For Linda, Evie, Mollie and Michael – always. Author’s Note While I have been fortunate over the years to have enjoyed the company of various ex-members and/or former employees of Led Zeppelin, it should be born in mind at all times that this is an unauthorised biography, written objectively and with no undue pressure from any outside influence to do anything other than tell the story as I honestly see it. It should also be clearly understood that the italicised ‘flashback’ passages of the text are not the actual words of Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham, John Paul Jones and Peter Grant, nor are they actual quotes. Whilst they are all based on thorough biographical research, the facts of which can be found in the Notes & Sources section at the end of this book, the words themselves are the product of my imagination. 2014 Next Wave Festival NONESUCH RECORDS AT BAM Greetings At BAM, we work with fantastic artists from all over the world. It is no coincidence that time and again, we have presented artists who have found a recording home with Nonesuch. To help celebrate the label’s 50th year, we are showcasing a diverse slate of the imprint’s adventurous creators in 14 different programs—including many alumni, and quite a few who make exciting BAM debuts in the 2014 Next Wave. The range is astonishing. It includes artists who have revolutionized the contemporary classical canon, or have expanded it in ingenious ways. Those based in idioms like jazz, folk, and bluegrass who have honed remarkably distinct voices. International stars reaching passionate new audiences. And rock icons crafting fresh collaborations while reminding us of why they’re so popular to begin with. We salute Nonesuch on this milestone, and thank its president, Bob Hurwitz, for working with BAM to bring you this terrific lineup of intrepid musical artists. Sincerely, Karen Brooks Hopkins Joseph V. Melillo 2014 Next Wave Festival NONESUCH RECORDS AT BAM Greetings BAM started the Next Wave Festival in 1983, a year before I got to Nonesuch. One day, out of the blue, Harvey Lichtenstein, the head of BAM, called my office at ECM Records, where I worked at that time, and insisted that I go that night to see a new show he was producing, The Gospel at Colonus. I dutifully changed my plans that night and saw the show—when Harvey called you had to take it seriously! And he was right—the next morning I called Mo Ostin, the head of our parent company, Warner Bros.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Sarah Hahne PRESS CREDENTIALS AVAILABLE San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino (909) 475-1800 x4222 [email protected] ROBERT PLANT BRINGS BAND OF JOY TO THE SAN MANUEL STAGE Former Led Zeppelin Vocalist and Six-Time Grammy® Award Winner Stops in Inland Empire Casino San Manuel Indian Nation, Calif. – April 15, 2011 – Thursday, June 9, 2011, the legendary Robert Plant takes the San Manuel stage to perform with the Band of Joy. Tickets on sale today, and available at Ticketmaster.com and the San Manuel Box Office for $80, $90 and $100. In 1967, Plant’s career had already taken off when he formed the Band of Joy with John Bonham, and created two partnerships; one with Terry Reid another progressive musician, and the second with harmonica player and co-vocalist Alexis Korner. It was Reid who recommended Plant to Jimmy Page for a revised Yardbirds line-up, which eventually became Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin would excel as one of the most commercially successful and influential groups of the 1970s, however with the untimely death of Bonham in 1980, the group would disband. Since that time, Plant has put his wide-ranging fascination to good use on solo albums, with Page, and in recordings with bands like The Honeydrippers, Priory of Brion, and Strange Sensation. His performances reflect his embrace of West Coast psychedelic rock, roots blues, African music and traditional folk. In 2007, he continued to expand his horizons releasing the album “Raising Sand”, a collaboration with Alison Krauss. The album’s unlikely but magnificent blend earned innumerable critical raves as well as six Grammy® Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year (for “Please Read the Letter,” a Plant/Page song).
