Tickets on sale today, and available at Ticketmaster.com and the San Manuel Box Office for $80, $90 and $100. In 1967, Plant’s career had already taken off when he formed the Band of Joy with John Bonham, and created two partnerships; one with Terry Reid another progressive musician, and the second with harmonica player and co-vocalist Alexis Korner. It was Reid who recommended Plant to Jimmy Page for a revised Yardbirds line-up, which eventually became Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin would excel as one of the most commercially successful and influential groups of the 1970s, however with the untimely death of Bonham in 1980, the group would disband. Since that time, Plant has put his wide-ranging fascination to good use on solo albums, with Page, and in recordings with bands like The Honeydrippers, Priory of Brion, and Strange Sensation. His performances reflect his embrace of West Coast psychedelic rock, roots blues, African music and traditional folk. In 2007, he continued to expand his horizons releasing the album “Raising Sand”, a collaboration with Alison Krauss. The album’s unlikely but magnificent blend earned innumerable critical raves as well as six Grammy® Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year (for “Please Read the Letter,” a Plant/Page song). The Band of Joy is reprised from that first band in the 1960’s. This time, Plant joined singer Patty Griffin, singer-guitarist Buddy Miller, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Darrell Scott, bassist-vocalist Byron House, and drummer-percussionist-vocalist Marco Giovino in a twelve-date tour in 2010. The band released the studio album, “Band of Joy” in September 2010 with Rounder Records label. Every Thursday night with headliner entertainment, San Manuel gives away $1,000 just for seeing the show. To be eligible to win, guests only need a ticket to the show, a Club Serrano card and to be 21 or older. Guests can enter beginning at noon on such days. Three drawings will be held on those nights: $250 at 7:20 p.m., $250 at 10:00 p.m. and $500 at 11:00 p.m. Winners must be present. Note: Doors open at 6:30. Must be 21 to enter Casino. Please gamble responsibly. About San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino: Celebrating 25 Years San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino is Southern California’s one-stop destination for entertainment and fun. The Majestic Silver Strings, produced by Buddy, is his re-imagination of country songs, loaded with guitars, atmosphere and attitude. Guest vocalists on the album include Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Lee Ann Womack, Chocolate Genius, Ann McCrary and Julie Miller. Rounding out the band are Dennis Crouch on bass and Jay Bellerose on drums. The Majestic Silver Strings and the album’s guests are among the most well respected and in-demand current musicians. (l to r): Robert Plant, Patty Griffin Credit: Erika Goldring Live from the Artists Den #304 “Robert Plant and the Band of Joy” Recorded February 9, 2011, War Memorial Auditorium, Nashville, TN Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Robert Plant is over 40 years into his storied career in music – and still going strong. In 1967 he formed a group called the Band of Joy with drummer John Bonham, before the two joined with guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones the following year to form the legendary band Led Zeppelin. After his 2007 Raising Sand collaboration with Alison Krauss garnered him five Grammy Awards (including Album of the Year and Record of the Year), Plant created a new Band of Joy, which features fellow luminaries Buddy Miller and Patty Griffin. Their widely acclaimed album, Band of Joy , was nominated for Best Americana Album and Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance at the 2011 Grammy Awards. A rare snowy day in Nashville, Tennessee, set the stage for an even rarer event – an intimate concert by rock icon Robert Plant at the War Memorial Auditorium . Performing with his new, Grammy-nominated group – aptly titled the Band of Joy – Plant played both Led Zeppelin classics and new songs that continue to have an impact on the music scene today. Song List “Black Dog” “Angel Dance” “House Of Cards” “Cindy, I’ll Marry You Someday” “Satan Your Kingdom Must Come Down” “Somewhere Trouble Don’t Go” “A Satisfied Mind” “Move Up” “Down To The Sea” “Ramble On” “Gallows Pole” “Harm’s Swift Way” “Rock And Roll” “I Bid You Goodnight” 60 minutes.

  • Woody Guthrie's Angry Sons and Daughters
“Seeds Blowin’ Up the Highway in the South Wind”: Woody Guthrie’s Angry Sons and Daughters Roxanne Harde University of Alberta, Augustana1 Abstract Both anger and hope drive Woody Guthrie’s protest songs. Lyrics like “This Land Is Your Land” offer a hopefully angry voice that continues to be heard in the work of contemporary American singer-songwriters. This essay analyzes the ways in which Guthrie’s voice and vision continue to inform the songs of Bruce Springsteen, Steve Earle, Patty Griffin, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, and Mary Gauthier. By bringing Guthrie’s hopeful anger that insists on justice and mercy and precludes sentimentality, hostility, and nihilism into conversation with the artists who continue his legacy of activism, this paper looks to the “Seeds” Guthrie sowed. In November 2009, at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary Concert, Bruce Springsteen opened his set with an astute and angry commentary and then introduced the perpetually enraged Tom Morello before launching into a blistering version of “The Ghost of Tom Joad,” just one of many Springsteen songs that depend upon the work of Woody Guthrie. “If you pick up the newspaper, you see millions of people out of work; you see a blood fight over decent health care for our citizens, and you see people struggling to hold on to their homes,” Springsteen said: “If Woody Guthrie were alive today, he’d have a lot to write about: high times on Wall Street and hard times on Main Street.” Relatedly, when David Rawlings performs “I Hear Them All,” with or without 1 Copyright © Roxanne Harde, 2018.

  • Patty Griffin Is Among the Most Consequential Singer-Songwriters Of
Patty Griffin is among the most consequential singer-songwriters of her generation, a quintessentially American artist whose wide-ranging canon incisively explores the intimate moments and universal emotions that bind us together. Over the course of two decades, the 2x GRAMMY® Award winner – and 7x nominee – has crafted a remarkable body of work in progress that prompted the New York Times to hail her for “[writing] cameo-carved songs that create complete emotional portraits of specific people…[her] songs have independent lives that continue in your head when the music ends.” 2019 saw the acclaimed release of the renowned artist’s GRAMMY® Award-winning 10th studio recording, PATTY GRIFFIN, on her own PGM Recordings label via Thirty Tigers. An extraordinary new chapter and one of the most deeply personal recordings of Griffin’s remarkable two-decade career, the album collects songs written during and in the aftermath of profound personal crisis, several years in which she battled - and ultimately defeated - cancer just as a similar and equally insidious disease metastasized into the American body politic. As always, Griffin’s power lies in how, as writer Holly Gleason observed in Martha’s Vineyard Gazette, “her songs seem to freeze life and truth in amber.” Griffin’s first-ever eponymous LP, PATTY GRIFFIN made a top 5 debut on Billboard’s “Independent Albums” chart amidst unprecedented worldwide acclaim – and later, a prestigious GRAMMY® Award for “Best Folk Album,” Griffin’s first win and second consecutive nomination in that category following 2015’s SERVANT OF LOVE. “A master class in vivid, empathetic roots music that’s both about taking responsibility for the choices we’ve made and surrendering to those made for us,” raved Entertainment Weekly.
