NLM-5576F0 SWYOR-6CE3ED A penannular ring found west of Kirton may be Early Iron Age or earlier. Ceramic finds indicate Late Iron Age settlement near the airfield, and a yellow metal coin core comes from the west of the parish. Ring Iron Age Potsherds Burnt daub walling Coin NLM-ED0A92 NLM-ED012C NLM-ECF4D7 NLM-ED1AC3 SWYOR-DA0899 The Roman period (AD 43-410) 318 records The quantity of Roman finds reported from Kirton-in-Lindsey points to the parish being busy at this time.

How to… submit a war memorial record to 'Lincs to the Past' Lincolnshire Remembrance A guide to filling in the 'submit a memorial' form on Lincs to the Past Submit a memorial Please note, a * next to a box denotes that it needs to be completed in order for the form to be submitted. If you have any difficulties with the form, or have any questions about what to include that aren't answered in this guide please do contact the Lincolnshire Remembrance team on 01522 554959 or [email protected] Add a memorial to the map You can add a memorial to the map by clicking on it. Firstly you need to find its location by using the grab tool to move around the map, and the zoom in and out buttons. If you find that you have added it to the wrong area of the map you can move it by clicking again in the correct location. Memorial name * This information is needed to help us identify the memorial which is being recorded. Including a few words identifying what the memorial is, what it commemorates and a placename would be helpful. For example, 'Roll of Honour for the Men of Grasby WWI, All Saints church, Grasby'. Address * If a full address, including post code, is available, please enter it here. It should have a minimum of a street name: it needs to be enough information to help us identify approximately where a memorial is located, but you don’t need to include the full address. For example, you don’t need to tell us the County (as we know it will be Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire or North East Lincolnshire), and you don’t need to tell us the village, town or parish because they can be included in the boxes below.
