  • The Bengalis: a Thousand Years
Bengalis Thousand Years 8670/ 021116 The BengAlis: A ThousAnd YeArs Jawhar Sircar The last few days of a century that also happen to be at the end of a whole millennium, are bound to stir a strange excitement in even the most placid person. The two most expected feelings that hold their sway can perhaps be summarized as: introspection and expectation — drawing a balance sheet of the past as also trying to gauge what the future holds. Such an exercise can cover not only a single person or his immediate concerns; it may as well cover his locality, his state or nation and may be stretched to entire humanity. The constraints of my acquaintance and knowledge hardly qualify me to scan any group higher or bigger than my own people: the Bengalis. Even in this, my limitations now plague me more than my enthusiasm to try out such a review — but these notwithstanding; the sheer thrill of initiating an animated adda on the subject overpowers me. At the beginning, let me make it clear that I do not have the audacity to try to cover a thousand years in just a few pages: hence I will concentrate only on certain significant periods or issues, for the sake of presenting a viewpoint. So let us begin: are the Bengalis a thousand years old? Or even more? Historians tell us about our history during the Pala- Sena period, which would give us about 1250 years to be proud of, but if we include the great Sasanka, we could be share-holders in a great concern that goes back fourteen centuries.

BEHALA SRIJAN (Education amidst of mud, slate and dried bread) A Registered Non Profitable Social and Culture Organisation BEHALA SRIJAN, conceptualized and registered in 2012 primarily in- stitutionalized to extend its hands for educating, nourishing and up- lifting underprivileged Children and families in all respects to achieve better and sustainable independent life. It has touched that part of society where education has lost its relevance. At BEHALA SRIJAN, we believe to support 10 children fully in all respects rather extending nominal help to 100 children with our meagre financial capacity. In past, various programs were organized by BEHALA SRIJAN named as Naari...to celebrate the birth anniversary of Holy sister Nivedita, who dedicated her life for the women education in India and in Bengal in particular. BEHALA SRIJAN invited 6 children of under privileged families of the Sunderbans of South 24 Parganas of West Bengal. BEHALA SRIJAN have also extended support to underprivileged chil- dren of Bankura and Tiljala, Kalighat Galaxy Welfare Society, Bagbazar BEHALA SRIJAN Prathmick Vidyalaya and also supported destitute children from the EXECUTIVE MEMBERS primary school of Shiv Mandir Club of Kalighat area. www.takshilalearning.com INDIAN CLASSICAL & FOLK DANCES What is dance? Dance is an art form that requires the movement of your body, music, and rhythm. It is considered a means of expressing yourself in many cultures. It is often carried out as a means of social interaction, psychological speech, and exercise. It is often used numerous times to convey ideas. Almost every state in India has its own style of dance. How are dance forms differentiated? At the time of harvest, there is one dance in nearly every province. India is renowned for its cultural heritage, which is rich. Diversification is the nation's identity. Indian dance is one of our culture's most respected identities. In India, classical and folk dance styles can be narrowly divided into 2 groups. As per the local tradition, these dance forms originated from different parts of India. Which form of dance prevails throughout the country? In India, dancing is an ancient and celebrated cultural practice. Throughout the country, folk dances prevail, and large crowds of people can be found dancing at festivals and weddings. There are also dance and song features in Indian cinema (so-called "Bollywood" films). But from where does Indian dance have its roots?
