Uefa Champions League UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - 2020/21 SEASON MATCH PRESS KITS Roazhon Park - Rennes Tuesday 20 October 2020 21.00CET (21.00 local time) Stade Rennais FC Group E - Matchday 1 FC Krasnodar Last updated 29/10/2020 15:33CET UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE OFFICIAL SPONSORS Match background 2 Legend 4 1 Stade Rennais FC - FC Krasnodar Tuesday 20 October 2020 - 21.00CET (21.00 local time) Match press kit Roazhon Park, Rennes Match background Two of the four sides making their first appearances in the UEFA Champions League proper this season meet in the opening round of Group E games as Rennes take on Krasnodar in France. • The pair – who are joined by Midtjylland (Group D) and İstanbul Başakşehir (H) in making their group stage debut in 2020/21 – have never met before but will be aware of the need for a positive result given that European powerhouses Chelsea and Sevilla are also in the section. Form guide Rennes • Rennes are making their European Cup debut in 2020/21 having finished third in Ligue 1 last season. • The Brittany club have played 62 matches in UEFA competition, 42 of them in the UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League. • This is Rennes' third successive season playing European football, a club first. • Having reached the UEFA Europa League round of 16 in 2018/19, Julien Stéphan's side finished fourth in their section in the same competition last season, picking up four points to finish behind Celtic, CFR Cluj and Lazio. • Rennes were 2-0 winners at home to Lazio on Matchday 6 in last season's UEFA Europa League, ending a run of six European matches without a victory (D1 L5). • Les Rouge et Noir are the 11th Ligue 1 club to take part in the UEFA Champions League group stage and the first French debutants since Montpellier in 2012/13. • This is Rennes' first European game against a Russian club. • The Brittany side have won nine of their last 16 home European matches, losing only two. Krasnodar • Krasnodar are the seventh Russian club to compete in the UEFA Champions League group stage, and the first newcomers from the country since Rostov in 2016/17. • This is only Krasnodar's seventh season in UEFA competition – they have featured every year since making their debut in the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League. In 2019/20, they were eliminated by Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League play-offs and went on to finish third in their UEFA Europa League section behind Basel and Getafe, picking up nine points from their six matches (W3 L3). • Third in the Russian Premier League for the second season in a row in 2019/20, Krasnodar had only played four European Cup matches before 2020/21. The first ended in a 1-0 home defeat by Porto in the 2019/20 third qualifying round first leg, only for them to then turn round the tie with a remarkable 3-2 victory in Portugal in which they led 3-0 at half-time. However, Olympiacos proved too strong for Murad Musayev's team in the play-offs, winning 4-0 in Greece and 2-1 in Russia. • Krasnodar had no such problems in this season's play-off, winning both legs of their tie against Greek club PAOK 2- 1 with Rémy Cabella scoring the winner in each game. • This is Krasnodar's fifth match against a French club. They drew 1-1 away and at home against LOSC Lille in the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League group stage and were paired with Nice at the same stage of the same competition in 2016/17, when they followed a 5-2 home win with a 2-1 loss in France. • Krasnodar have won two of their last three European away games, losing the other. Links and trivia • Born in Ajaccio, Cabella started his youth career at Gazélec Ajaccio before joining Montpellier in 2004 aged 14. He was part of the club's senior squad between 2009 and 2014 and has also had spells at Arles-Avignon (2010/11, loan), Marseille (2015–17) and St-Étienne (2017–19) in his homeland. • Cabella has played 13 games against Rennes (W3 D5 L5), scoring the only goal in Marseille's Ligue 1 away win on 3 December 2015. Cabella's Montpellier were beaten 2-0 at Rennes in the Coupe de la Ligue semi-finals on 16 January 2013. • Have played together: Jonas Martin & Rémy Cabella (Montpellier 2012–14) M'Baye Niang & Rémy Cabella (Montpellier 2014) Hamari Traoré & Wanderson (Lierse 2013–15) Latest news 2 Stade Rennais FC - FC Krasnodar Tuesday 20 October 2020 - 21.00CET (21.00 local time) Match press kit Roazhon Park, Rennes Rennes • Summer transfers