12/9/13 Are You Giving/Able to Give Christmas Bonuses This Year?
12/9/13 Are you giving/able to give Christmas bonuses this year? If so, how much? NOTE: Many PHAs are under the impression that bonuses are illegal. This belief is reflected in a couple of the responses we received. Actually, there is nothing in the federal law, HUD or other regulations that prohibits PHAs from paying bonuses. In fact, several years ago when HUD revised the ACC Part 2, they specifically removed all mention of personnel practices other than the Fair Labor Standards Practices Act and the HUD wage rate. However, if you decide to give bonuses, you must be sure that you have the funds to cover them, you are not slighting other financial needs at the PHA by doing so, the practice is covered in your personnel policy and you budget for them and have board approval. ------------- Does not include responses from those who said "no". **** Yes, we did. They are based on years of service. We issue an incentive check and do so during the week of Thanksgiving so everyone can do their Christmas shopping during the Black Friday events. $200 to $600 *** We do not give Christmas bonuses. However, we did have a stellar year in 2013, so will be giving a 5% raise to our employees instead of the customary 3%. We are giving out almost $10,000 in Christmas gifts to our residents thanks to our partnerships. *** We don't give bonuses, we give two extra days off at Christmas. *** No, We gave 3% pay increases to all employees except the Executive Director *** We have never given Christmas bonuses. -

A Christmas Carol is a cool idea for a play, I like the message that it spreads about how being mean and grouchy can affect other people. The play was longer than I expected and the acting was good. My favorite character was Scrooge, I thought that he was funny and he made the play entertaining. I thought that everyone did a great job in the play, and the extras were very good as well. -

Santa Claus (also known as Saint Nicholas, Saint Nick, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, Santy or simply Santa) is a folklore figure in various cultures who distributes gifts to children, normally on Christmas Eve . Each name is a variation of Saint Nicholas , but refers to Santa Claus. In today's North American, European and worldwide celebration of Christmas, people young and old simply refer to the hero of the season as Santa , or Santa Claus. (Wikipedia) Conventionally, Santa Claus is portrayed as a kindly, round-bellied, merry, bespectacled white man in a red coat trimmed with white fur, with a long white beard . On Christmas Eve, he rides in his sleigh pulled by flying reindeer from house to house to give presents to children. To enter the house, Santa Claus comes down the chimney and exits through the fireplace . During the rest of the year he lives together with his wife Mrs. Claus and his elves manufacturing toys . Some modern depictions of Santa (often in advertising and popular entertainment) will show the elves and Santa's workshop as more of a processing and distribution facility, ordering and receiving the toys from various toy manufacturers from across the world. -

Sermon for 12-24-18 Gospel -- Luke 2:1-20 the Rev. Maggie Leidheiser-Stoddard Christ Episcopal Church, Springfield OH
Sermon for 12-24-18 Gospel -- Luke 2:1-20 The Rev. Maggie Leidheiser-Stoddard Christ Episcopal Church, Springfield OH This is a tale of three Christmases. Or three Christmas Eves, actually. The first is in the year 1818, in a town called Oberndorf, just outside Salzburg, Austria. A young priest named Joseph Mohr planned a special ending to the Christmas Eve mass at St. Nicholas parish, where he had served for about a year. Shortly before Christmas, a winter flood had caused major damage to the church and wreaked havoc on the organ. There was no way the instrument would be repaired in time for Christmas Eve. Mohr had the text of a poem he'd written two years earlier about the night of Christ's birth, and he asked his friend Franz Gruber, the organist at a neighboring church, to set his poem to music. So Gruber, his organist friend, composed a tune for Mohr to play on the guitar alongside his little choir. Something simple and singable; Mohr wanted it to sound like a lullaby. Gruber wrote the music in a single afternoon, and the sweet song that made its debut with just a few voices and a priest strumming his guitar on that Christmas Eve night in 1818 has now been translated into 140 languages. And the little church outside Salzburg with the broken organ has become a tourist attraction, a sort of Christmas pilgrimage site, 200 years later. It's now known as the Silent Night Chapel, the place where one of the world's most beloved carols was born.i ii +++ +++ +++ That's the first Christmas Eve. -

