Project Runnway PROJECT RUNNWAY Project Runway is an American reality television series that focuses on fashion design. The contestants compete with each other to create the best clothes and. Stalwarts like Top Chef offered even tighter, more fiery conditions for contestants to crack under, while upstarts like Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen, and other design-related competitors like Design Star and Fashion Star, helped crowd the field. Designer Keith Michael became the first designer to be asked to leave the show for multiple rule violations. For the first time in Project Runway history, only three contestants showed their collections at New York Fashion Week. However, unlike the previous season, the last challenge does not have a bearing on this decision and any of the four remaining designers could be eliminated before fashion week. Further information: Project Runway season 7 The seventh season premiered on January 14, , featuring 16 designers. Michelle Lesniak Franklin won the competition with her model Lisa Jackson. His success would have served as temporary inspiration for the contestants, even as it eludes most winners of the show. Obviously, no one wanted Weinstein to profit further from the series or possibly use it to wield undue influence. He was found to be in possession of prohibited pattern-making books and left the production site for several hours, during which time he used the internet. Kenley was praised for her well-tailored designs, but was eliminated first because some of her designs were reminiscent of other professional designers' collections. Because for much of , the design competition series looked like it would go the way of low-rise jeans, which have faded in popularity and may they never come back since , the year that Project Runway debuted. The episode, featuring a special guest judge appearance by first season competitor Austin Scarlett, was intended as an homage to the glories of past seasons, the fifth season being the last on Bravo and by original producers Magical Elves. Chloe Dao won the competition with her model Grace Kelsey. But Bravo wisely chose to bring Siriano on as a mentor for the new batch of designers because he knows this competition and business inside out. While that approach has occasionally made the show look almost staid when compared to something like Survivor , it also positioned Project Runway as a forebear to the new line of good-hearted competition shows like The Great British Baking Show and Making It. This first episode was the first time that they repeated a challenge from a previous season: the Gristedes challenge, in which the designers had to make a design of their choice using what they could find at a grocery store. For the first time since Season 1, there was no reunion or opening introduction due to time restraints. Originally, Justin would have been eliminated in Episode 6, but he was given a second chance due to the newly instituted "Tim Gunn Save. Originally, Michelle would have been eliminated in Episode 11, but the judges gave her a second chance. This was the second season overall and the second consecutive season where all three finalists were female. The three finalists of the sixth season showed their collections at Bryant Park on February 20, , but the finalists were not named and did not appear onstage that day. Complacency and stagnancy, on the other hand, are never a good look. In a new finale twist, Rami Kashou and Chris March, the bottom 2 of the last challenge, had to show the three best pieces from their collections to the judges. Maya Luz won the fan favorite award. The winner was Erin Robertson. Shortly after nabbing victory at New York Fashion Week in , Siriano apologized for using the slur and vowed to do better, which he has in part by making sure his own eponymous fashion line is inclusive, as well as heeding the call of celebs like Leslie Jones , who expressed dismay over the underwhelming response from fashion houses when she needed a dress for the Ghostbusters premiere. Jack Mackenroth left in Episode 5 and was replaced by Chris March, who had been the most recently eliminated designer. Celebrating the show's tenth season milestone, this season launched with a fashion show in front of a live audience. The win was rescinded and awarded to another designer. Like Gunn, he espouses the importance of time management, but because Siriano knows just what you can accomplish under these constraints, his suggestions feel more relevant. Originally Margarita would have been eliminated in episode 11 but was spared elimination and brought back into the competition by Tim Gunn. Jennifer Lopez was supposed to be the guest judge in the finale, but bowed out at the last minute, so Tim Gunn took her place. Siriano was one of the strongest contenders in his season, standing out from the rest of the pack for all the right and wrong reasons: He picked up three challenge wins the exact number that season 17 frontrunner Hester Sunshine currently has , but also became notorious for a transphobic slur he used as a catchphrase. Roberi Parra was the PROJECT RUNNWAY runner-up, with Laurence Basse and Rik Villa coming in third and fourth place respectively. Andrea Katz and Kooan Kosuke both quit on Episode 3 due to personal reasons. Advertisement Project Runway Photo: Bravo But uncertainty continued to plague Project Runway after what had been its most compelling season in years, as the news broke that original host Heidi Klum and mentor-turned-co-host Tim Gunn were bidding auf wiedersehen to the reality series to launch a new, as-yet-untitled show on Amazon. Films released the feature-length documentary "Eleven Minutes". Siriano continues to deliver must-haves on the red carpet and in ready-to-wear collections, so his reputation and bottom line have never looked better. Originally, Char would have been eliminated in Episode 6, but she was given a second chance and returned to the show by Tim Gunn who used his "Tim Gunn Save. Dmitry Sholokhov won the competition with his model Katt Vogel. After the show, Tim Gunn publicly aired his disappointment in Kors' and Garcia's choice for the winner. This was also the first season in which four designers were chosen to prepare collections for Fashion Week, but only three proceeded on in the competition to show their collections at Fashion Week. Tim Gunn returns for his 15th season as a mentor..

(December 2009) Andrea Schweikhard Robison, B.A., Texas A&M University Chair of Advisory Committee: Dr. Antonio La Pastina Project Runway premiered on Bravo TV on December 1st, 2004, and is now in its sixth season, which aired on Lifetime. On Project Runway, designer contestants live together in apartments in downtown New York for the duration of filming and work on weekly challenges at Parsons The New School for Design. I am interested in determining the ways in which reality shows like Project Runway both allow and restrict the display of gender and sexual identity for contestants through the construction of a social order. This study is a textual analysis of all five currently released seasons of Project Runway. I draw from theories of social interaction to provide the interpretive framework for this study.
