This year’s RHS Flower Show Cardiff, supported by Riviera Travel, once again returns to the city’s from 15–17 April.

At last year’s record-breaking show, 25,800 visitors descended on the decorated showground, attracting everyone from keen gardeners and floral enthusiasts to families in search of a fun day out.

A key theme of this year’s show will be the celebration of Roald Dahl to mark 100 years since the famous author was born in Llandaff. The Wonderful World of Roald Dahl will see some of his best-loved characters brought to life in floral form including a fantastical garden inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a 12ft BFG sculpture made of willow and ‘Golden Ticket Family Trail’ around the showground.

The show also aims to raise awareness of the benefits that gardening can have on people’s health and happiness with several features at the show exploring this theme. There will be an edible kitchen garden by Grow Cardiff promoting healthy eating and encouraging people to grow their own vegetables, herbs and fruit. Demonstrations throughout the weekend will also give tips on healthy food that you can grow yourself at home.

Marking the start of the RHS outdoor show season, the RHS Flower Show Cardiff will include elements aimed at encouraging visitors to embrace the great outdoors after the long winter months, and will demonstrate how everyone can make the most of their outdoor living space. There will also be plenty to get involved in such as den-building workshops, fossil hunting with the National Museum Wales, foraging, tree climbing, floristry and willow-weaving workshops.

Visitors will be able to browse the wide range of garden products on offer in the Floral Marquee and Plant Village as well as sample delicious artisan produce and purchase gifts from the craft market. The popular RHS talks theatre hosted by television personality Toby Buckland will return with a packed programme of talks and demonstrations. There will also be live music and entertainment to enjoy throughout the weekend.

Spring 2016 | 13 Our best pick for this year’s show...

If you’re heading to the show, we highly recommend checking out the enchanting show garden ‘The Physicians of Myddfai’s Magical Medical Garden’.

Based on an ancient Welsh legend which tells of a dynasty of pioneering herbalists from the West Wales village of Myddfai, the garden will see botanical plants painted on the walls alongside trees, herbs and other ingredients found in the original Physicians’ recipe books.

The archaic garden will be created by pupils from Heronsbridge School and Ysgol Bryn Castell in Bridgend alongside their teacher, and garden designer, Anthea Guthrie.

ONE OF THE MOST EAGERLY AWAITED EVENTS OF THE BRITISH MOTORSPORT CALENDAR

The Adrian Flux British FIM Speedway Grand Prix will return to Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Saturday 9th July and we’ve got a pair of tickets to give away.

Tens of thousands of Speedway fans from all over the world flocked to the Welsh capital last year to witness Niels-Kristian Iversen’s spectacular final triumph ahead of Chris Holder and Peter Kildemand. But none could stop Britain’s Tai Woffinden from claiming the World Champion title for the second time.

Tai will return this year in a bid to become only the second British rider to win in front of home fans after Chris Harris’ triumph at the stadium in 2007.

The event - which sees riders reaching 70mph on 500cc bikes with no brakes - never fails to set pulses racing and induce some heart stopping moments for stadium spectators; both super fans and families alike.

The July 9th fun will begin during the day in the Fanzone in the city centre and the Adrian Flux British FIM Speedway Grand Prix will start at 5pm, finishing with its popular firework display.

We’ve teamed up with the 2016 British FIM Speedway Grand Prix organisers to give you the chance to enjoy this afternoon of nonstop sporting action and all you have to do to put yourself in the running is answer this simple question:

Q: Who is the current Speedway World Champion?

Send your answer, along with your name, address, daytime telephone number and email address to:

Spring 2016 | 55 NOW IS THE BEST TIME TO SELL YOUR HOME.

56 | Spring 2016 Dispelling the common thought that the summer is the best time to sell your home, spring is actually the prime time to get your property valued and start your house selling journey.

The weather is on your side - normally! Flowers are starting to bloom, lawns can once again be mowed and gardens are beginning to look their most attractive. The days are getting longer meaning houses are lighter which emphasises the best qualities of your home. Buyers are more likely to go on viewings after work in the spring when it’s not dark and gloomy and all you want to do is curl up on the sofa.

A popular reason for moving is to be nearer schools, and hitting the market in April or May allows a healthy amount of time to sell up, buy and move in all ready for the start of term in September.

And the good news, for both sellers and buyers, is the more people selling, the more people buying. A wider choice of properties on the market means a higher chance of finding your dream home, and on the other side, increased competition means you’re more likely to achieve your sale price.

So now really is the perfect ‘Time to be Valued’!

A brand new bar and kitchen, situated in Greyfriars Road, serves over 80 beers from 20 countries worldwide, and concocts the perfect dishes to complement each beverage.

Nathan Gee, director for Barley & Rye, explains all about Cardiff’s latest offering:

Congratulations on opening up - the concept of creating meals that go with your speciality beers sounds great. Tell us more about it...

The concept was born through our passion for high quality food and beer. Our head chef, Gareth, being born and bred in Cardiff, wanted to come back to his home town having worked under Michel Roux Jr. and Gordon Ramsey and two Michelin star restaurants in London.

He wanted to give his home town a taste of what he has learned by providing a unique food and beer matching restaurant that has the food quality of a Michelin restaurant, but the relaxed atmosphere of an upmarket bar. Cardiff has a discerning palate when it comes to food and drink. We have provided a locally sourced menu that is of the highest quality and matched it with beers from around the world which has hopefully added something special to Cardiff’s already thriving food and beverage scene.
