Through their prayers, O Christ our God, save us. KONTAKION OF THE THREE YOUTHS — Tone 6 Glory be: Now and ever: You did not worship a man-made image, O Thrice-blessed youths, but were glorified in the test of fire, protected by a power beyond description. From the flames you cried out to God, saying: “Hasten to help us, O Merciful Lord, for in Your greatness You can do whatever You will.” PROKIMENON — Tone 4 Blessed are you and praiseworthy, O Lord, the God of our Fathers, and glorious forever is Your Name. V. In all that you have done, Your justice is apparent.. ALLELUIA — Tone 4 Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! V. We heard with our own ears, O God, and our fathers have told us (of the things You did in their time.). V. You saved us from our foes, You put our enemies to shame. COMMUNION HYMNS Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise Him in the highest. Alleluia. (3x) Second Hymn: Exult, you just, in the Lord; praise from the upright is fitting. Alleluia. (3x) Dear Members of St. Josaphat, CHRIST IS BORN! GLORIFY HIM! J. B. Phillips wrote a fable entitled, “The Visited Planet” in the second chapter of his book New Testament Christianity. It is a story of a veteran angel showing a young angel the vast galaxies of the heavens. During this tour of the universe the senior angel explained that the little planet, which to the junior angel looked like a “dirty tennis ball” was the “visited planet.” With great skill the senior angel spun time back and said, “Now watch something will happen on that dark ball.” And sure enough, suddenly there was a bright flash. The little angel said, “Was that the visit?” “Yes” said the other angel, “that was the visit. That was when the Son of Glory, our great Prince, went to earth to become a man.” Quickly the light dimmed and in a short while all went black. “What happened?” the little angel said, The older angel replied, “They did not understand Him. They refused Him. So they killed Him. But watch carefully now.” Suddenly a flash came, so bright that the little angel was almost blinded, he said, “What was that?” “That was the resurrection. You see, He rose again from the dead, and He ascended into heaven. That is why He is here in glory now.” The senior angel paused a moment and then continued. “Now watch carefully, little angel, and you will see something interesting.” And sure enough another bright flash occurred. “That was the Holy Spirit’s coming at Pentecost,” he said. Following that brief flash little lights began appearing here and there all over that little ball. The elder angel said, “That is the gospel being brought by the witnesses to the various parts of the world. Wherever people receive our Prince as their Savior the lights come on.” At which the junior angel asked, “Will all the lights join together? When will it all become one big light?” The older angel said, “That is not for us to know. That is in the Father’s good knowledge; only He knows. But one day when the Prince returns to that planet again, it will become light forever.” May the blessings of Christmas be with you and yours during this Holy Season. Christ is Born! Glorify Him! Fr. Daniel Pastor ————————CLIP HERE———————— Fr. Daniel: I (we) would like you to come and bless my (our) home if possible this year during the Theophany (Jordan) Season. (2016) PLEASE PRINT NAME:_________________________________________________ ADDRESS:______________________________________________ CITY:_________________________________ ZIP:______________ TELEPHONE:____________________________ Fr. Dan will try to call to arrange a convenient time. THE BIRTHDAY OF THE SAVIOR Christ is being born today Christ is being born today in the world, and we are as con- fused as people were in the centuries before Christ’s birth, who had lost faith in that which they had worshiped and they did not know what else to seek. We however do not need to search something more. Only God, the living God, who became man, who is one of us, nearby and beloved to us, can dissolve the dizziness and the despair both of the individual soul as well as of today’s human condition. So let us go near Him with trust, let us approach Him with the realization that he did not stand far from the tortures and the afflictions of the earth: He is among us. +Metropolitan Anhony of Sourozh (Great Britain) We all know family members, friends, neighbors, co-work- ers, or school friends, who are Catholic and no longer at- tend The Church of Christ because of so many scandals.. Christmas is a great time to invite them to come home to the Church. Remind them that those causing Our Lord to weep for His church are to be stood up against so that Satan can be defeated. Think about it, pray about it, and invite someone to come to Church with you during the Christmas Season.

A Christmas Carol is a cool idea for a play, I like the message that it spreads about how being mean and grouchy can affect other people. The play was longer than I expected and the acting was good. My favorite character was Scrooge, I thought that he was funny and he made the play entertaining. I thought that everyone did a great job in the play, and the extras were very good as well.

Rector….. The child grew under their care And soon became a man He spread Good News & healed the sick & became a legend throughout the land. Fr. Marty Zlatic LEGEND Many saints then followed in his way And legends they too became Their deeds too great to remember all The origin of “legend” But we know many by name So its etymology states Is a story to be read in church And so we gather and give thanks On saints’ feasts and special dates. For the legends within our midst The faithful whose virtues for our youth But over time we’ve come to see Are also too numerous to list. A legend in the book of life’s pages Is a person whose virtues are so great For patience, wisdom, and concern, They magnify through the ages. For faith, for hope, for joy, For servant’s hearts, for smiling faces The stories that surround us For teens and girls and boys. At this Advent time of year Are full of many legends We thank you for legends gathered here That are wonderful to hear. With hope when our youth are grown & gone That one day they’ll too be legends How Zechariah and Elizabeth And the story will live on.

