No, it’s not a cream, it’s the official form for submitting costs budgets that comes into force in April for most multi- track claims. Helpfully, the MOJ has made an Excel Newsletter version of the form available on its website. Not so Regular email helpfully, it doesn’t work. In fact Stephen Averill (Managing newsletter Director, Phoenix Legal Services Limited) has asked us to bring to your attention the fact that “the document is full of major formula errors. Almost all of the formulas Join Now! reference incorrect cells which makes the document Be part of useless. The precedent should therefore not be used… I the community cannot say at this stage whether the MOJ will pick this up and correct the mistake before 1st April but it is likely to cause chaos for ! those you who have not noticed.” You have been warned. Three cheers for the MOJ! Not. Again.

Maternity leave not a good career move

Not long after International Women's Day comes news that women are increasingly suffering illegal discrimination at work when they get pregnant, and are often made redundant while they are on maternity leave. Slater & Gordon commissioned research on levels of discrimination faced by women on maternity leave and the results have caused quite a stir in the national press. You can read ’s take on the story here.

Good Scott-Moncrieff!

The President of the Law Society of England and Wales, Lucy Scott-Moncrieff, has posted her latest regular update about Chancery Lane’s work representing solicitors and, for once, it’s actually worth a read! (No need to be rude – ed.) Civil costs, crime tendering (possible PI-style bloodbath in the offing), dinner with the Lord Chancellor and meeting the chair of the Bar Council. Phew! Have a read and maybe evensign up for more!

Follow up to Claims Portal introductory workshops

Well, the Claims Portal talk at the Thistle Park Hotel on 28 March was well attended but not particularly illuminating. In summary: “we’re doing our best to meet the deadlines set by the government.” (translation: is it any wonder why government IT projects have such a bad reputation). Of course, getting the changes to the portal in place presupposes that there will be any PI firms left to use it. You can download the presentations used at the talk here.
