The major exhibition on the history and culture of the Muslim world ‘14 Dynasties and a Region’ aims at introducing a rich cultural heritage that spans over a 1,000 years, from West Africa and the Iberian Peninsula to Southeast Asia and China. The exhibition focuses on 14 major dynasties that played a pivotal role in the formation of artistic styles and has left behind a legacy that is much admired today. On that memorable day, IAMM welcomed the Executive Director of the Tokyo National Museum, Mr Masami Zeniya, Yoichi Inoue, Vice Executive Director and Mr Jun Tomita, Director of Curatorial Planning, as part of high-ranking official delegation. Dr Heba Nayel Barakat, Head of IAMM Curatorial Affairs, had the opportunity to guide them around the museum and talk about the unique collection. The event led to the signing of a memorandum of cooperation, which endorsed a travelling exhibition from Malaysia to Japan with the declared theme of The exchange of copies of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia and the Tokyo National Museum “the arts and crafts of the Muslim world”. -

Frost, Jr. with the Beacon Award for his passionate service to the community, and featured Captain Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger, III as the keynote speaker. Proceeds from the event will benefit programs supported by the Foundation. The Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation supports the health and wellness of adults throughout south and central Texas by raising money for innovative programs and equipment for four general hospitals and regional health and wellness outreach programs in the San Antonio Medical Center, Westover Hills, Alamo Heights and New Braunfels. The National Speakers Luncheon celebrates the contributions of Frost by honoring him with the Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Beacon Award. Frost is chairman emeritus of Frost Bank and is the fourth generation of his family to oversee the bank founded by his great grandfather, Colonel T.C. Frost in 1868. He has a long history of community service, having served on the Board of Trustees for the San Antonio Medical Foundation, the Texas Research and Technology Foundation and Southwest Research Institute. He has served on executive committees, boards and initiatives for the San Antonio Livestock Exposition, the McNay Art Museum, the Free Trade Alliance and the YMCA, to name just a few. -

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BERRY CAMPBELL PRESENTS RAYMOND HENDLER: RAYMOND BY RAYMOND (PAINTINGS 1957-1967) NEW YORK, NEW YORK, June 29, 2021—Berry Campbell is pleased to announce its fourth exhibition of paintings by Raymond Hendler (1923-1998). Raymond Hendler: Raymond by Raymond (Paintings 1957-1967) features paintings created between 1957 and 1967, a transitional period for Hendler in which the artist moved away from an Abstract Expressionist mode and employed a more stylized line, producing distinct shapes and symbols. The exhibition is accompanied by a 16-page catalogue with an essay written by Phyllis Braff. Raymond Hendler: Raymond by Raymond (Paintings 1957-1967) opens July 8, 2021 and continues through August 20, 2021. Gallery summer hours are Monday - Friday, 10 am - 6 pm. ABOUT THE ARTIST A first-generation action painter, Raymond Hendler started his career as an Abstract Expressionist in Paris as early as 1949. In the years that followed, he played a significant role in the movement, both in New York, where he was the youngest voting member of the New York Artist’s Club. Hendler became a friend of Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, and Harold Rosenberg in Philadelphia, where he ran an avant-garde gallery between 1952 and 1954. Raymond Hendler was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1923 and studied in his native Philadelphia, at the Graphic Sketch Club, the Philadelphia College of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of Art, and the Tyler School of Art (Temple University). In 1949, he continued his art training in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière on the G.I. -

HOW TO PREPARE FOR INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY International Museum Day 2019 International Museum Day 2019 will focus on the new roles of museums as active actors in their communities. The role of museums in society is changing. Museums keep reinventing themselves in their quest for becoming more interactive, audience-focused, community-oriented, flexible, adaptable and mobile agencies. They have become cultural hubs functioning as platforms where creativity combines with knowledge and where visitors can also co-create, share and interact. While preserving their primary missions - collecting, conservation, communication, research, exhibition - museums have transformed their practices to remain closer to the communities they serve. Today they look for innovative ways to tackle contemporary social issues and conflict. By acting locally, museums can also advocate and mitigate global problems, striving to meet the challenges of today's society proactively. As institutions at the heart of society, museums have the power to establish dialogue between cultures, to build bridges for a peaceful world and to define a sustainable future. As museums increasingly grow into their roles as cultural hubs, they are also finding new ways to honour their collections, their histories and their legacies, creating traditions that will have new meaning for future generations and relevance for an increasingly diverse contemporary audience at a global level. This transformation, which will have a profound impact on museum theory and practice, also forces us to rethink the value of museums and to question the ethical boundaries that define the very nature of our work as museum professionals. At once a focal point for the community and an integral part of a global network, museums offer a platform for translating local communities' needs and views into a global context. -

The Inventory of the Richard Roud Collection #1117 Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center ROOD, RICHARD #1117 September 1989 - June 1997 Biography: Richard Roud ( 1929-1989), as director of both the New York and London Film Festivals, was responsible for both discovering and introducing to a wider audience many of the important directors of the latter half th of the 20 - century (many of whom he knew personally) including Bernardo Bertolucci, Robert Bresson, Luis Buiiuel, R.W. Fassbinder, Jean-Luc Godard, Werner Herzog, Terry Malick, Ermanno Ohni, Jacques Rivette and Martin Scorsese. He was an author of books on Jean-Marie Straub, Jean-Luc Godard, Max Ophuls, and Henri Langlois, as well as the editor of CINEMA: A CRITICAL DICTIONARY. In addition, Mr. Roud wrote extensive criticism on film, the theater and other visual arts for The Manchester Guardian and Sight and Sound and was an occasional contributor to many other publications. At his death he was working on an authorized biography of Fran9ois Truffaut and a book on New Wave film. Richard Roud was a Fulbright recipient and a Chevalier in the Legion of Honor. Scope and contents: The Roud Collection (9 Paige boxes, 2 Manuscript boxes and 3 Packages) consists primarily of book research, articles by RR and printed matter related to the New York Film Festival and prominent directors. Material on Jean-Luc Godard, Francois Truffaut and Henri Langlois is particularly extensive. Though considerably smaller, the Correspondence file contains personal letters from many important directors (see List ofNotable Correspondents). The Photographs file contains an eclectic group of movie stills. -

SCMS 2011 MEDIA CITIZENSHIP • Conference Program and Screening Synopses The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans • March 10–13, 2011 • SCMS 2011 Letter from the President Welcome to New Orleans and the fabulous Ritz-Carlton Hotel! On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our members, professional staff, and volunteers who have put enormous time and energy into making this conference a reality. This is my final conference as SCMS President, a position I have held for the past four years. Prior to my presidency, I served two years as President-Elect, and before that, three years as Treasurer. As I look forward to my new role as Past-President, I have begun to reflect on my near decade-long involvement with the administration of the Society. Needless to say, these years have been challenging, inspiring, and expansive. We have traveled to and met in numerous cities, including Atlanta, London, Minneapolis, Vancouver, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. We celebrated our 50th anniversary as a scholarly association. We planned but unfortunately were unable to hold our 2009 conference at Josai University in Tokyo. We mourned the untimely death of our colleague and President-Elect Anne Friedberg while honoring her distinguished contributions to our field. We planned, developed, and launched our new website and have undertaken an ambitious and wide-ranging strategic planning process so as to better position SCMS to serve its members and our discipline today and in the future. At one of our first strategic planning sessions, Justin Wyatt, our gifted and hardworking consultant, asked me to explain to the Board why I had become involved with the work of the Society in the first place. -
