We came second over all ifi that competition but were not officially judged with the Big Ban Stopping over at Fairmont Hot Springs for a well- - deserved- * rest , the Band then travelled to Spokane, Wash,' . jfor----- the ------Northwest Marching Band Championship Here they took first place in 1the------A division over 11 bands and placed 6th ove all out of 26 bands. This meant they won over 10 of the bands in the open di On ision as well. These are bands with student body enrollment of over 1200. those of us who watched the full band display realized what an incredible ach ievement it was. Many families”■ 5 accompanied the Band to Salt Lake and Saturday was Magrath D in Spokane as hundreds of Canadians crowded into the stadium.'' ”No official""’ " * ’ cou but "Spirit of Alberta" hats were all over. The contagious enthusiasm of the group is one of the things that makes our Band great, and perhaps it is caught from an outstanding group of Band Booste behind the scenes who raised over $50,000 for this trip . We competed with man groups who spend many times more than this on their groups. Ferndale, who won the A division the last two years, has four Band directors and a much larger student body and budget.- , a.