Advent Lutheran Wyckoff
ADVENT LUTHERAN WYCKOFF Nativity of Our Lord: Christmas Day ● December 25, 2019 Isaiah 9:2-7 • Psalm 96 • Titus 2:11-14 • Luke 2:1-20 Imagine that you were alive some nineteen hundred years ago, hearing of Jesus for the first time through St. John’s gospel. What would you notice? What you would find surprising? Perhaps, most obviously, you’d notice that John’s story of Jesus doesn’t start with Jesus. It begins at the very beginning. Not the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. Not at the beginning of Jesus’ life. But at the beginning with a capital B. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Before humanity, before creation, before time, was the Word. For John, the Word is not simply a sound or a series of letters, but a structure, a system, an order. As long as God has been God, God has had an intention, a purpose, that undergirds and supports all of creation And that intention, that purpose that John calls the Word is to create, to love, to sustain, and to be in relationship. “All things,” John writes, “came into being through him.” Meaning time, creation, and humanity have always carried the design of God’s great love. God has always created, spoken, active through that Word. This Word was not born two thousand years ago and placed in a manger in Bethlehem. It has always been woven into our story. John starts at the beginning, because he wants us to understand that when Abraham and Sarah were grafted into God’s covenant, it was the Word of God that brought them hope. -

Holiday greetings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 11/15/10 12:15 AM Holiday greetings From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Holiday greetings are a selection of greetings that are often spoken with good intentions to strangers, family, or friends, in nations around the world, during the months of December and January. Holidays with greetings include Christmas, New Year's Day, Chinese New Year, Thanksgiving (United States), and Hanukkah. Some greetings are more prevalent than others, depending on the cultural and religious status of any given area. Typically, a greeting consists of the word "Happy" followed by the holiday, such as "Happy Eid", "Happy Hanukkah", or "Happy New Year", although the phrase "Merry Christmas" is a notable exception. In the United States, the collective phrase "Happy Holidays" is often used as a generic cover-all greeting for all of the Winter holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Controversy has arisen in the U.S regarding its usage of the phrase "Happy Holidays", as an alleged attempt to diminish the Christian elements of Christmas, although its use promotes other holidays commonly celebrated there. Christmas Eve Candlelight Eucharist
St Hilda’s By-the-Sea Anglican Open Doors ∙ Open Hearts ∙ Open Minds December 24, 2018 10:00 pm Christmas Eve Candlelight Eucharist Celebrant & Preacher: The Rev. Clarence Li Sacristan: Amelia Foster Music: Katherine Hume & St. Hilda’s Choir Greeters/Usher: Eric Paetkau, David Moul Readers Heather Rankin Altar Guild: Liz Miller, Linda Kern Christmas Message from the Rector As you gaze into the nativity scene this year, what do you see? And more poignantly, what do we NOT SEE? St. Hilda's held our first Posada on the windiest day of the year last week. This walking pilgrimage, which originates from Latin America, reenacts the journey of Mary and Joseph seeking a welcoming place to give birth to their first child, a child of promise to a bewildered young couple living in a turbulent time. We had about a dozen parishioners, friends, and strangers walking alongside a very pregnant Mary and her betrothed husband Joseph from the Sechelt Shelter to our church. We knocked on the doors of a homeless shelter, a refugee family, a dental office, a motel, a fire hall, a library and crashed a few homes and a Christmas party asking if people had a place for Mary to have her baby. When we made our way back to the church, we sat down to reflect on the experience. Nick, the Shelter Manager, gave us a reality check that shelter staff have to frequently say no to people seeking a roof over their head be- cause the shelter has been operating in full capacity since Day 1.
