I am grateful for the opportunity to send greetings from the Association of Moving Image Archivist members and to wish you a wonderful and successful conference. AMIA has the highest regards on your organization, and what you have accomplished over the years and what you will be accomplishing at this year's conference in Bangkok, AV Archiving Beyond Boundaries. It is my greatest wish for our field. We look forward to many years of cooperation and friendship as we continue to erase those boundaries. Fondest wishes for the SouthEast Asia-Pacific Audiovisual Archive Association (SEAPAVAA) Registered Address: 1 Scotts Road, #24-10, Shaw Centre, Singapore 228208 Unique Entity Number: T14SS0070L Secretariat Address: c/o UP School of Library and Information Studies, Quirino Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines 1101 Email: [email protected] Website: http://www.seapavaa.net Page 3 of 23 22nd SEAPAVAA Conference. Dennis Doros, President of Association of Moving Image Archivists.” 00:06:53.8 Irene Lim: The second message or greeting is from the CCAAA Chair, Rachael Stoeltje, I met her during the conference. And this is a message of greeting for the SEAPAVAA membership. “Dear SEAPAVAA members. As the 22nd Annual SEAPAVAA Conference approaches, I am especially pleased by the conference's theme of AV Archiving Beyond Boundaries. In my current rule as chair of the CCAAA, I have been especially committed to building bridges and working more collaboratively across all of our organizations and crossing boundaries across all areas of our audiovisual archiving fields as we are finding facing similar issues facing us all. In particular, in my next few years in the role as chair of CCAAA representing the seven international AV professional organizations, I hope to concentrate efforts on working more cohesively on training and outreach and disaster preparedness and response in particular. Next year, we will also host a joint technical symposium. The conference that has perpetually served to bring the most current and crucial technical topics of our field together and to the forefront of discussion. In my involvement with the CCAAA for the past four years, I have been especially fortunate to work with both the current President of SEAPAVAA, Ms. Irene Lim, that is myself, and past President Mick Newnham on the variety of projects, conferences, and initiatives. I very much look forward to continuing to work with SEAPAVAA and its members moving in the future in my role as CCAAA Chair and as FIAF Chair of the Training & Outreach Programme. I am delighted to be able to attend your conference next month and I am greatly honored to be able to participate as well this year. Best wishes on an excellent conference filled with productive and useful discourse and papers. Racheal Stoeltje, Chair, CCAAA and also representing FIAT which is the International Federation of Film Archives.” 00:09:12.8 Irene Lim: Okay, the next greeting is from the Federation-- International Federation of Television Archives. The Secretary General was here this year SouthEast Asia-Pacific Audiovisual Archive Association (SEAPAVAA) Registered Address: 1 Scotts Road, #24-10, Shaw Centre, Singapore 228208 Unique Entity Number: T14SS0070L Secretariat Address: c/o UP School of Library and Information Studies, Quirino Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines 1101 Email: [email protected] Website: http://www.seapavaa.net Page 4 of 23 at the conference. “Dear colleagues of the SEAPAVAA, dear SEAPAVAA members, dear participants, dear colleagues, dear friends. On behalf of FIAT/IFTA, the International Federation of Television Archives, I bring to all gathered in the beautiful city of Bangkok, a message of friendship and collegial solidarity and the start of the 22nd edition of your annual conference. At the time of significant change for those leading and working in our domain of audiovisual archiving, it is our strong conviction that collaboration and partnership are the keys to overcoming the challenges we face and to ensure our domain benefits from the opportunities being presented. The theme of your conference AV Archiving Beyond Boundaries echoes this way of openness and collaboration. The strength in coming together at these conferences is to provide key opportunities for learning, networking, and developing strategies together. Indeed, collaboration is not only necessary beyond geographical boundaries but also beyond those media, organizations and sectors. Archival materials coming from the traditional rolls of film, television, and radio sector, and artists are confronted with the same issues. Carrier degradation and playback obsolescence are the ones we are confronted with on the daily basis while the next challenges of visual preservation are already on the doorstep. Neither can we forget the wider social economic, and political tendencies of the merging of the media and the increasing pressure on the old school archival values of authenticity and reliability. That is why FIAT/IFTA is delighted to reinforce this connections with SEAPAVAA at your conference where our organization is represented by our Secretary General. Furthermore, we have agreed together to join forces in the organization of a special workshop at the start of the 2019 edition of the SEAPAVAA Conference which shall take place next year and we will take about it later in the afternoon. Needless to say, we particularly look forward to this occasion to meet again, to exchange our knowledge, and to contribute to the progress in our field and to live up to the spirit of moving beyond boundaries, but that is all for next year.
