I am Delighted to be able to invite you, your officials and your athletes to the 2017 WAKO Junior and Cadet European Kickboxing Championships in Point Fighting, Light Contact, Kick Light, Low Kick, K1 Rules, Full Contact and Musical Forms. From 2nd to 10th September 2017, being held in Skopje, FYRO Macedonia. I am personally engaged in the organising and securing of the event along with a strong and experienced WAKO Europe organising committee to ensure your experience at these championships will be an enjoyable one. I can assure you I and my team have closely monitored the situation in FYROM and we are fully confident all is fine in the region and it will be successful championships.

In the following pages we have inserted all information you need in order to make your reservations, book your flights, and enter your competitors in the Championships. To participate in the championships all officials, coaches, support staff, parents and fighters must register their accommodation directly with the local organising committed as part of the official package.

Please take particular note that ALL Coaches must be registered in Sportdata to attend and function as a coach, further information will be sent out by WAKO IF in the coming days, but this will be STRICTLEY managed, not registered on Sportdata you will be unable to coach during the week.

The General Assembly of WAKO Europe will also take place during the championships, further information will be sent to you in the coming weeks.

On behalf of the WAKO IF, it is my pleasure and great honor to invite you and your team to take part in WAKO Cadet and Junior European championships, which will be held in Skopje, Macedonia, from 2nd to 10th September, 2017. Kickboxing federation of Macedonia, leaded by Mr Dejan Mitrovski Urko, has done all necessary preparations and they are ready to promote another great WAKO Event. Despite the political difficulties that Macedonia is facing with in last few months, I can assure you that Skopje is beautiful and peaceful city well know by its hospitality and warm welcoming to all visitors. Welcome to Skopje and enjoy your stay!

Skopje, the capital of fyroMacedonia, is situated in central Balkans, on the crossroads of the horizontal and vertical road transversal on this peninsula. With all of its perfections and flaws, Skopje is a city like no other. We are proud of the city with inexhaustible energy. The city that almost never sleeps. The wonderful squares, the biggest monument on the Balkan Peninsula, the City Park, Vodno and Matka, the Vrelo caves, the way Vardar cuts it in half, the Millennium cross, the Old town bazaar, the Kale fortress …, all of these represent a certain period and tell a different story of the capital city of the land of the sun. What gives the unique charm of Skopje, the capital of the Republic of fyroMacedonia, is the mixture of old and new. Its modern architecture makes an interesting contrast to the old spirit, felt in the old part of the town. Skopje is a place where many roads and civilizations have met and mingled.

Stone Bridge

Stone Bridge, the symbol of the city, connects the two banks of the river Vardar. It is the most direct link between the old and the new part of the city. According to some Turkish sources, the bridge was built in the second half of the 15th century, during the rule of Sultan Mehmed II, but the latest research from 1990 shows that it was built of well processed stone blocks during the rule of Tsar Justinian. This bridge is in the centre of the city and stands as a symbol of the inevitable connection between the old and new tradition.

Old Bazaar Skopje’s old Bazaar has existed for more than 1,000years. Some of its buildings suffered severe damage in the 1963 earthquake. It comprises buildings dating from different periods and cultures: churches, mosques, inns, baths, a bezisten (covered bazaar), many craftsmen’s shops, old buildings, and small shops with displayed goods on the streets. Once there, you will be charmed by the spirit of the Orient.

Bezisten The object has four gates, each facing a different side of the world. Three alleys enable free movement within the entire inner space, which comprises two separate buildings. Initially, it was a place where linens were sold. Its name was derived from the Arabic word "buzz" meaning linen, and the Persian word "is tan" meaning place for selling goods. According to the inscription on the east gate, the Bezisten was built in 1445 by Ishak Bey and renovated in 1899. Skopje Bezisten is covered with six domes and bears resemblance to the bezistens in Bursa, Sarajevo, Thessaloniki, Seres, Beyshehir.

