TOTO Tribute Library for Roland JD-XA TOTO Tribute Library for Roland JD-XA TOTO tribute library is a collection of patches made for the Roland JD-XA and dedicated to one of the greatest rock band of all time, TOTO (http://totoofficial.com/). The library is made of 16 patches, built on top of the powerful synth engine of the Roland JD-XA, that offers complex layering and splitting possibilities. The patches can be transfered to the JD-XA using the software “JD-XA Librarian” that is available free of charge visiting the Roland website: https://www.roland.com/us/products/jd-xa/downloads/. Open the tool, choose the midi ports, load the .xal file and transfer the sounds to the synth via MIDI putting them on a bank of your choice. If you don’t want to use the librarian, you have a set of files to store on a USB stick, that has been formatted on your JD-XA. In this last case you can put the files in whatever location you want, even if they are supplied inside the folders starting from “A”. The table below shows the patches that are included in the library, each one with the corresponding song it’s dedicated to. Primary support was provided by the EU projects FP6-507142 SIMAC http://www.semanticaudio.org. iii iv Abstract The complexity of music is one of the less intensively researched areas in music information retrieval so far. Although very interesting findings have been reported over the years, there is a lack of a unified approach to the matter. Relevant publications mostly concentrate on single aspects only and are scattered across different disciplines. Especially an automated estimation based on the audio material itself has hardly been addressed in the past. However, it is not only an interesting and challenging topic, it also allows for very practical applications. The motivation for the presented research lies in the enhancement of human interaction with digital music collections. As we will discuss, there is a variety of tasks to be considered, such as collection visualization, play-list generation, or the automatic recommendation of music. While this thesis doesn’t deal with any of these problems in deep detail it aims to provide a useful contribution to their solution in form of a set of music complexity descriptors.

Designed and built in-house by our staff of engineers, this robotic “Drum Machine,” called the Gluing Gantry, ensures that every Evans head has a true collar. A series of vacuum fixtures holds the film in place for each head while the robotic gluing arm circles above the hoop and dispenses epoxy. The result is a drumhead that tunes both easily and consistently. At Evans, we do it right the first time. And every time. Check out what Peter Erskine has to say about Evans drumheads at www.evansdrumheads.com PO Box 290 • Farmingdale, NY 11735 We’ve been making the world’s finest sticks for years. And experience tells us that there are no shortcuts when it comes to making a stick. There is, however a very good short- cut when choosing one. The journey from wooden dowel to finished drumstick is a tough one. Each stick makes its way through the hands of several craftsmen before it leaves us. And at every test, there’s always the chance of getting turned into firewood. But it does get easier when our sticks reach the store. Because once you feel a pair in your hands, you’ll appreciate the time it spent in ours.

  • TOTO Bio (PDF)
TOTO Bio Few ensembles in the history of recorded music have individually or collectively had a larger imprint on pop culture than the members of TOTO. As individuals, the band members’ imprint can be heard on an astonishing 5000 albums that together amass a sales history of a HALF A BILLION albums. Amongst these recordings, NARAS applauded the performances with 225 Grammy nominations. Band members were South Park characters, while Family Guy did an entire episode on the band's hit "Africa." As a band, TOTO sold 35 million albums, and today continue to be a worldwide arena draw staging standing room only events across the globe. They are pop culture, and are one of the few 70s bands that have endured the changing trends and styles, and 35 years in to a career enjoy a multi-generational fan base. It is not an exaggeration to estimate that 95% of the world's population has heard a performance by a member of TOTO. The list of those they individually collaborated with reads like a who's who of Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, alongside the biggest names in music. The band took a page from their heroes The Beatles playbook and created a collective that features multiple singers, songwriters, producers, and multi-instrumentalists. Guitarist Steve Lukather aka Luke has performed on 2000 albums, with artists across the musical spectrum that include Michael Jackson, Roger Waters, Miles Davis, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Rod Stewart, Jeff Beck, Don Henley, Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick and many more. His solo career encompasses a catalog of ten albums and multiple DVDs that collectively encompass sales exceeding 500,000 copies.

Toto – 40 Tours Around The Sun (66:42, 63:16, 02:21:00; 2 CD, 1 DVD, Universal/Eagle Vision, 2019) Was hört der Prog-Fan, der was auf sich hält, nur allenfalls heimlich im Keller? Richtig, Toto. Für diese Antwort bekäme man bei Günther Jauch allenfalls 50€. Toto ist die meist gehasste Band in der Prog-Community. Das steht wohl außer Zweifel. Warum eigentlich? • Sociophonetics of Popular Music: Insights from Corpus Analysis and Speech Perception Experiments
Sociophonetics of Popular Music: Insights from Corpus Analysis and Speech Perception Experiments Andy M. Gibson This dissertation is submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Linguistics Department of Linguistics University of Canterbury New Zealand September 2019 To my Dad, who taught me the joy of climbing hills on blustery days. Abstract This thesis examines the flexibility and context-sensitivity of speech perception by look- ing at a domain not often explored in the study of language cognition — popular music. Three empirical studies are presented. The first examines the current state of sociolinguis- tic variation in commercial popular music, while the second and third explore everyday listeners’ perception of language in musical and non-musical contexts. The foundational assumption of the thesis is that the use of ‘American English’ in song is automatic for New Zealand singers, and constitutes a responsive style that is both accurate and consistent. The use of New Zealand English in song, by contrast, is stylised, involving an initiative act of identity and requiring effort and awareness. This will be discussed in Chapter 1,where I also introduce the term Standard Popular Music Singing Style (SPMSS) to refer to the US English-derived phonetic style dominant in popular song. The first empirical study will be presented in Chapter 2. Using a systematically selected corpus of commercial pop and hip hop from NZ and the USA, analysis of non-prevocalic and linking /r/, and the vowels of the bath, lot and goat lexical sets confirm that SPMSS is highly normative in NZ music.

Committee Chair signature: Hearing, Remembering, and Branding: Guidelines for Creating Sonic Logos A dissertation submitted to the Graduate School of the University of Cincinnati in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in the Department of Marketing of the College of Business Administration by Vijaykumar Krishnan Palghat PGDM, Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta B. Tech., Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi Committee Dr. James J. Kellaris (Chair) Dr. Frank R. Kardes Dr. Wei Pan Abstract Sonic Branding is the strategic use of sound to create an authentic auditory identity for the brand. Conventional applications of sound in branding are tactical and lean on classical conditioning theory by repetitive pairing of sound and brand to create desired associations. In contrast, sonic branding leans on processing fluency theory leveraging sound as information in and of itself. Often such auditory information is nonverbal and nonlinguistic. Sonic logos are good examples illustrating this phenomenon. A sonic logo, “sogo,” the auditory analog of a visual logo, is a typical sonic branding device. Sogos are short melodies not lasting more than six seconds. Some interesting examples are the 5-tone Intel sogo, windows vista’s 4-tone start-up chime and NBC’s 3-tone sogo.
