Brocken (lnsecta: Lepidoptera). HercyniaN.F. 31 (1998): 229-268. The author reports on his investigations on butterflies and moths ofbogs on the Mt. Brocken and its surrounding. He discovered !59 species during excursions at day-time and light-trapping. For the largest bogs in the studied district the author discusses their typical fauna. He proposes ecological groups ofLepidoptera as follows: I. spe cies of spruce forests, 2. species of deciduous forests, 3. species of tall herb communities, 4. species of sadge reets and cotton-grasslands, 5. species of grasslands, 6. species of herbaceous meadows, 7. species of subshrub communities, 8. species of blackberry bushes, 9. species on cryptogamous plants. The classification of the species follows the regularity of their occurence. A table shows the tyrphophil and tyrphobiont Lepidoptera on Mt. Brocken. The author discusses the occurence of Sterrhopteryx standfussi, Elachista albidella, E. kil munella, Clepsis rogana, Trichiura crataegi, Cosmotriche lobulina, Clossiana aquilionaris, Erebia epiphron, Elophos dilucidaria, E. vittaria, Eulithis testata, Carsia sororiata imbutata, Acronicta menyanthidis, A.auricoma, Plusia putnami gracilis, Syngrapha interrogationis, Apamea rubrirena, A. remissa, Pseudoips prasinana, Anarta cordigera and Xestia speciosa more precisely. After that he informs about historical captures of Lepidoptera fauna on bogs on Mt. Brocken. The author also compares the fauna of bogs on Mt. Brocken with the Lepidoptera occuring at similar places in other hercynical mountains. Last but not least a table of the boreo-montan and alpin elements of Lepidoptera of bogs on Mt.
