From the Principal Dear Parents the Last Two Weeks Have Been Very Busy with a Wide Range of Activities and Experiences Carramar RESPONSIBLE RESPECTFUL I AM A LEARNER SAFE A STAR Email: [email protected] Ph: 08 9405 0600 26th March 2019 Issue 5 Www.carramarps.wa.edu.au From the Principal Dear Parents The last two weeks have been very busy with a wide range of activities and experiences. Congratulations to everyone involved in the preparation and presentations on Harmony Day. It is so important that we gain an understanding and appreciation for different cultures. It was also wonderful to hear how everyone values what our country has to offer. Special thanks to our students, Shan, Sean, Nithya, Riddhi, Oskar and his parents, and our staff, Mrs Dobbs, Mrs Parker, Mrs Carpenter and Mr Greyling for sharing their stories about their cultural heritage. Congratulations also to our choir for their first public performance and beautiful singing. As we move into the final weeks of the term I would like to acknowledge the positive behaviour of the large majority of our students and the way they have worked this term. To parents thank you for supporting your children and the school. As I move around the school and into classrooms there is a very positive feel. There are still some great things for the children to look forward to over the next couple of weeks. Pre-Primary to Year 4 students will have the opportunity to attend the Kamboom Percussion incursion. This is occurring on Monday April 1st. On Wednesday 3rd April Joseph Banks Instrumental students will provide a free performance for our Year 3 to 6 students. I would also like to remind parents of the ANZAC Ceremony that is being held on the last Day, Friday 12 April. The Ceremony will commence at 9am and everyone is invited to attend. Swimming Lessons As mentioned in the last newsletter, lessons will be split this year with Year 1 & 4 students attending Week 3 of Term 2, 13th May until 24th May. The cost is $43.00. You will receive paperwork in the coming days. P&C AGM The AGM was held last night and I would like to congratulate the following parents on their appointment to these important roles. President Amanda Joseph Vice Presidents Heidi Reiger & Jeya Jeybalan Treasurer David Furmark Secretary Stephanie Williamson Fundraising Coordinator Heidi Reiger Committee Members Sue Block, Simone West & Louise Graham School Board Representative David Furmark P & C Easter Raffle The P & C are requesting donations, big and small for this year’s Easter Raffle. Please send all donations to the front office by Wednesday 3rd April. Tickets will go on sale from Friday 5th April for $1 each. The Easter Raffle will be drawn on Friday 12th April. Lou Zeid Principal T20 Blast Cricket Carnival On Thursday 14th March Carramar Primary School students attended a T20 Blast Cricket Carnival run by the WACA. Five teams (4 x Boys and 1 x Girls) represented Carramar with great pride. All students had a fantastic day playing cricket and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. From a Physical Education sense the improvement in skills shown by all students over the carnival was very pleasing. Their behaviour throughout the day was outstanding and they were a real credit to their school. Thank you to the parents who came down to watch, your support was very much appreciated. A very big thank you to Mrs Evans (‘A’ Div Boys) along with Mrs Joseph and Mr Kursar (‘B’ Div Boys) who gave up their time to manage the two teams. At the end of the carnival the results were as follows: ‘A’ Division Boys came 6th with Ashdale PS winners ‘B’ Division Boys came 5th with Madeley PS winners ‘C’ Division Boys came 3rd and 6th with Hocking PS winners Our Girls came 8th in the ‘B’ Division with Hocking PS winners Out and About with Mrs Pearce Walking School Bus This term our Year 1 and 4 students have been learning about pedestrian safety and making good decisions around the roads. Students walked the perimeter of the school and discussions were had about the dangers, safe places to cross and for the Year 4's what the importance of THINK stage, when following our Stop, Look, Listen and Think steps. The highlight for our Year 1's was definitely experiencing what it was like to walk under the road at the underpass! AFL Eagles Football Visit - Flying High at Carramar! On Wednesday 12th March, Jake Waterman, Oscar Allen, Xavier O'Neill, Luke Foley, Brayden Ainsworth and Bailey Williams from the West Coast Eagles visited our school and addressed the students. They shared their insights into what is like to play for the Eagles, what challenges they have faced and what Respect, Responsibility and being a Good Learner looks like for them as a team member of the Eagles. After the whole school assembly, Carramar's Girls AFL team had a training session and learnt some valuable pointers for their upcoming Dockers Cup. To end the day the players visited the Pre Primary and Year 1 students in a number of classroom s so they could ask their questions. To quote one of the Year 5 girls after their training session, “That was truly AWESOME!” Year 6 Passenger Safety - CRASH TEST INVESTIGATORS! This term the Year 6 students are exploring passenger safety. The students have been learning how factors that affect the driver, environment and the vehicle can increase the risks of serious injury when travelling as a passenger. The students tested out what happens when we don't wear a seat belt in a number of different situations and on various road surfaces. Each team designed a vehicle and placed a Ping Pong ball (driver) inside and tested out what happened through various scenarios including collisions! This was all filmed in slow motions on Ipads and students could see in detail what was happening. At the end of the sessions, all students decided that seat belts really do save lives. To support the HASS curriculum, Year 3 students travelled to Yanchep National Park. They spent the day learning about Aboriginal culture and history of the area. Park guide Derek, was amazing on the didgeridoo. Linking in with our Science program, Year 4 students visited Tamala Park to learn how it works. With a focus on recycling, the students developed a better understanding of the amount of waste we create, how we can adopt a more sustainable lifestyle and what we can recycle. REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE Did you know Carramar Primary has it’s own team of amazing recyclers? Mrs Chandler and her Year 3 class collect recycling from around the school weekly. They are also the drop off point for household batteries. Please visit T10 to responsibly dispose of your used batteries. Year 3 students have been exploring line, pattern and colour to create these awesome hands. They looked at different Aboriginal symbols and incorporated some of these in their artwork. We talked about the many different cultures that we have here in Australia and how we can celebrate this diversity by joining hands together in harmony. Year 1 Makayla, Joseph, Owen, Hayden, Maya, Johanna, Jacob, Islam, Riley, Jaxson Year 2 Emily, Samual, Angelica, Ethan, Romy, Ava, Harley, Chloe, Laurenda Year 3 Reuben, Mollie, Abisolom, Tatum, Charley, Stella, Huntar, Logan, Edwin, Bailey Year 4 Alexis, Indie, Jessica, Delsi, Isabella, Blake, Samantha, Anson Year 5 Owen, Indy, Safeena, Kyan, Zoe, Harrison, Liam, Dylan Year 6 Harry, Jake, Calvin, Amber, Brock, Tarana, Brandon, Miami Applications are now open for children born between 1st July 2015 and 30th June 2016.
