September 30, 2014

Greetings,

As Mayor of the City of Houston, I welcome all attending the annual 102nd Texas Municipal League Conference and Exhibition (TML). TML plays a vital role in advocating for the interests of the 18,000 mayors, council members, city managers, city attorneys and city department heads who are members of TML by virtue of their cities’ participation. This conference provides networking and the opportunity for the exchange of ideas. It is an invaluable experience.

Houston has evolved into a dynamic city, boasting the most diverse population in the nation, a strong economy, affordable housing and sustainable growth in a wide range of industries. Houston has the hottest economy and is the job producing capital of America. We are a city built on dreams that are powered by hard work, guided by common sense and inspired by creativity.

There is so much to see and do here. There’s a vibrant museum district, a downtown theater district that rivals New York’s Broadway, shopping and hundreds of restaurants with any type of food imaginable. I hope you will share in the Houston experience, taking with you lasting impressions of the spirit, vitality and tradition that characterize our city. MAYOR’S LETTER MAYOR’S Best wishes for a rewarding event.

Sincerely,

Annise D. Parker Mayor

The TML exhibition is an essential part of your experience at the TML Annual Conference. It is the place to find vendors who can help streamline your city operations, and make your job easier. The exhibit hall is more than just a place for you to acquire free pens and stick-on fuzzies for your badge.

Time spent in the exhibit hall is time saved later. You will see new products, get fresh ideas, and lessen your workload. Think of the TML exhibit hall like a shopping mall with everything under one roof, where you can browse, shop, and mingle. Take advantage of this great opportunity!

Here are some guidelines for making the most of your time at the exhibition.

Plan Your Time Wisely Don’t try to do it all in one visit. Plan several trips to the exhibit hall – visit during refreshment breaks and lulls in the program. The TML Grand Opening Reception on Wednesday offers an excellent opportunity to meet with exhibitors. Use the Exhibitor Guide to map out your course of action. Ask questions. Ask for a demonstration. Ask for more information. The exhibitors are at the TML Annual Conference to help you and your city.

Visit Current Suppliers The exhibit hall offers you opportunity to discuss pricing, service, and product development to meet your changing needs. While new connections and sales are important to exhibitors, strengthening relationships with established customers is always a top priority.

Visit Your Supplier’s Competitors Want to see how your current supplier stacks up to the competition? The exhibit hall gives you opportunity to visit with companies that provide similar products and services. It’s a great way to assess the value you’re getting from your current business partners. EXHIBITOR GUIDE EXHIBITOR Meet with Potential Suppliers City government is changing rapidly. Your city’s needs are changing, too. Visit companies with services and products you may need in the next few months or year ahead.

Make New Discoveries Find time to make unexpected and pleasant discoveries in the exhibit hall. Plan to visit specific companies, and give yourself time to stroll through the aisles to learn about products and services you hadn’t previously considered. You might discover something to revolutionize your city, or make your job easier. 32 Remember Our exhibitors invest a great deal of time and money to join us at the TML Annual Conference and Exhibition. Please take the time to recognize their commitment, and thank them for participating. A DELEGATE’S GUIDE TO VISITING THE TML EXHIBITION EXHIBITORS AND BOOTH NUMBERS
