  • The Naqshbandi-Haqqani Order, Which Has Become Remarkable for Its Spread in the “West” and Its Adaptation to Vernacular Cultures
From madness to eternity Psychiatry and Sufi healing in the postmodern world Athar Ahmed Yawar UCL PhD, Division of Psychiatry 1 D ECLARATION I, Athar Ahmed Yawar, confirm that the work presented in this thesis is my own. Where information has been derived from other sources, I confirm that this has been indicated in the thesis. Signed: 2 A BSTRACT Problem: Academic study of religious healing has recognised its symbolic aspects, but has tended to frame practice as ritual, knowledge as belief. In contrast, studies of scientific psychiatry recognise that discipline as grounded in intellectual tradition and naturalistic empiricism. This asymmetry can be addressed if: (a) psychiatry is recognised as a form of “religious healing”; (b) religious healing can be shown to have an intellectual tradition which, although not naturalistic, is grounded in experience. Such an analysis may help to reveal why globalisation has meant the worldwide spread not only of modern scientific medicine, but of religious healing. An especially useful form of religious healing to contrast with scientific medicine is Sufi healing as practised by the Naqshbandi-Haqqani order, which has become remarkable for its spread in the “West” and its adaptation to vernacular cultures. Research questions: (1) How is knowledge generated and transmitted in the Naqshbandi- Haqqani order? (2) How is healing understood and done in the Order? (3) How does the Order find a role in the modern world, and in the West in particular? Methods: Anthropological analysis of psychiatry as religious healing; review of previous studies of Sufi healing and the Naqshbandi-Haqqani order; ethnographic participant observation in the Naqshbandi-Haqqani order, with a special focus on healing.

The origins of the shrine cults are outlined, the similarities between traditional Muslim and Christian attitudes to shrines are emphasized and the functions of the shrine and the mosque are contrasted. Iranian and Afghan shrines are classified, firstly in terms of the objects which form their principal attrac tions and the saints associated with them, and secondly in terms of the distances over which they attract pilgrims. The administration and endowments of shrines are described and the relationship between shrines and secular authorities analysed.

  • Prevention of Human Blood in Islam
British Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences 1 February 2020, Vol. 23 (2) Prevention of Human Blood in Islam Dr. Muath Said Hawwa The World Islamic Sciences & Education University Prof. Dr. Mohammad Said Hawwa The Foundations of Religion Department Faculty of Shari’a (Islamic Studies), Mu’tah University, Al-Karak, Jordan Abstract The study discusses an issue its impacts renew in the modern age in front of existence of attitudes from some Islam claimers, or from the gate of Muslims’ protection in their claim. The study pin-pointed that texts of the Holy Quran and Sunnah assert that man is blood-prevented in origin being merely a human being. This verdict is commonly generalized for every human, either he was an individual or a part of a public community. And either he was in a land ruled by Muslims or by non-Muslims. But if there was a state of war this will be between two states at war, or two parties having a legal personality, at that moment it is ruled by what is called in Sharia verdicts of permanent or temporary reconciliation, truce, or convention. These all do not allow or declare killing being never had a convention, a reconciliation or truce, in addition to those cases with private law. Keywords: Prevention of Blood, Life Right, Human Rights, Blood Sanctity, Keeping Innocents. Introduction Praise be to Allah Lord of the world, and Peace be upon the master of messengers, Prophet Mohammed, Kinsman, clan and companions all, and then issues of human rights and sanctity of human blood, keeping money and property, assertion the

PJAEE, 17 (9) (2020) ORIENTALISTS ON THE AUTHENTICITY OF SUNNAH: A DESCRIPTIVE AND DIGITAL CRITICAL STUDY Farida Mohammed Alli Aqili1, Fatma Ibrahim Ali Radwan2, 1,2Assistant Professor, Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University Email: [email protected], [email protected] Farida Mohammed Alli Aqili, Fatma Ibrahim Ali Radwan,: Orientalists on the Authenticity of Sunnah: A Descriptive and Digital Critical Study -- Palarch’s Journal Of Archaeology Of Egypt/Egyptology 17(9). ISSN 1567-214x Keywords: Orientalists, Authenticity of Sunnah, Descriptive Study, Digital Critical Study. ABSTRACT The research aims at exploring and criticizing orientalism's views concerning the authenticity of the Prophet’s Sunnah by investigating the resources of orientalism. The views of orientalists on the authenticity of the Prophet’s Sunnah are documented in this study. Then, these are analyzed, discussed, and criticized using authentic Islamic resources. The research has resolved the orientalism’s views towards the authenticity of Sunnah with evidence. It ends up with the failure of the reporting (Al Athar) of orientalism in front of Islamic evidence and confirms the fading of their statements. It proves the authenticity of the Prophet’s Sunnah among the old jurisprudence schools. These have been considered as a source of Islamic legislation from the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him, to until now. The research intimates the necessity to establish educational and research centers aiming at the study of orientalism. Moreover, it emphasizes the requirement of increasing awareness among Muslims regarding the importance of the Prophet’s Sunnah and its legislative value through seminars and conferences. 1.
