State University Channel Islands • Schedule of Classes • Fall 2004 1

Welcome from The President

Dear Students:

It is my pleasure to welcome you to campus for the fall 2004 semester. Whether you have recently graduated from high school, are transferring from another institution, or are continuing your studies from your last semester here on campus, I congratulate you for making the decision to pursue your dreams through higher education.

In the months ahead, you will be challenged to think in new ways about the world, society, and yourself. Some of the questions you may ask will have no answers, and some will have many more answers than there will be students in the room. This is the dynamic nature of education, and we hope you enjoy the journey.

Our mission places students at the center of an educational experience committed to providing you with multicultural and international perspectives that will help you grow both intellectually and creatively. This collaborative effort begins with you but we, the faculty and staff of Cal State Channel Islands, consider ourselves your partners. Don’t hesitate to call on any of us for assistance as you explore your opportunities.

Sincerely,

Richard R. Rush President 2 California State University Channel Islands • Schedule of Classes • Fall 2004

Graduation To qualify for graduation, students must complete all requirements for the bachelor’s degree by the offi cial graduation date listed in the Schedule of Classes. Graduation is not automatic upon the completion of requirements. Students who intend to graduate must take the initiative and should follow the key steps listed in the Catalog. While students are ultimately responsible for completing all degree requirements, assistance is available through faculty advisement, the Advising Center, and Graduation Evaluations. It is important that students meet regularly with an advisor to avoid graduation problems and delays.

The application for bachelor’s degree, and diploma, and fi ling fee entitle students to an offi cial graduation evaluation of progress toward meeting baccalaureate degree requirements. Students qualifying for graduation by the designated graduation date may participate in the annual commencement ceremony. The application for degree is available at the Advising Center in the Bell Tower and at the Enrollment Center in the Professional Building. * Student eligibility for fi nancial aid is based on enrollment. A student who completely withdraws from a period of enrollment may be subject to repayment (includ- ing medical withdrawals). Financial aid recipients should consult a fi nancial aid representative for additional information.

Criteria for Late Add/Drop or Changes in the Basis of Grading Students should note that a defi cient academic performance is not a suffi cient reason for dropping a class or changing the basis of grading after the third week. Students must present proof of a serious and compelling reason for withdrawal.

Medical Withdrawal A medical withdrawal usually constitutes complete withdrawal from the University for the academic period in question. Beginning with the fourth week of the semester, students who fi nd it necessary to withdraw from the University for medical reasons may be required to present documentation. Financial aid recipients should consult a fi nancial aid representative regarding the implications of a complete withdrawal.
