IMPERIALE KONZERT- UND OPERNREISEN September bis Dezember 2017 SEPTEMBER - HÖHEPUNKTE In der Staatsoper kann neben Aufführungen wie „Die Hochzeit des Figaro“, „Der Barbier von Sevilla“, „La Bohème“ u. a., sicherlich „Der Troubadour“ mit Anna Netrebko als Höhepunkt im September gesehen werden. Zusätzlich wird noch Mussorgski‘s „Chowanschtschina“ mit Ferruccio Furlanetto in der Titelrolle gegeben: „Eine zeitlose Parabel auf den ewigen Kreislauf von Machterwerb,- u. Verlust Einzelner auf Kosten des einfachen Volkes.“ Die Wiener Symphoniker treten sowohl im Musikverein, als auch im Konzerthaus auf mit Werken von Strauss und Dvorak. Verdi Mit Olga Peretyatko-Mariotti, Jean-François, Borras, Paolo Rumetz OKTOBER HÖHEPUNKTE Für Konzertfreunde gibt es diesen Monat gleich zwei interessante Reisen: Alle Konzerte finden im Goldene Saal des Wiener Musikvereins statt: Das Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment führt Händels Oratorium „Semele“ auf, die Wiener Philharmoniker geben ein Konzert mit Beethoven-Symphonien unter der Leitung von Andris Nelsons. Es gibt eine Reise mit gleich drei Konzerten des Gewandhausorchesters Leipzig, dirigiert von Herbert Blomstedt mit den Solisten Leoniedes Kavakos und Gautier Capuçon. Des Weiteren wird ein Konzert des Kammerorchesters Basel und auch des Cleveland Orchesters angeboten. Folgende Opernhighlights werden im Oktober zur Aufführung kommen: „Don Giovanni“, „Pélléas und Mélisande“, „Rusalka“, „Tosca“, „Die Italienerin in Algier“ und die Neuproduktion von „Der Spieler“ (S. Weiters stehen folgende Opern auf dem Programm: „Katja Kabanova“, „Ein Maskenball“, „Adriana Lecouvreur“ (mit Anna Netrebko), „ Salome“ „Der Liebestrank“, „Madame Butterfly“, Ariadne auf Naxos“. Im Musikverein gibt es einen Liederabend mit Elina Garanca. Aber auch die Konzertliebhaber kommen mit zwei Highlights im Musikverein auf Ihre Kosten: Die Wiener Philharmoniker mit „Pultstar“ Daniel Barenboim und das Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks unter der Leitung Mariss Jansons.     FEMALE CLASSICAL COMPOSERS from past to present ʻFreed from the shackles and tatters of the old tradition and prejudice, American and European women in music are now universally hailed as important factors in the concert and teaching fields and as … fast developing assets in the creative spheres of the profession.’ This affirmation was made in 1935 by Frédérique Petrides, the Belgian-born female violinist, conductor, teacher and publisher who was a pioneering advocate for women in music. Some 80 years on, it’s gratifying to note how her words have been rewarded with substance in this catalogue of music by women composers. Petrides was able to look back on the foundations laid by those who were well-connected by family name, such as Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel, and survey the crop of composers active in her own time, including Louise Talma and Amy Beach in America, Rebecca Clarke and Liza Lehmann in England, Nadia Boulanger in France and Lou Koster in Luxembourg. She could hardly have foreseen, however, the creative explosion in the latter half of the 20th century generated by a whole new raft of female composers – a happy development that continues today.     Così fan tutte Cast Biography (Cahir, Ireland) Jennifer Davis is an alumna of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme and has appeared at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden as Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore; Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte; Ifigenia in Oreste; Arbate in Mitridate, re di Ponto; and Ines in Il Trovatore, among other roles. Following her sensational 2018 role debut as Elsa von Brabant in a new production of Lohengrin conducted by Andris Nelsons at the Royal Opera House, Davis has been propelled to international attention, winning praise for her gleaming, silvery tone, and dramatic characterisation of remarkable immediacy. (Sacramento, California) American Mezzo-soprano Irene Roberts continues to enjoy international acclaim as a singer of exceptional versatility and vocal suppleness. Following her “stunning and dramatically compelling” (SF Classical Voice) performances as Carmen at the San Francisco Opera in June, Roberts begins the 2016/2017 season in San Francisco as Bao Chai in the world premiere of Bright Sheng’s Dream of the Red Chamber. Currently in her second season with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, her upcoming assignments include four role debuts, beginning in November with her debut as Urbain in David Alden’s new production of Les Huguenots led by Michele Mariotti. She performs in her first Ring cycle in 2017 singing Waltraute in Die Walküre and the Second Norn in Götterdämmerung under the baton of Music Director Donald Runnicles, who also conducts her role debut as Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel. Racette is well known to San Diego Opera audiences, making her Company debut in 1995 as Mimì in La bohème, and returning in 2001 as Love Simpson in Cold Sassy Tree (a role she created for the world premiere at Houston Grand Opera), in 2004 for the title role of Katya Kabanova, and in 2009 as Cio-Cio San in Madama Buttefly. She continues to appear regularly in the most acclaimed opera houses of the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, Washington National Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and Santa Fe Opera. Known as a great interpreter of Janáček and Puccini, she has gained particular notoriety for her portrayals of the title roles of Madama Butterfly, Tosca, Jenůfa, Katya Kabanova, and all three leading soprano roles in Il Trittico.
