Bandits Down Capps, Kings: The LumberKings rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to take a 5-4 lead in the third inning, but the Quad Cities River Bandits scored twice in the fourth and added a run in the seventh for RECORD BREAKDOWN an 8-5 win last night at Modern Woodmen Park. Right-hander Carter Capps (L, 1-1) was hammered for seven runs over 3.1 innings, four coming in the first inning. Kolten Wong led off the game with a solo HR to Current Streak: Lost 3 right field, and Joey Bergman added a two-run double just out of the reach of right-fielder Kalian Sams. Slammin’ Sammy: Kalian Sams extended his RBI streak to three-straight games last night with two RBI on his third triple of the season…he finished 1-for-4. Sams has driven in six runs on the span, including three on his team-leading 17 th HR on Monday against Beloit (off RHP A.J. Achter). The 17 th blast was Sams’ career-best 23 rd HR this year (6 came with high-A High Desert). The South Holland, Netherlands native has 68 career home runs including 37 in the Midwest League (4 with Wisconsin, 33 with Clinton).

Romero is Rolling: Stefen Romero went 1-for-4 with a run scored last night, giving him a hit in 42 of his last 50 games since the end of June …he’s hitting .315 (79-for- 251) with 13 HR and 48 RBI in that span. Romero hit in 10-straight games from 8/14 to 8/24, hitting .410 (16-for-39) with five doubles, a triple, HR, 12 runs scored and nine RBI…it was his longest streak since hitting in 13-straight from 7/25 to 8/8 (the longest streak by a LumberKing this season). Seattle’s 12 th round pick in 2010 out of Oregon State, Romero leads the club in batting average (.279), doubles (21), RBI (63), slugging percentage (.464) and OPS (.805)…he’s also second on the club in home runs (16).

Bullpen Briefs: Right-hander John Taylor saw a 5.1-inning scoreless streak snapped last night, but has still allowed just one earned run over his last 9.0 IP for a 1.00 ERA…he’s lowered his ERA from 9.53 to 4.30 in the last four outings. RHP Jonathan Arias tied a season-high with four ER allowed over 2.0 IP on Wednesday night, but is still 5-1 with nine saves and a 2.29 ERA (13 ER in 51.0 IP) since the end of May. The former catcher has a 14.37 K/9.0 IP average, leading all MWL relievers. RHP Tyler Burgoon tossed a scoreless inning (9 th scoreless outing in his last 11 games) in a non- ninth on Saturday vs. Beloit. Burgoon leads the bullpen in ERA (2.28), wins (5), saves (14) and WHIP (1.13).
