U18s Report

Knaphill U18 2 v AFC Wimbledon U18s 3

We started off a bit nervous giving the ball away in some poor areas as Wimbledon looked to press us aggressively all over the pitch. We struggled to play our natural game as Wimbledon were set up well against us.

Ultimately this cost us as we were pressured into two poor mistakes that we wouldn’t normally make. Even so deservedly down 2-0 at half time after only creating two chances of our own in the first half. The second half credit to our boys was an entirely different game, we had changed a few things at half time and in the second half played a lot more like our natural game creating space and time and having a lot more possession. We started to create good chances and were unlucky not to get to 2-2 with Wimbledon limited to a few chances on the counter attack. We got back to 2-1 with a great finish from Rhys Gay just after narrowly missing a 1v1 with the Wimbledon Keeper, who was excellent for the visitors. We got caught on the counter attack against the run of play to make it 3-1 but our boys rallied but unfortunately couldn’t take advantage of a sin bin for the visitors in the last twenty minutes. We managed to get back to 3-2 With a great finish from Tom who was by far the best striker on the pitch and with Wimbledon trying to run the clock down in the corners we were running out of time to get the equaliser that we thoroughly deserved.
