CLUBLAND- SET TO BE A HIT IN THE USA

Arts Minister Sartor says CLUBLAND is charming local audiences and is now the first Australian film ever to open to U.S audiences on the major July 4 Independence Day holiday.

PRODUCTION INVESTMENT ROUND 18 – EOI DEADLINE, JULY 16

The latest deadline for Expressions of Interest for this production round at the FTO is 10.00 am Monday, 16 July 2007.

Please advise the FTO via an EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (EOI) if intending to submit to this round.

NO APPLICATION FORM IS REQUIRED AT THIS STAGE. This is a preliminary EOI and should consist only of the following:

1. Applicant details including company and contact details. 2. The creative team and cast attached if any (max 1 page) 3. An extended synopsis of the project, and type of project (max 1 page) 4. Proposed Financing plan and Status of finance and proposed FTO amount requested (max 2 pages).

Once an EOI is received Project Officers will liaise with producers as the financing of their project develops. Only those projects able to demonstrate their finance readiness will be invited to progress formally into the round.

At this time, a formal application form along with usual submission materials will be required and assessment will proceed in the normal way.

Funding decisions will be made at the FTO Board meeting in September 2007.

STACKS OF FACTS – 07-08 EDITION DUE IN AUGUST

The next instalment of Stacks of Facts is currently being compiled and updated, with hard copies to be distributed early August.

Stacks of Facts is a directory prepared annually by the FTO for the film and television industry.

It outlines the contact details, filming policies, fee schedules and other important information of metropolitan and regional councils, government departments and various NSW locations.

Stacks of Facts is a free resource provided by the FTO’S Production Liaison Unit.

FILMING RESTRICTIONS DURING APEC 2007

General Notification to the Film and Television Industry concerning permitting during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, in , in September.

Following a meeting with organisers of APEC, the FTO would like to advise of the following information that may affect filming plans within the City of Sydney.

APEC runs from Sunday September 2 until Sunday September 9 2007, inclusive, with the main central city vehicle restriction for the Leaders Meetings on the dates of Friday 7, Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September.

The FTO has been advised by the following permitting authorities that no permits will be issued for filming activities between Sunday September 2 and Sunday 9 September:

Council for the City of Sydney Central City Traffic Surry Hills Traffic Police The Rocks Traffic Police RTA, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge

Aviation – there will be a 45 nautical mile restriction zone. Sydney Harbour – operating but with some restrictions. North Sydney Council – areas adjacent to the harbour will be restricted. Please liaise directly with the Council regarding areas and specific dates.

Some of these Authorities have advised that they are currently looking at a “no permitting” policy commencing the previous weekend (Saturday 25 August 2007) and not finishing until the weekend after (Sunday September 2007). This may change as details are clarified and will also depend on where you wish to film, but please be aware of the possibility of permission being denied or restricted during that time.

The Portable Film Festival has teamed with student and youth travel company, STA Travel, to offer the winner of its 'First Hand Capture' category, a Round the World airline ticket worth over $3000.

METRO SCREEN MULTICULTURAL MENTORSHIP SCHEME- ENTRIES DEADLINE AUG 3

The Multicultural Mentorship Scheme is open to people of diverse cultural and non-English speaking backgrounds that have a story to tell.

Four storytellers from NSW will be offered equipment, facilities hire, stock, post production facilities, and a $2,000 budget. In addition, each filmmaker will be mentored by an industry professional.

Applicants simply need a story or idea and the vision and commitment to make it into a five-minute screen story.

Applicants are selected on their idea, relevant skills and how the process will

INAUGURAL $25K KIT DENTON FELLOWSHIP – DEADLINE JULY 6

An initiative of the Australian Writers’ Foundation (AWF), the charitable arm of the Australian Writer’s Guild (AWG), the $25,000 Fellowship will reward courage and excellence in performance writing and allow a writer to develop a project over the coming year.

Kit Denton was a respected and admired member of the writing community; a lifetime member of the Australian Writers’ Guild, a scriptwriter, author, poet and lyricist. His most famous work was THE BREAKER, an international best selling novel about the trial and execution of Breaker Morant.

Applications for the Fellowship close 5.00pm Friday July 6 and will be presented at the 40th Annual AWGIE Awards in Sydney on August 31.

MIFF FORUM – 37 SOUTH – APPLICATIONS DEADLINE JULY 8

37 South: Bridging the Gap is an international forum event which takes place during the first few days of Melbourne’s International Film Festival July 26-28. The initiative was announced at this year’s Cannes festival, in May.

It’s aim is to bring together Australian feature film producers with international and Australian financing and marketing partners. Industry panels will include international sales agents and investors. There’ll also be round tables and informal networking, all at the Forum Theatre and ACMI.

DigiSPAA is an initiative designed to encourage digital feature film production. The SPAArtan award, awarded to the winning film is a $15,000 cash prize, $20,000 worth of post-production and a trip to the Rotterdam Cinemart international feature film market, plus a subscription TV screening.