In: Steven Nzonzi (Roma, loan), Martin Terrier (Lyon), Nayef Aguerd (Dijon), Serhou Guirassy (Amiens), Alfred Gomis (Dijon), Dalbert (Internazionale, loan), Daniele Rugani (Juventus, loan), Jérémy Doku (Anderlecht) Out: Jakob Johansson (IFK Göteborg), Alan Kerouedan (Rodez), Jérémy Morel (Lorient), Maxime Bernauer (Le Mans), Riffi Mandanda (released), Mathis Picouleau (Valenciennes), Jordan Tell (Clermont), Souleyman Doumbia (Angers), Metehan Güçlü (Valenciennes, loan), Denis-Will Poha (Guimarães), Rafik Guitane (Marítimo, loan), Armand Laurienté (Lorient), Theoson Siebatcheu (Young Boys, loan), Edouard Mendy (Chelsea), Lucas Da Cunha (Nice), Jérémy Gelin (Royal Antwerp, loan), Sacha Boey (Dijon, loan), Raphinha (Leeds) • Rennes have scored 15 goals in winning four of their first seven Ligue 1 games and drawing the other three, including 1-1 at Dijon on Friday; together with league leaders LOSC Lille, they are the last two unbeaten teams. • Guirassy scored twice on his first start for Rennes, a 4-2 win in Nîmes on 13 September. He also found the net in a 3-0 success at St-Étienne on 26 September. • On 7 October Eduardo Camavinga, aged 17 years 333 days, became France's youngest goalscorer since Maurice Gastiger against Switzerland in March 1914. Camavinga scored the opening goal in a 7-1 friendly win against Ukraine at the Stade de France. • Camavinga had already became the youngest player to represent France since Gastiger in 1914 when he made his senior debut aged 17 years 304 days in the UEFA Nations League game against Croatia on 8 September (4-2). • Camavinga is also the youngest player to sign a professional contract with Rennes (17 years 35 days, December 2018), the first player born in 2002 to feature in one of Europe's top five leagues (April 2019) and the youngest goalscorer in Rennes' history (v Lyon, December 2019, 17 years 36 days). • James Lea Siliki (adductors) is yet to play this season after being injured in a pre-season friendly against St-Étienne on 12 August. • Faitout Maouassa suffered an ankle injury against Monaco on 9 September and is expected to be sidelined until December. • Hamary Traoré scored for Mali against Ghana on 9 October in a friendly 3-0 win in Tukey. • Goalkeeper Gomis also has an adductor problem and is still awaiting his Rennes debut. • Centre-back Nayef Aguerd (muscular) left the Morocco camp early to return to Rennes for treatment, but played 90 minutes at Dijon. • Martin Terrier (groin) made his first appearance since 26 September on Friday, scoring Rennes' goal. Krasnodar • Summer transfers In: Igor Smolnikov (Zenit), Evgeni Gorodov (Akhmat), Evgeni Markov (Dinamo Moskva), Evgeni Chernov (Rostov) Out: Stanislav Kritsyuk (Os Belenenses), Jón Gudni Fjóluson (Brann), Manuel Fernandes (Kayserispor), Uroš Spajić (Feyenoord, loan) • Krasnodar have picked up 18 points from their first 11 league games of 2020/21, five fewer than at the same stage of last season. • Krasnodar were 3-1 winners at home to Rubin Kazan on Saturday having taken only one point from their previous two league outings. Marcus Berg and Rémy Cabella respectively scored their fifth and fourth league goals of the season, while Kristoffer Olsson found the net for the first time since 15 September 2019. • The 7-2 win at home to Khimki on 18 September was the first time Krasnodar have ever scored seven goals in a game. It was their biggest margin of victory since a 5-0 home success against Anzhi on 31 March 2019. • Olsson set up a goal in Sweden's 2-1 friendly win in Russia on 8 October. • Three days later, a Marcus Berg goal was not enough to prevent Sweden losing 2-1 in Croatia in the UEFA Nations League. • Sergei Petrov was left out of the Russia squad for the October games due to a muscular injury, but played 90 minutes for Krasnodar on Saturday. • Goalkeeper Matvei Safonov helped Russia to a 4-0 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying defeat of Estonia on 9 October and was subsequently called up to the senior squad. 3 Stade Rennais FC - FC Krasnodar Tuesday 20 October 2020 - 21.00CET (21.00 local time) Match press kit Roazhon Park, Rennes Legend ALL-TIME STATISTICS The all-time record of the competing clubs in UEFA club competition. • Ligue 1 Guide 2021/22
