Th e mine is about 5,000 feet above sea level, Tailings Remediation and in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest’s Siskiyou Mountains Site Restoration Ranger District. Rogue River, Oregon Th e hard-rock mine was named for the characteristic blue sheen of weathered chalcopyrite, the that miners took out of the Joe Creek drainage. Th e tailings are from the estimated 12,000 feet of adits SUMMARY and shafts miners dug into the mountain early in the 20th century. ERRG was tasked to restore the site where waste rock from the mine has been leaching toxic material into surface waters for over 100 years. A stout cable is attached to the Spider to anchor it to the Repository Design mountain against a 76% slope. Hand laborers using climbing gear clean up tailings that cannot be reached with the Spider. ERRG will perform maintenance of the erosion control structures and monitor the project’s vegetation reclamation and aquatic environment for three more years.

Remediation of ERRG was contracted by CH2M Hill to conduct Environmental Non-ERA West Defuel Remediation Activities (ERA) at the Non-ERA West Defuel site and Non-ERA site 2035, Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington. General Site and Site 2035 activities at both sites include sampling and analysis, excavation and disposal of contaminated soils, dewatering treatment, confi rmatory sampling, and backfi lling/restoration of the sites. SUMMARY ERRG conducted sampling and analysis of existing groundwater. Th e groundwater samples were submitted to the laboratory for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), Metals, volatile organic compounds Owner (VOCs), and Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylene (BTEX) U.S. Air Force analyses to determine treatment for discharge. ERRG excavated over Location 17,500 yards (25,000 tons) Fairchild Air Force Base, WA of petroleum contaminated soils at the site while Award Date dewatering and treating February 2011 contaminated groundwater from the excavation. Airfi eld Operations Restrictions Large concrete tank saddles were demolished and removed from the bottom of the excavation at over 20 feet below ground surface. Over 1,200 cubic yards of concrete reinforced with 1 inch rebar and up to 6 feet thick were safely removed without damage to adjacent high voltage electrical, natural gas, and jet fuel utilities. All work was conducted within the airfi eld operations area, adjacent to fueling systems, hangars and taxiways. Compliance with security, driving, and foreign object damage restrictions was required.

A summary of some representative projects are included below. of Facilities Aircraft Display ERRG designed and constructed three new SUMMARY concrete display pads and walkways for the aircraft exhibits, as well as display lighting for each monument. Recycling of Materials Building 1256, Auditorium Remodel Training Manuals ERRG remodeled the ECAC Auditorium, which included the removal Concrete and Masonry of the existing planetarium and theater seating. Th e auditorium was Vertical Construction converted to a class room space including new custom whiteboards, revised lighting, new projection screens and student auditorium seating. In addition to the auditorium, several classrooms in the building were remodeled and upgraded with new paint and tackable wall panels.

Th e work included repainting the 1,468 square foot Station Guard Station and shed. Prior to stabilization activities, a visual survey was performed, inspecting all exterior painted surfaces to identify areas of deteriorated paint. SUMMARY Removal of chipping and fl aking paint was performed manually using paint scrapers. All scraped surfaces were kept wet to reduce emissions of LBP, and the surfaces were wiped down following the paint scrape. Owner All visible LBP debris were collected and rolled up in sheeting. During U.S. Forest Service this project, approximately 170 pounds of LBP debris was collected. Th e debris was sealed in a Location heavy-duty bag, and disposed of off -site. Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington Following the paint scrape and cleanup, all newly scraped bare wood external surfaces of Award Date both structures were coated with an oil-based, January 2010 non-lead-containing primer. Soil samples were collected along the adjacent drip line for soil evaluation. Based on the soil analytical results, lead contamination in soil was identifi ed at the Guard Station. As a result, remediation of soil was required. Th e public frequently uses the front and back areas of the Guard Station building, thus a high potential existed for the public to come into contact with lead-contaminated soil. ERRG recommended soil remediation including excavation and backfi ll, at the contaminated locations. ERRG conducted the remediation of lead-contaminated soil identifi ed in the front and back of the Guard Station. ERRG excavated 12 tons of lead contaminated soil from the Guard Station Building around sidewalks, porches and existing trees, disposing of the lead contaminated soil at the Hillsboro Landfi ll. ERRG replaced the excavated soil with native soil, returning the site to pre-remediation condition.