Kapan An

The name “kapan” is derived from the Arabic word "kabban" meaning big scale. Kapan An was built in the 15th century by Isa Bey, the son of Ishak Bey. It was constantly damaged over the years: in the earthquake of 1555, in the fire of 1689, and in the 1963 earthquake. Built during the Ottoman period, the inn had 24 rooms, which mainly accommodated Muslim travelers. Therefore, there was a bath at one of the entrances where the guests went to wash their bodies before going to pray in the mosque located next to the other entrance.

Skopje Aqueduct

The old aqueduct, built of brick and stone, is located at the end of the Skopje-Kacanik highway and is a monument from the 6th century AD. It supplied the city of Skupi with water from Mount Skopska Crna Gora. Some archaeologists assume that it had 200 arches, 50 of which still remain.

The Roman settlement SKUPI

Near the Zlokukjani district, one can see the ruins of the Roman settlement SKUPI. The town was located on an important crossroads connecting the Aegean Sea with the Danube region and the Adriatic Sea with Thrace. According to historical data, after the Milan Edict of 313AD Skupi became the seat of the diocese and after 415AD of the archdiocese. Throughout the history, Skupi was often attacked by various barbarian tribes, namely by the Goths in 268 AD and the Huns in the 4th century. Like many other towns in the Balkans, Skupi was flattened by disastrous earthquakes. After the most ravaging one, the town almost completely died out and its citizens, who were evacuated and saved, chose another location to build their new town. The town had a rectangular shape and covered a surface of 40 hectares. Also to see in Skupi: the Basilicas; the Theatre; the Palace

Skopje Fortress – Kale

Kale (Turkish for fortress) had its first walls built on the very same place in the beginning of the 6th century. Archaeological digs have shown that back then materials were taken from the town of Skupi, which was ravished by the 518 earthquake, to build the basis of the fortress. Nowadays the fortress is a remarkable park promenade, with landscaped pathways.

The Millennium Cross

The Millennium Cross is a 66 meter-high cross situated on the top of the Vodno Mountain in Skopje. It was constructed to serve as a memorial of 2,000 years of Christianity in fyroMacedonia and the world. The construction of the cross began in 2002 and was funded by the Macedonian Orthodox Church, the government and donations from Macedonians from all over the world. The cross was built on the highest point of the Vodno Mountain on a place known since the time of the Ottoman Empire as "Krstovar", meaning "Place of the cross", as there was a smaller cross situated there. On 8 September 2008, the independence day of the fyroMacedonia, an elevator was installed inside the cross. In 2009, a restaurant and a souvenir shop were opened next to the cross. In 2011 the Millennium Cross ropeway was opened. The ropeway is three and a half km long. At night the cross shines down over the city.

Memorial House of Mother Teresa The desire to pay respect to one the most famous person and Nobel Prize winner from Skopje was accomplished on the 30-th of January 2009 with the opening of the Memorial house dedicated to Mother Teresa. The Memorial house of Mother Teresa is nonprofit organization financed by the Government of fyroMacedonia. The Location of the museum is not randomly chosen. That is to say, on this exact place the old Catholic Church “Sacred heart of Jesus” used to stand. It is where Mother Teresa, then Gonxha Bojaxhiu was baptized just one day after her birth, on the 27th of august 1910, place where she received her first communion and where she find her inner peace after her father’s death. This place had a great importance and influence on developing of the character of young Gonxha and to her desire to help the poor people. Since she was a child she sang in the Catholic Church choir and participated in charity organizations. Somehow the location itself represents a symbolic bridge that connects little Gonxha to one of the greatest humanitarian of the world, Mother Teresa.

St. Kliment Ohridski Church - Ministry Temple

The construction of the Macedonian Orthodox cathedral church, designed by Slavko Brezovski, began in 1972 and was consecrated on 12 August 1990, on the 1,150th anniversary of the birth of the church patron, St. Clement of Ohrid. This rotunda type church, with 36mx36m dimension, composed only of domes and arches, is one of the most interesting architectural examples in recent history. The church was dedicated to St. Clement of Ohrid, and the church below to the holy Mother .One of the chapels was dedicated to Emperor Constantine and Empress Elena, and the other to St. Mina, the martyr. The icons in the iconostasis were painted by Gjorgji Danevski and Spase Spirovski and the frescoes were painted by academic painter Jovan Petrov and his collaborators.

