The two-storey building on a 0.88ha of land will be built at a cost of RM21.4mil. Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk Patahiyah Ismail said the complex was scheduled for completion in early 2017. “The complex will have an Olympic-size swimming pool, a diving pool, 10 badminton courts with a gymnasium and a dry gym. “There will also be 96 parking lots as well as a pro-shop which offers sports merchandise, and a cafe,” she said in her opening speech at the ground-breaking ceremony of the complex site in Relau yesterday. She added that facilities for the disabled such as parking lots and toilets, would also be prepared. “We will also prepare 35 parking bays for bicycles to encourage people to cycle to the complex,” Patahiyah said. Modern look: The City Sports Complex will be built on a 0.88ha site in Relau, Penang. The contractor for the building of the complex was chosen through an open tender process, she added. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who opened the ceremony, said the complex was in line with the state’s cleaner, greener, healthier and safer Penang vision. “The complex’s design was developed by MBPP, which proves that the council has the expertise to develop its own public projects, which are of international standard. “I hope the sports complex will be a platform for Penangites to lead a healthy lifestyle,” he said. Also present at the ceremony were state Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow, state Youth and Sports, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Chong Eng, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, Paya Terubong assemblyman Yeoh Soon Hin and MBPP councillors..

More women are educated, forming 47.1% of female labor force participation. Those employed are mostly in the service industries and other sectors such as manufacturing (30.1%), wholesale, retail trade, hotels and restaurant, and agriculture (15.9%). Women today consist of almost half of the population and exceed boys in the tertiary sector by a ratio of 80:20. Despite these achievements, however, women’s labor force engagement remains confined to “traditional women’s occupations” such as those of primary school teachers, data entry clerks and other clerical jobs.

The ‘Gender Mainstrea- ming: Justice for All’ Conference held in Penang on 31 July and 1 August 2010 drew almost 200 participants from all races and ages. As you are surely aware, democracy is struggling in Southeast Asia. Many countries in our region have taken dramatic steps backward in the past two years. While Southeast Asia appeared to be on the cusp of a genuine political transformation only a few years ago, more recently the region has instead witnessed military takeovers, the rollback of fundamental rights, intensifying government-sponsored discrimination against ethnic and religious minorities, and the increasing persecution of activists and opposition voices, including fellow parliamentarians. These setbacks constitute a fundamental threat to the future of the ASEAN Community and the US relationship with it. While we recognize and understand your administration’s desire to strengthen trade and security cooperation with Southeast Asian governments, we urge you to proceed with caution. Human rights, democracy, and basic dignity cannot take a backseat to economic or security prerogatives. Open dialogue on fundamental political and rights-based questions is vital to ensuring the sustainability of bilateral relationships and promoting broad-based benefits of trans-Pacific cooperation. When you sit down with ASEAN leaders in California, we urge you to press them on unfulfilled human rights commitments and to directly raise specific concerns with them.

Persidangan Kebangsaan 2014 diadakan di One City, USJ 25, Subang Jaya, Selangor pada 14 Disember 2014, selepas Kongres Kebangsaan Ke-16 diadakan pada 15 dan 16 Disember 2012 di Pulau Pinang and selepas pengundian semula untuk Jawatankuasa Tertinggi Pusat (CEC) yang sedia ada dilaksanakan pada 29 Disember 2013 di Petaling Jaya, Selangor. 2. Tema Persidangan kali ini adalah “Berat sama dipikul, ringan sama dijinjing.” Ini adalah peribahasa Melayu lama yang mencerminkan komitmen DAP terhadap solidariti rakyat Malaysia ke arah perpaduan, toleransi, keadilan sosial dan peluang saksama untuk semua. KEDUDUKAN PARTI 3. DAP lawan ROS Sejak kejayaan DAP dalam pilihanraya umum 2008, Barisan Nasional yang dikuasai oleh UMNO telah menyerang Parti kita siang dan malam. Sebabnya mudah sahaja: Jika rakyat Malaysia, terutamanya orang Melayu, boleh menerima DAP atau politik bukan-kaum, ia akan menghancurkan politik perkauman di negara ini. Tindakan-tindakan hasad dengki UMNO-BN yang tak henti-henti itu telah menjangkau pula kepada tindakan Pendaftar Pertubuhan (ROS) yang mahu mengharamkan DAP menjelang PRU ke-13 tahun lalu. Kita tidak berundur dan dengan itu, kita menang pusingan pertama. Kemudian ROS datang menyerang kita lagi. Dan sekali lagi, kita bertempur di medan perundangan dan kita menang dalam perjuangan politik kita. ROS terpaksa tunduk di mahkamah selepas disaman oleh DAP, iaitu ROS perlu menerima hakikat bahawa arahan ROS yang menyatakan jawatankuasa tertinggi pusat Parti yang sah yang dipilih pada 29 September 2013 tidak boleh membuat keputusan untuk DAP kerana ia tidak diiktiraf, adalah tidak terikat dengan undang-undang. Walaupun DAP terpaksa bersetuju dengan tuntutan awal ROS supaya Parti kita mengadakan pemilihan semula - jika tidak, Parti menghadapi risiko diharamkan, dan kita tetap mengadakan pemilihan semula itu walapun dengan bantahan, kita tetap berjuang dengan semangat solidariti dan telah membuktikan bahawa kita tidak akan dapat dikalahkan.

1 FIRST THREE MONTHS OF TOMMY THOMAS AS ATTORNEY GENERAL By Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad Tommy Thomas assumed office as Attorney General (AG) on June 4, 2018 amidst cheers that he is a “constitutional law expert and civil litigator”; “an excellent choice for his expertise in the law and understanding of human issues” - Herald (Malaysian Catholic Church newspaper); “he holds an enormous amount of experience, making him a (way) more-than qualified candidate for the job” – Esquire; “committed, charismatic and vocal” – Esquire; the first member of the Bar: first non-Malay (Indian) and non-Muslim (Christian) and a lot more, to be so appointed since Merdeka. The inference is that, at last, after more than half a century, a person of real calibre has been appointed and only after the fall of the UMNO (Malay) dominated federal government. The other inference is that all former AGs who were Malays, Muslims and from the Judicial and Legal Service, to put it mildly, were less qualified. Three weeks later (June 25, 2018) I wrote the article “Is the new AG choosing his briefs like a private lawyer?” This article was written after he made the statement that his stand was the same as that of the Bar Council that the post of AG and Public Prosecutor (PP) should be separate and that his priority was as the legal advisor to the government. And reporters were always guaranteed of a good story from the veteran politician, who won the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat after the 2004 general election. "This coffee shop holds many memories. The 'Ah Ee' (auntie) who runs the place has agreed to let us continue the practice if we win again," Ramkarpal told reporters at Ju Huat this morning during his visit to Air Itam for the by-election campaign. He said it was like a homecoming affair for him visiting Air Itam and the coffee shop because his father loved the place. "He would have his breakfast here and give his press conferences before going back to his office. We hope these memories and tradition will continue," he said. State DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the Penang party committee kept a keen interest in Karpal's press conferences at the coffee shop.
