It was agreed by the group that a promotion project on active transportation would be a good choice. The event will either be held as part of another larger event, or possibly at GSS over the lunch breaks. (potential for BT to do the same, if there are sufficient students to do so). Group discussed having a photo booth as part of the promotions, possibly using the libraries green screen if agreeable (Ben has some experience with the screen). Students present will bring the idea forward at student council in consideration of possible dates. There is a $500.00 budget that can be spent towards the project, either for project materials or for giveaways. NEXT MEETING: we will brainstorm specific ideas for the event, possible use of the funds and set a tentative date. Youth Friendly Community Sarah reviewed the general Youth Friendly Community criteria and handed out information about the categories and the overall project intent. The committee agreed to work towards the application for the 2017 season and will host a community meeting to start gathering information in April. The following is a list of organizations that provide an ‘opportunity for play’ to the youth community (ages 13-19 yrs specifically). We will invite them all to a meeting in April that is lead by the MYAC students with the intentions of gathering information towards the youth friendly criteria. ° FORT ° YMCA ° Marlins Swim Team (Town) ° Soccer club, hockey club, baseball and runners group ° Air Cadets ° Library Page 3 of 16 Agenda item a) ° Heritage Art Competition ° Art Gallery ° Highschools (invite the teachers that assist with student council) ° Tennis club ° Vntg (youth church group) ° Council and committee ° Dance and gymnastics groups ° Hospital, GBF – for volunteering ° Peach bud road race ° Station One ° Town of Grimsby (LIT, parade etc..) ° This list may be expanded as other groups are identified NEXT MEETING: we will determine the format of the meeting, choose a date and prepare a letter of invitation. If given permission Sarah will get some flyers about MYAC to them for their presentation. Next meeting Tues. Feb 9, 3:30 pm Town Hall – Lakeside Room Adjournment. Team Ferris won the Challenge Round Competition in Penetanguishene this past weekend and in doing so quali?ed for the 2016 Recharge With Milk Ontario Men's ProvincialCurling Championships that is being hosted at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre in Brantford from February 1-7 , We are part of an elite 11 team ?eld that includes former World Champion Glenn Howard and #8 World Ranked Team John Epping who will compete to earn the right to represent Ontario at the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier There is no prize pool in this event, just the prestige of competing against other elite teams for an opportunity to qualify for the Brier. Our team's hotel expenses for the week are only partially subsidized by the Ontario Curling Association. We will also have to incur the costs of most of our meals, equipment and travel costs as well as the expenses of immediate family attending. We are currently seeking the sponsorship support of local businesses for the Championship. In exchange for the sponsorship support we are permitted to wear up to four professionally embroidered sponsorship crests on our "on ice" uniforms at the Championship. We are likely to receive at minimum one televised game on Rogers and Cogeco Television (broadcast province wide) with the opportunity for additional televised games should we contend for the playoffs. In addition, the Semi-Finals and Finals of the Tankard are being televised Nationally on Rogers Sportsnet. I anticipate that there will be a couple of articles written about our team in the Grimsby Lincoln Newspaper and Niagara This Week prior to and during the Championship, and I will ask for a list of our supporting sponsors to be mentioned. Just to give you an idea, the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre is a major junior hockey arena that has a seating capacity in the thousands. The event, set up almost identically to the Brier, expects to draw over 15,000 spectators for the week. The Tankard is heavily covered by the Ontario Media. We are one of the top ranked teams in Canada and currently ranked #46 in the World on the World Curling Tour's Order of Merit. We are seeking support ranging from $500 - $2,000 with the largest sponsor getting priority of placement and cresting size on our uniforms.
