Pursuant to the Special Rapporteur’s mandate, contained in Human Rights Council resolution 6/14, the report examines the current situation and the existing legislation, institutional mechanisms and programmes established to address contemporary forms of slavery. The report pays particular attention to the worst forms of child labour in the fishing sector, the situation of kayayee (porters) and sexual exploitation. She also touches upon other areas of concern which require attention, including domestic and religious servitude, and servile marriage. On the basis of her findings, she draws attention to the outstanding challenges in combating these modern forms of slavery, and makes recommendations to strengthen and complement current efforts. * The summary of the present report is circulated in all official languages.
