London Transport Service Vehicles LONDON TRANSPORT SERVICE VEHICLES FLEET INFORMATION Part 4 - Locations, plus website content Issue 1 - March 2015 Part 4 - Locations etc LONDON TRANSPORT SERVICE VEHICLES Issue 1 - March 2015 Contents Page 2 Introduction 3 Table 1 - Locations, Basic List (sorted by code) 9 Table 2 - Locations, Detailed List (sorted by name) 54 Table 3 - Fleet News Items 96 Table 4 - Website News Items 128 Table 5 - Website Forum Posts Introduction About this document This document contains two lists of locations associated with London Transport service vehicles, as well as some other content from the LTSV website (news and forum postings). Other documents are available that contain further content as listed below. Part 1 gives a basic list of all known service vehicles Part 2 gives full details of all vehicles, including such information as chassis and body numbers, suppliers and disposals and allocation histories (broken down into sections due to size) Part 3 contains the captioned photographs that have been published on the website (broken down into sections due to size) LTSV has accumulated a large amount of information over the years. By making these documents available for download it is hoped that the content can be preserved even if something happens to me or my website. This document includes content added up to (and including) 1st of March 2015. A new version will be produced perhaps once or twice a year, depending on how much has changed. For the latest information, please check the website www.ltsv.com. Locations lists The locations list has been provided in two different formats. The first is a tabulated list with the basic details, sorted by location code. Note that the 1- and 2-letter codes are official London Transport codes, mainly for bus garages. Other locations have been given unofficial 3-letter codes. The second list is sorted by location name and gives additional information in the form of notes added by contributors to the LTSV website. These notes have not been edited, other than to remove some irrelevant hyperlinks. News items All the news items posted on the LTSV website are reproduced here, firstly the fleet news items (in date order) and then the site news items. Again these have not been edited apart from the removal of certain hyperlinks. Forum postings The final section of this document is a collection of forum postings. These are presented in order of posting date and include any responses added. We are already well in our way to reach our goal. There is much to do. 1.1.2 Regeneration is the top priority in Medway, the delivery of major development sites together with the rejuvenation of Chatham town centre are key during the life of this plan. Transport will make a significant contribution to the regeneration of Medway. For this reason the plan includes a local priority covering sustainable regeneration. The council’s vision: To make Medway a city of learning culture, tourism, and high technology. 1.1.3 The LTP will be delivered across eight key objectives, with supporting regeneration, improving travel safety, movement in Medway and improving accessibility being of the highest importance.

  • Ultimate Spectators Guide to the London Marathon
ULTIMATE SPECTATORS GUIDE TO THE LONDON MARATHON We recommend you purchase a Travelcard to travel around London on the day as this will allow access to Rail, Tube and Bus at no extra charge. Zones 1-2 should be adequate for the travelling around the route, however if you need to go further afield, please check which zones you’ll be travelling in. Buses no longer accept cash payments. You’ll need to use a Travelcard, Oyster card or pay with a contactless debit/credit card. Please note that whilst we do have cheering stations at Tower Bridge (mile 12) and along the Victoria Embankment (mile 24) these will be manned by volunteers and we do not recommend you go to those points on race day. This is because these areas are extremely busy and it can take a long time to move through the crowds. By skipping Tower Bridge, you have more chance of seeing your runner at multiple points on the route, and by going straight to mile 25 from 19 you’ll cheer them on from the end! START AREA Although it’s advised not to accompany your runner to the start due to the high volumes of people, if you decide to see them off, please be aware that spectators will not be allowed into the assembly areas of the start. Once you’ve said your farewells and good lucks, head down the Avenue out of Greenwich Park. Once out of the park, turn left onto Nevada Street and keep walking as it turns into Burney Street.