St. Spas - Church of the Holy Saviour

Today’s church, built in the beginning of the 19th century, was based on old foundations dating from the 14th century. You would be amazed by the beauty of the 10m-long wood-carved iconostases, made by master wood carver Peter Filipovski-Garka, his brother Marko Filipovski, and Makarie Frckovski, who worked on the iconostasis from 1817 to 1824.The grave of the greatest revolutionary Goce Delcev is located in the churchyard and is placed on three small stone pillars symbolizing the three parts of divided fyroMacedonia.

Holy Mother of God Church

The first church of the Holy Mother in Skopje was built in 1204, but later it was completely destroyed in a fire. The reconstruction and consecration of the church were done in 1834 and 1835. A century later, on 7 April 1944 Bulgarian invaders set the church on fire, destroying the iconostasis and taking many valuable church items to Bulgaria. The church's reconstruction began on 2 October 2002, when Mister Mister, the Archbishop of Ohrid and Macedonia at that time, laid the first foundation stone of the new church on the place where the old church used to be.

St. Pantelejmon Church

This church, dedicated to St. Pantelejmon, is located in the village of Gorno Nerezi, half way up to Mt. Vodno and is built over foundations of an older church dating back to 1164. Most of the frescos in the church date from the 12th century, but there are some which date from the 19th century. The most beautiful fresco is the one depicting the lamenting of Christ. The church is surrounded by inns and a restaurant serving traditional food, overlooking the city of Skopje.

City Museum of Skopje

Built in 1940, the railway station was considered to be the most beautiful building at that time in the Balkans. The architect stressed the ornamented elements of the frieze and used details of the Byzantine tradition. It was designed with admixtures of modern configuration and Byzantine, romantic, and folklore designs. Above the main entrance door of the station is the clock, which stopped at 5.17 a.m., the moment when the catastrophic earthquake on the morning of 26 July 1963 struck and demolished the eastern wing of the station. In 1970, the premises of the railway station were converted into a museum and it has been the home of the Skopje City Museum ever since. It has an exhibition area of approximately 5,000 m2. In the year 2000, the permanent exhibition "Skopje - Prehistory Today" was installed, with 300 unique items.

Museum of Contemporary Art

The Museum of Contemporary Art, built in 1964, after the 1963 earthquake, represents a monument of human solidarity. The Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts, together with the Croatian Painters' Association and the International Association of Plastic Art of the Congress in New York addressed artists throughout the world to express their solidarity by donating some of their precious works to the museum. The international collection gathered through donations consists of 4,640 works of artists from 61 countries, including works by Hartung, Calder, Kemenia, Picasso, Vazarelli, Slage, Baya, Divier, Licenovski, Lazevski, Martinovski, Kondovski, Kodzoman, Grabulovski, and many other well-known artists. The museum building was a gift by Polish architects J. Moksinski, E. Vezbitski, and V. Klisevski and covers a surface of 5,428 m2.

Matka Canyon

The canyon of Matka covers an area of around 5,000 hectares and is located 15km southwest of Skopje. The karstic forms make for interesting scenery - 10 caves with lengths ranging between 20 and 176 meters and two vertical chasms with depths of up to 35 meters. Out of around 1,000 types of plants, 20 percent are endemic or relic species. It is also important to mention that there are 77 species of small butterflies endemic to the Balkans in the area of Matka Canyon, while 18 other species are new to the science.

INSURANCE

WAKO Europe, Kickboxing federation of Macedonia, The Organizing Committees and its agents and officers of the WAKO Junior Cadet European Championships 2017 will not be financially responsible for possible injuries caused during the competition. All competitors must have full personal accident and Fighter insurance coverage from their own organization / country. Each Country must ensure its members are adequately insured to compete and attend the championships. It is the responsibility of the Chief Delegate.

