The annual 41st Charter Night of the Magrath Lions Club was held in the Magrath United Church Hall Thursday evening, April 12th when a delicious roast beef dinner was served by the Magrath U.C.W. Lion Garth Veale was Master of Ceremonies for the evening; Lion Dean Anderson was Tail Twister. The evening opened with the singing of '*0 " accompanied by Mrs. Maude Ririe on the pano. President Erwin Raasch welcomed the guests following which Lion John Moors, Town Councilman, brought greetings on the occasion from the Town of Magrath. Honored guests of the evening were District Governor .Bob Hubka and his wife Rosella of . Two musical numbers were enjoyed by the guests during the evening from Dan Davies who first played a french horn solo "Romance" accompanied by his mother Mrs. Alma Davies. Dan also rendered a piano solo. Lion Ken Balderson introduced the guest speaker'for the occasion, Mr. Ian Mandin who gave a very Interesting and most colorful talk on the Origin of Expressions: e.g. "In A Pickle". Garth Veale presented Mr. Mandin with Magrath's History Book "Irrigation Builders" in appreciation for his contribution to the evening with Ken Balderson thanking Mr. Mandin and Dan Davies and Mrs. Davies for sharing their talents. Lion Garth, on behalf of the Lions Club, also presented.ar/"Irrigation Builders" book to departing member Herman Lubbers who wah the Club Secretary, a most efficient one. The Lubbers Family left very recently to make their home in Schuller, Alberta where he was transferred with Alberta Pool. District Governor Hubka gave a few interesting remarks. He made special presentations of a "Key Member" pin to Lion John Moors who had enrolled two new members in the Magrath Lions Club who have stayed active in the club for one year and a day, and a "Master Key" to Lion Charlie Matkin for enrollment of 12 members. He also presented Lion Charlie with a 30 year attendance award pin and plaque in recognition of his untiring work and devotion to Lionism. The draw for the McIntyre steer calf was made by Dist. Governor Hubka with John Bourne the lucky recipient - and a most deserving winner for John has worked very diligently in promoting the sales of tickets during his years as a member of the Club. Closing remarks of the evening were given by Lion Charlie Matkin. The most enjoyable eveningsclosed with the singing of "God Save the Queen" accompanied by Mrs. Ririe.