  • 6. Tackling Congestion
    6. Tackling Congestion Reducing the levels of congestion remains a fundamental objective in this Plan. This not only look at addressing congestion related problems currently being experienced in Southend but at managing expected traffic growth in the future. The latter is essential in ensuring future aspirations for the Borough are realised, especially plans for regeneration and intensification of the urban area. Southend already experiences significant delays on many sections of its key routes. Without intervention, overall traffic levels on local highway network during the morning peak hour are forecast to grow by over 20% by 2011 and 35% by 2016. As a result, peak hour traffic conditions will deteriorate significantly with journey times on strategic routes expected to increase by between 50% and 75% by 2011, and doubling by 2016. It is clear that the strategy for reducing congestion has synergies with the transport measures and policies identified to deliver other shared priorities, namely accessibility, safer roads, better air quality and quality of life. Improvement in terms of accessibility and safety will make alternatives to the car more attractive, and similarly reducing traffic levels and congestion will likely reduce numbers of accidents and impacts on air quality. An Overview to Achieving the Shared Priority The LTP strategy will help deliver improved and more reliable journey times for all road users and seek to redress the balance of the transport system by making non-car modes a far more attractive alternative to the car for many trips. The strategy is based on managing the existing network, as well as reinforcing and strengthening measures and policies aimed at influencing people’s travel behaviour and ultimately promoting sensible travel choices.

  • Friends of Classic London Buses of the Fifties for Those Actively Involved in Or Supporting the Preservation of London Buses, Coaches and Trolleybuses of the Past
Friends of Classic London Buses of the Fifties For those actively involved in or supporting the preservation of London buses, coaches and trolleybuses of the past Here is a nice wintry shot of RT 1426, one of the Country area's Cravens-bodied examples, waiting to go to home to Windsor from Uxbridge, long ago, via the picturesque-sounding Iver Heath, George Green, Upton Lea and more mundane Wexham Road, Slough and Eton. I cannot speak for those places at the time the photograph was taken, but in more recent times it has been hard to see anything remotely rural, bucolic or delightful about any of them, and Upton Lea is nothing but a large and uninspiring housing estate on the edge of Slough. Life can be so disappointing at times! Photo by Michael Dryhurst. Newsletter 162 February 2020 Opening Lines First of all, many thanks to all those “Friends” who kindly sent us seasonal greetings at what is nowadays regarded as the “festive” season. These are of course warmly reciprocated. Thanks also to those many individuals who contribute to this monthly mayhem. All contributions are gratefully received and as many as possible are used. It matters not if you send a couple of lines or several pages, it all helps to keep us all in touch. I would also now ask vehicle owners to think about keeping us posted, especially in the case of those buses and coaches which rarely, if ever, appear in public. Many members like to know that these “ghost” buses still exist and are being cared for, or stored, or even under extensive restoration.

We have learnt all you need to know about cob walls and thatched cottages; we have heard gruesome tales about hanging judges and torture in prisons and the Tower of London; we’ve learnt what the Romans did for us and we’ve been in Windsor Castle and under the sea exploring wrecks.

LT000605/005 - Description of the New Administrative Offices of the Underground Group of Companies By the late 1920s, the Underground Electric Railways Companies of London Ltd was anxious to house all of its ‘head office’ staff in one new purpose-built office block on the site of the old Metropolitan District Railway offices above St James’s Park station. The plans developed by Adams, Holden and Pearson, the architects commissioned by the Group, were radical: • 55 Broadway would be the tallest office building in London; • there would be a cruciform design - in place of the customary hollow rectangle format – which would offer staff more natural daylight in wings projecting from a central core housing lifts, staircases and essential services; and • Contemporary artists would be invited to sculpt decorative features directly onto the stone facade. As detailed in this reprint of a 1929 brochure about the building, 55 Broadway was constructed between 1927 and 1929. 700 reinforced concrete piles sunk to an average depth of 40 feet below basement level support the building. Nineteen load-bearing steel girders span the railway, and special insulation was used to reduce vibration from the trains. Above ground, the building was constructed around a steel girder skeleton and faced with 78,000 cubic feet of high quality Portland stone. The building has a bold appearance, enhanced by progressive stepping back above the sixth, eighth and ninth floors – giving an uneven pyramid effect. The clock tower, 174 feet high, has a similar stepped back effect. Granite for the ground floor came from Norway whilst the Travertine marble used in the interior came from Italy.
