A manual or gravity saw requires an operator to manually feed the material, lift the saw head and close the vise, With a semi-automatic saw, a hydraulic or pneumatic vise raises the saw head, but an operator needs to feed material. With an automatic saw, an operator programs the saw for fully automated material feed (indexing) and cutting. Even though we specialize in Metal Cutting Band Saws, our legacy continues to parts and service as well. DoALL® Sawing Products offers a complete line of Service, Replacement and Repair Parts for our current line of band sawing machines. Our skilled team of service professionals – spread across America and around the globe – are trained in service and repair of the entire line of DoALL band saws. With the most complete line of vertical contour band saws, DoALL Sawing Products also offers horizontal saws, miter cutting saws, vertical tilt-frame models, horizontal production level band saws and, the latest addition to our sawing machine line-up, circular carbide saws custom tailored for production level environments. Our expansive line-up of saws range from manual operation to completely automatic sawing machines. DoALL, StructurALL and SAM - The Sawing Answer Man are all registered trademarks of DoALL Company. The company was started by two families, the Armstrongs and the Blums, and was originally incorporated as Armstrong-Blum Mfg. Co. The Armstrongs were manufacturing tools and tool holders under the name Armstrong Brothers Tool Co. and became friends with the Blum brothers who lived in the same neighborhood, belonged to the same parish and shared a common interest in design and manufacturing. The Blums had been granted several patents and needed manufacturing space. The Armstrongs rented them space in their factory on Francisco Avenue in Chicago which led to a partnership and the beginning a new jointly owned company. The company’s first saw was introduced in 1906 when they realized that a power driven hack saw they had developed for their own use was superior to others that were currently available and could be a marketable item. The saw was marketed under the slogan “Too simple to be misunderstood.” The first power driven hack saw, appropriately named the No. 1, weighed 115 pounds and sold for around $12.00. We’ve come a long way, with today’s, vertical tilt-frame saws, ranging from 2,700 to 10,000 pounds. In 2004, the descendants of the founding families sold the company to a group made up of three key company employees ensuring that the company legacy would live on. On July 31st, 2018; Amada Holdings purchased Marvel Manufacturing, Inc. now becoming Amada Marvel, Inc.ensuring that our products would continue to be made in America, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. We are proud to say that our products today are designed and manufactured to uphold those same standards and adhere to the original philosophy of placing the Marvel trademark only on a product which the word describes. Study Unit Toolholding Systems You’ve studied the process of machining and the various types of machine tools that are used in manufacturing. In this unit, you’ll take a closer look at the interface between the machine tools and the work piece: the toolholder and cutting tool. In today’s modern manufacturing environ ment, many sophisti- Preview Preview cated machine tools are available, including manual control and computer numerical control, or CNC, machines with spe- cial accessories to aid high-speed machining. Many of these new machine tools are very expensive and have the ability to machine quickly and precisely. However, if a careless deci- sion is made regarding a cutting tool and its toolholder, poor product quality will result no matter how sophisticated the machine. In this unit, you’ll learn some of the fundamental characteristics that most toolholders have in common, and what information is needed to select the proper toolholder. When you complete this study unit, you’ll be able to • Understand the fundamental characteristics of toolhold- ers used in various machine tools • Describe how a toolholder affects the quality of the machining operation • Interpret national standards for tool and toolholder iden- tification systems • Recognize the differences in toolholder tapers and the proper applications for each type of taper • Explain the effects of toolholder concentricity and imbalance • Access information from manufacturers about toolholder selection Remember to regularly check “My Courses” on your student homepage.