ADVENT LUTHERAN WYCKOFF Nativity of Our Lord: Christmas Day ● December 25, 2019 Isaiah 9:2-7 • Psalm 96 • Titus 2:11-14 • Luke 2:1-20 Imagine that you were alive some nineteen hundred years ago, hearing of Jesus for the first time through St. John’s gospel. What would you notice? What you would find surprising? Perhaps, most obviously, you’d notice that John’s story of Jesus doesn’t start with Jesus. It begins at the very beginning. Not the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. Not at the beginning of Jesus’ life. But at the beginning with a capital B. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Before humanity, before creation, before time, was the Word. For John, the Word is not simply a sound or a series of letters, but a structure, a system, an order. As long as God has been God, God has had an intention, a purpose, that undergirds and supports all of creation And that intention, that purpose that John calls the Word is to create, to love, to sustain, and to be in relationship. “All things,” John writes, “came into being through him.” Meaning time, creation, and humanity have always carried the design of God’s great love. God has always created, spoken, active through that Word. This Word was not born two thousand years ago and placed in a manger in Bethlehem. It has always been woven into our story. John starts at the beginning, because he wants us to understand that when Abraham and Sarah were grafted into God’s covenant, it was the Word of God that brought them hope.

Holiday greetings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 11/15/10 12:15 AM Holiday greetings From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Holiday greetings are a selection of greetings that are often spoken with good intentions to strangers, family, or friends, in nations around the world, during the months of December and January. Holidays with greetings include Christmas, New Year's Day, Chinese New Year, Thanksgiving (United States), and Hanukkah. Some greetings are more prevalent than others, depending on the cultural and religious status of any given area. Typically, a greeting consists of the word "Happy" followed by the holiday, such as "Happy Eid", "Happy Hanukkah", or "Happy New Year", although the phrase "Merry Christmas" is a notable exception. In the United States, the collective phrase "Happy Holidays" is often used as a generic cover-all greeting for all of the Winter holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Controversy has arisen in the U.S regarding its usage of the phrase "Happy Holidays", as an alleged attempt to diminish the Christian elements of Christmas, although its use promotes other holidays commonly celebrated there. Clarence Li Sacristan: Amelia Foster Music: Katherine Hume & St. Hilda’s Choir Greeters/Usher: Eric Paetkau, David Moul Readers Heather Rankin Altar Guild: Liz Miller, Linda Kern Christmas Message from the Rector As you gaze into the nativity scene this year, what do you see? And more poignantly, what do we NOT SEE? St. Hilda's held our first Posada on the windiest day of the year last week. This walking pilgrimage, which originates from Latin America, reenacts the journey of Mary and Joseph seeking a welcoming place to give birth to their first child, a child of promise to a bewildered young couple living in a turbulent time. We had about a dozen parishioners, friends, and strangers walking alongside a very pregnant Mary and her betrothed husband Joseph from the Sechelt Shelter to our church. We knocked on the doors of a homeless shelter, a refugee family, a dental office, a motel, a fire hall, a library and crashed a few homes and a Christmas party asking if people had a place for Mary to have her baby. When we made our way back to the church, we sat down to reflect on the experience. Nick, the Shelter Manager, gave us a reality check that shelter staff have to frequently say no to people seeking a roof over their head be- cause the shelter has been operating in full capacity since Day 1.

  • Christmas 2020 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, This Advent And
A A child is born to us, a son is given to us, and Christmas 2020 authority will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God Eternal Father, Prince of Peace, and authority will be on his shoulders. Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, . This Advent and Christmas season is like none other than we have experienced in our lives nor our faith community. Yet we come together in hope, trust, grace and love awaiting in a new way to celebrate the inbreaking of Immanuel, in Jesus, the Christ. Knowing that we cannot be together in person to sing and lift the light of Christ, we have made song and light our focal point being led by the words of a Jewish poet during the Holocaust, “I believe in the sun, even when it is not shining.” While we have not been able to gather in person to worship, our faith community has gathered with hope and faith to serve those who are most vulnerable with food, hygiene items, some donated clothing, your donations. Many in the Oakland community and beyond (from as far away as Concord) have joined us to serve the unsheltered, poorest families with children, and seniors. Our service to the lost, last and least have been a beacon of God’s justice to those new volunteers and to the most vulnerable. Thanks be to God! This year our Christmas offering is for the folks of one of those particular ministries: Our Connectional Ministries Lake Lunches program clothing needs of socks, hats & mittens.