USCG Seattle Massachusetts Avuenue ERRG was contracted by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) to conduct Phase I and Phase II Environmental Due Diligence Audit (EDDA) to Phase I and II EDDA support the future transfer of Massachusetts Avenue Right-of-Way from the City of Seattle to the USCG. Th e site is situated in an industrially zoned urban area, on a highly SUMMARY developed waterway, and surrounded on three sides by industrial properties with similar topographical relief. USGS historical topographic maps indicate the site has existed as a right-of-way providing street vehicular and railway access to the facilities located at Owner adjacent Piers 34, 35, and 36, since the early 1900s. Th e site is paved U.S. Coast Guard and provides vehicular and foot access to the Base Seattle facility located on Piers 36 and 37. Upon completion of all Award Amount sampling activities, the boring locations were abandoned in place and $49,055 fi lled with bentonite pellets. Surface completion consisted of an asphalt- concrete patch to match the surrounding surface. Final Contract Price $49,055 All soil samples were analyzed for volatile organic compounds (VOCs); semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs); gasoline-, diesel-, and Services Provided residual-range organics; and target analyte list (TAL) metals. ERRG Phase I and II EDDA collected two soil samples from each of fi ve soil boring locations, for a total of 10 samples. Soil samples were collected using direct-push drilling and sampling equipment. Once groundwater was reached during advancement of the soil borings, a grab groundwater sample was collected from each of the fi ve borings using a low-fl ow peristaltic pump and disposable tubing. Two gallons of groundwater were purged from the boring prior to collecting each sample. Because the groundwater samples were collected from borehole casings instead of dedicated monitoring wells, analytical data for the groundwater samples were considered qualitative and were used for preliminary evaluation only. All Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH), VOCs, SVOCs, and TAL Metals detected in the soil were below the cleanup level. Arsenic, chromium, and lead were detected in the groundwater at concentrations exceeding their respective cleanup levels.

Carbonado Wastewater

ERRG provided construction services for the renovation of the 0.75 acre Lagoon Liner wastewater lagoon at Carbonado, Washington at the foothills of Replacement Mt. Rainer. Th e project included bypassing the current wastewater fl ow into a temporary treatment lagoon, installing bypass pumping systems, the removal and disposal of biosolids and existing Hypalon geomembrane liners from the wastewater treatment lagoon, and SUMMARY the installation of a smooth high-density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembrane liner and reinstallation of existing aerators and baffl e curtains. Th e new liner installation consisted of one layer of 60-mil smooth geomembrane with a strip drain vent system. As part of the Owner renovation of the facility, approximately 40 cubic yards of contaminated Town of Carbonado soil was excavated and removed from the site. Conco Warehouse

Th e Conco site is located in Kent, Washington and is the Expansion Northwest Headquarters of Conco, a $300M concrete pumping Construction company. In expanding their operation, it became necessary to add another large warehouse in the existing concrete staging area. ERRG removed all tree, bush, SUMMARY and shrub debris and disposed of it off site. All vacant existing structures in the vicinity of the construction were demolished. East Marginal Way

ERRG completed the installation of an extensive stormwater Stormwater Conveyance conveyance system throughout the 10 acre East Marginal Way site System Installation to allow the redevelopment of this parcel. Th e site is one of the last Federal-oversight Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) sites in EPA Region 10 resulting from past chemical manufacturing. Materials manufactured on the site from the 1920s through 1990s SUMMARY ranged from phenolic glues for plywood to the production of Vanillin. Th e stormwater conveyance system was installed throughout the RCRA containment cell and required breaching of the slurry wall containment in numerous locations. Owner Rushforth Construction Site conditions required extensive worker protection and environmental monitoring. In order to facilitate the aggressive schedule while Location providing maximum worker safety, the entire RCRA containment cell Seattle, WA site was designated as an exclusion zone. ERRG was awarded this fi xed price contract to regrade and contour the East Marginal Way 10 acre East Marginal Way site to allow the paving and redevelopment of this parcel. ERRG incorporated large quantities of contaminated RCRA Cell Upgrades fi ll material from an adjacent Hot Spot Removal Action. Due to the amount of additional material, the cell contours were redrawn and site elevations were adjusted. SUMMARY Grading was complicated by extensive industrial debris, including metal, concrete, masonry and wood found in the fi ll material. ERRG routinely met and updated Owner the client while suggesting ways to Rushforth Construction optimize the schedule. Grant County Landfi ll

ERRG provided personnel for the removal, sampling and disposal of Drum Sampling, approximately 2,400 drums of unknown hazardous waste from the Staging and Disposal Grant County Landfi ll in Ephrata, Washington. Th e Landfi ll received an unknown number of drums of hazardous waste in the mid 1970s. Th e drums were disposed of in the open cell of the SUMMARY landfi ll; however, documentation was incomplete regarding the types of liquid and solid wastes, exact location of the drums and methods used to place the drums in the cell. ERRG performed a limited site investigation at the landfi ll to determine the exact footprint of the drum Owner cache, depth to the top of the drums, condition of the drums, and Grant County sampled a small amount of drum contents. Data resulting from this fi eld eff ort helped to establish the sampling approach and protocols for Location the removal action.
