It is this Spirit that filled the early Church with profound courage, wisdom, understanding, counsel, awe, and reverence in proclaiming all that God had done in Jesus. It is the same Spirit who continues to guide the Church and the same Spirit who dwells in each of us. Did you know that the same Holy Spirit also is profoundly active at the celebration of the Eucharist? In an action called the epiclesis (invocation), the priest lays his hands over the gifts on the altar begging the Father to send the Holy Spirit to come upon them to change them. Without the work of the Holy Spirit, there is no Eucharist! Come Holy Spirit! I would like to invite us all to pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our Parish. Would you pray the following prayer with me throughout this week? O Holy Spirit, Divine Consoler! I adore you as my True God. I offer you my whole heart, and I render you heartfelt thanks for all the benefits You have bestowed upon the world. You are the author of all supernatural gifts and enriched the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, with all favors, including her Immaculate Heart, I ask you to visit me and our parish by Your grace and Your love, and grant us an out pouring of Your gifts upon each member of our parish. O Holy Spirit, sprit of truth, come into our hearts: Shed the brightness of your light on our parish, that we may be of one mind and heart in faith and bear the fullness of the fruit which your gifts bring. Amen. The youth of our parish who have been preparing for the sacrament of confirmation will be strengthened with the gift of the Holy Spirit on Monday, May 14 th . We especially pray for them and offer our heartfelt congratulations!! Next Saturday, I will be away for the Men’s Golf outing at Rutger’s Bay Lake and Lodge. I have been told that what happens at Rutger’s stays at Rutger’s. But I’m praying for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all the men of our parish and hope that nothing will contain it. Last, but most importantly, Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers in our parish! We all hope you know how treasured you are! Peace and every good, Fr. John went Saturday, May 5 th . on pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in LaCrosse, WI and Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, WI. On Thursday, the feast of Saints Philip and James, the pilgrims attended Mass with the Franciscan Brothers of the Immaculate and were able to venerate first class relics of the saints. Later that day they spent a full hour in prayer with the brothers! They also received a tour of the magnificent Church where each side altar possesses a first-class relic of a modern saint. Many miracles surround prayers offered at these altars. On Friday, they visited the National Shrine of our Lady of Good Help, the only approved Marian apparition site in the United States. Each student was able to pray, along with their parents, at the very place where Mary appeared to Adele Brise in 1859. The following day, the pilgrims joined with 2000 others from all over the US in a walking pilgrimage (7-14 miles) to the shrine. Later that evening several parents and students stayed for the Mass with Bishop Ricken of the diocese of Green Bay. The pilgrimage was filled with the Holy Spirit and interspersed with a lot of fun and fellowship.
