6 7 8 Tonight as our curtain raiser we have two of our U/14 Thrifty Rush teams, playing in a fully timed practice match, as they both plan for some exciting weeks ahead.

Our U/14 Rush BLUE made a clean sweep of Basketball Vic Country Champs in April this year, winning 9 from 9 over a three day event in Ballarat and taking out the Division 1 title. This qualified them for U/14 National Club Championships in October at Dandenong this year. The girls are currently playing in Victoria Championship Reserve in VJBL on Friday nights with great success, having 12 wins and 5 losses for the season and remaining on top of the ladder. Meanwhile our U/14 Rush GOLD team made it to the Preliminary final at the Bendigo tournament this year before getting knocked out to the eventual winners in Wangaratta. The girls currently playing in VJBL 4 holding their own with 10 wins and 8 losses and looking forward to a big finals series.

16 17 GMHBA Miners Coach’s Message

Eric Hayes —Head Coach GMHBA Ballarat Miners

Welcome to the SEABL SOUTH CONFERENCE FINAL, we are very excited to be playing in front of our home crowd The Rangers are playing some very good basketball after a close win over NWT at home and then a big win away against Hobart last week. They have really put up some very high scores in recent weeks as their players have really been playing well individually and as a team. Their 2 imports Jackson and Orr have been very solid for this team as they are hard workers and very good scorers. Barker is doing a great job of running the team and getting all the players involved in the action on the offensive end. Lang is their starting big and he has been a big presence around the basket but he can also shoot the ball well from the perimeter. Oswald is just a solid all round player that can shoot the ball well and also get to the basket with nice drives and cuts. Off the bench they also get some great impact from Paige, a nice athlete and shooter, Von Hof an excellent shooter, Gibcus is a hard worker around the basket, Soukop is a ball handler and good decision maker and Riley a solid role play- er. For the Miners today we have worked hard from preseason for this opportunity and the players have done a great job buying into the process which includes working on strength and conditioning each week, extra shooting and skill work each week, work in the community each week, eating well and looking after themselves plus our weekly training sessions. Each player has done a fantastic job preparing each week which has given us this great opportunity. Two weeks ago we came up against a very strong Chargers team and we were able to do enough to come up with a very important win. This week we are without Craig Moller and we have had a few other hurdles but the extra work and commitment from the players all season has prepared us well to deal with the challenge ahead with the Rangers. All the players are ready to go out and compete at the highest level today to give us the best chance for a positive result. We have a sold-out stadium today so make sure you make some noise to support our boys and help them lift and play a great game. I would like to say thank you to everyone today for supporting us all year. This is what we have all been working for so let’s come together and really show that “MINER PRIDE”. Let’s go Miners let’s Go! Coach Hayes