VISA

The organizing board has notified the Macedonian embassies and consulates about the European championship. If you require a visa you must turn to the Macedonian embassy or consulate in your country. In case any issues arise turn to the organizing board. ANTI-DOPING CONTROL

It is strictly forbidden to take any illegal stimulants that are against the rules of the WAKO Anti-doping regulations. The WAKO will have anti-doping tests on randomly chosen winners. Each athlete found positive by the test will be sanctioned according to the WAKO General Rules Anti-doping regulations.

FLAG AND NATIONAL ANTHEM

Each participating country must bring 2 (two) flags, size 90 x 130 cm and a CD with their national anthem. The flag and CD are handed in at registration and will be returned to each participant after the competition.

All participating countries need to manage their accommodation over the organizing committee. In case this rule is ignored, the country in question will not be allowed to participate on the championships. TRANSFER FROM /TO AIRPORT

Price for transfer from airport to hotel and back amounts to 20€ per person, per way.

To book your transfer please specify all details concerning number of passengers, date, place, time of arrival and departure on Appendix n. 5 that must be sent by e-mail to: [email protected] not later than 31st July 2017. You must use the form in the appendix.

ENTRY FEE

WAKO HQ shall receive an entry fee for each competing team and/or competitor: Euro 50,00 per person and per division – Euro 200,00 per team entry.

The total entry fee can be paid on the spot by the chief of delegation to the WAKO HQ authorized person in EURO CASH at the moment of the accreditation.

HEAD OF DELEGATION RESPONSIBILITY FORM

The hosts of the 2017Skopje - fyroMacedonia WAKO European Cadets and Juniors Championships greatly appreciate your interest, presence and co-operation in making this Event a successful and meaningful experience for all participants involved. The average participant in this Event is well mannered, well disciplined and very co-operative. Our greatest concerns are for the safety of the participants, and that at the completion of these Championships there will have been no incidents, which would reflect poorly on any individuals, teams, or organizations. We ask for your co-operation and responsibility toward these ends.

STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY

I recognize my responsibility for the entire behavior of the athletes of my team throughout their participation in the Skopje - fyroMacedonia WAKO European Cadets and Juniors Championships. These responsibilities begin at the time of their first arrival and conclude after their final departure from the Tournament, Tournament Site or other Site which might be related to their participation in this Event. This includes complete supervision while athletes are in their respective competition for the purpose of these Championships. I also recognize that discipline problems arise in the late evening after the conclusion of the competition, in the form of not obeying the quiet hours between 11:00 pm and 5:30 am, and especially on the last night of competition. I also recognize that the host committee, the Tournament Director, and the Staff at each competitive site will be available to help control discipline problems and make the Tournament enjoyable for all.

USE OF ALCOHOL AND DRUGS BY COMPETITORS IS PROHIBITED

State laws prohibit the use of alcohol by minors (under 18 years of age) and the possession or use of drugs. These laws will be strictly enforced by, team chaperon, and tournament officials. Any athlete found in violation of these laws may be subject to prosecution by law enforcement officers and they and their teammates will be immediately expelled from the Championship. The Head of Delegation assume responsibility for monitoring player conduct to ensure that drinking and drug use laws are upheld.

DAMAGE TO PLAYING SITES

Should damage occur at any site by a player, coach, chaperon, or even a competitor's parent the team responsible will be charged for the damages and the participant from this team will not be admitted to any Wako Championships. If the responsible individual/team cannot be determined then all teams participating at the site during the occurrence will be sanctioned from future Wako Championships. We feel it is the responsibility of all teams, competitors, coaches, and families to ensure that the site is free of any problems and damages. In addition the area of the arena your team occupies is to be free of trash when you leave your site. It is also requirement of all competition sites that ONLY WATER, IN PLASTIC CONTAINERS will be permitted inside the sport-hall. Violators will cause their team to be immediately disqualified and dismissed from the Championships.

ARENA CONDUCT

ATHLETES WILL ABIDE BY WAKO RULES REGARDING ARENA CONDUCT. At all times coaches, team, opponents, and officials will be treated with the utmost respect. Coaches must also assume full responsibility for enforcing arena conduct rules. Teams that fail to abide by these rules are subject to disciplinary action (e.g., DISMISSAL FROM THE EVENT).
