Garrowhill tennis courts proposal noted.

3 There was submitted and noted a report by the Chief Executive, Life providing an update of the progress with the delivery of new tennis court provision in Garrowhill Park, advising

(1) that due to the success of Andy Murray at the top of the men’s game, interest in tennis had risen exponentially in recent years and as a result and Glasgow Life in conjunction with Tennis and the Lawn Tennis Association had embarked on a programme of investment in outdoor tennis facilities;

(2) to date investment had focused on enhancing park based facilities on the West, North West and South of the city;

(3) Glasgow City Council, in conjunction with Tennis Scotland, was keen to redress this deficiency through the provision of outdoor courts in locations and communities that would offer the most potential for demand;

(4) Garrowhill Park and Glasgow Club had been identified as locations as being worthy of further investigation and a feasibility assessment was carried out in December 2015 which identified scope to construct 3 x floodlit, porous macadam tennis courts on the site of the former tennis courts in Garrowhill Park;

(5) of the capital and revenue costs involved and the capital funding;

(6) as preparation for the submission of a funding application, Glasgow Life’s Communities team had conducted some local research during the summer/autumn of 2016 which had resulted in 103 responses, 97 of which had expressed support for the proposal; and

(7) of the next steps in the proposal including ground lease, funding applications, scope of works and a planning application.

After consideration, the Partnership; noted

(a) the report; and

(b) that some concerns had been raised via the local Community Council regarding the possible anti-social behaviour that might occur around the Tennis Courts and agreed that local residences would need to be reassured regarding the arrangements for the management of the facility.