2021/2022 Ligue 1 Preview Guide INTRODUCTION After a historically close title race that saw four teams in the running Ligue 1 is back with no small amount of fanfare following a busy summer. Of those four sides, while Lille and Lyon have been relatively quiet as they try to consolidate under new managers, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain have been eager participants in the mercato, buying well in a way that addresses the two sides’ needs. Nice and Rennes have also done some canny business in the offseason, to say nothing of Marseille’s flood of arrivals, but the discussions about pro- spective title favorites in France have to start and end with the capital side. Even as rumors swirl around the potential departure of Kylian Mbappé, it’s hard to argue that Paris Saint-Ger- main haven’t done their utmost to convince their young star to stay. At least, that is, if one judges by their transfer activity. The arrivals of Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Achraf Hakimi have bolstered Mauricio Pochettino’s side in key areas whilst also adding another layer of dynamism. If he can keep his squad happy and balanced, this team looks as potent as any in Europe, Elsewhere, Monaco are probably best-equipped to challenge, even as they will have to contend with playing European football. The arrivals of Myron Boadu, Alexander Nübel and Ismail Jakobs look to be upgrades, and so long as Niko Kovac’s exciting, front-foot football remains in place and so do all of its key elements.

A Note from the Editor: For many, Ligue 1 cannot restart quickly enough following an almost perfect, but fundamentally cruel EURO 2016 for France on home soil. The pain suffered on that night in Paris by Didier Deschamps’s men and an entire nation remains all the more heartrending because of the newfound professionalism that Les Bleus conducted themselves with throughout the tournament. Karim Benzema antics aside, contrary to years of squad infighting, the team spirit inside the French camp was the strongest it had been since 2000. On the pitch, France proved that they are on the cusp of a new golden generation, with Samuel Umtiti, Kingsley Coman and Antoine Griezmann all shining. Although some of Les Bleus’ much touted young guns fell short of expectations, namely Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial, France’s U19 EURO win further confirms that the future is astonishingly bright for French football on the international scene. One would not be foolish to expect there to be some turnover of talent for the 2018 World Cup cycle, with Patrice Evra and others’ involvement coming to an end. Much like Les Bleus therefore, Ligue 1 too can expect a very different feel for the 2016/17 season. PSG have entered a new era after President Al Khelaifi’s obsession for progression in the Champions’ League failed to be adequately satisfied by Laurent Blanc, leading to the latter’s dismissal. Les Parisiens have appointed Unai Emery in Blanc’s place, who brings a new-age management approach that relies on a squad instead of a team of individuals, a charge often leveled at Blanc’s PSG.

GET FRENCH FOOTBALL NEWS 2020/2021 Ligue 1 Preview Guide Rarely has French football been simultaneously seemingly on the verge of a breakthrough moment in Europe, with the Champions’ League achievements of Lyon and Paris Saint-Ger- main not yet brought to their conclusion as I write this, or so seemingly vulnerable. For all of the achievements that teams like Lille or Lyon have had in recent years, French clubs still re- main prey for those with deeper pockets, and success only makes their most talented players that much more attractive - the unsettled nature of things at both the Stade Pierre Mauroy and Groupama Stadium are testament to that. Still, though, there is much to celebrate as a new season of Ligue 1 dawns - yes, Paris Saint-Ger- main look likely to stroll to the title again, but Marseille and their boisterous supporters will relish being back in Europe’s elite competition after finishing second. There is joy, too, at Rennes, where the Breton side have continued their steady improvement under Julien Stéphan and been rewarded with a place in the Champions’ League. For all of their acheivements last campaign, though, both of those teams may struggle, as Lille did last season, to negotiate playing in Eu- rope. Both have made important additons this summer, though, in the form of the influential Álva- ro González making his loan move permanent for Marseille and Rennes making a canny move in plucking Martin Terrier from Lyon to bolster their attack. Among their competitors, however, Lille have been the big spenders, splashing out €30m on the Canadian attacker Jonathan Da- vid, his success in the Belgian league hopefully boding well for him as he hopes to succeed the departed Victor Osimhen.
