Since then we have been encouraged to see chairmen and their businesses take ownership of this agenda. The figures speak for themselves. FTSE 100 companies have increased the number of women on their board from 12.5% in 2011 to 20.7% today, with the FTSE 250 similarly improving from 7.8% to 15.6%. We have also seen considerable efforts and a significant change of mindset from other key players such as investors, executive search firms and business leaders – all working together to bring about real change. We are also pleased to see that within the FTSE 100, 98% of boards now include women. Glencore Xstrata and Antofagasta – are now the outliers. This is a considerable turnaround from where 1 in 5 boards were all male in 2011. The FTSE 250 also continues in the same vein with around 50 all male boards today, down by well over half on 3 years ago. In addition, this report highlights the many strong women candidates capable of filling board positions. Cranfield have identified 100 of their top Women to Watch, which is included here.

Canary Islands) remained the main contributor with 220 extra daily flights thanks to its dynamic internal flow, mainly Barcelona-Bilbao (+8 daily flights) and Barcelona-Palma (+6 daily flights) routes. The following four countries added each more than 100 daily flights and were among the top 5 contributors: Italy owing to its strong internal flow, Germany, Poland which saw a 13% increase in its local growth and Greece (Figure 2).

Introduction Shift workers who work at night, late evenings or early mornings will experience some degree of sleep deprivation leading to a fall in alertness during the duty period. For night workers, this is exacerbated by naturally falling performance that is driven by the circadian rhythm. With the exception of night workers on oil rigs, there is unlikely to be any improvement due to adaptation. The degree of sleep deprivation varies with the individual and becomes more pronounced with aging. Although counter measures such as napping before and during duty can help, it is likely that some adverse effects will persist. The consequence of a fall in alertness leads to slowed reaction times and reduced vigilance, poor decision making and lack of communication. In extreme cases this may contribute to incidents and accidents as evidenced by Exxon Valdiz and the Challenger space mission disaster. Unless individuals actually fall asleep, the incident or accident is normally a combination of faulty decision making within a critical situation.
