STREET CLOSURES ON JUNE 21: LAKERS PARADE ROUTE

LOS ANGELES (June 18, 2010) — The City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) has announced the closure of several streets in the Downtown Convention Center area on Monday, June 21st. The Lakers’ Celebration Parade, scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM at the Staples Center on South , will proceed approximately two miles toward the USC campus before turning east on Jefferson Boulevard at the .

The City anticipates closing Figueroa Street between Olympic Boulevard to the north and Jefferson Boulevard on the south beginning at midnight Sunday. Other road closures include Chick Hearn Court between Figueroa Street and Cherry Street; Cherry Street between Olympic and Pico Boulevards; Flower Street between Washington and Jefferson Boulevards; Jefferson Boulevard between Figueroa and Hoover Streets; and all intersections along the two-mile route as designated by the Los Angeles Police Department and Department of Transportation(see attached map.) LAPD and LADOT anticipate reopening major intersections along Figueroa Street as the parade commences, pending pedestrians in those areas having dispersed and other safety conditions being met.

“Congestion in the area is expected to be heavy during the morning commute hours. We request the public’s patience in using alternative routes and allowing additional travel time during this period” said LADOT General Manager Rita L. Robinson.
